try dreamfields.. they are real pasta that you can not digest so or not all can be digested.. love them.. real pasta.. sooooooooooooo much better .. good luck!
i totally agree with you!! i tried them with the hungry girl alfredo recipe and it almost made me barf... that texture is just awful, weirdly almost crunchy, not to mention the smell. however, from everyone else, i think i might give the stir-fry sort of thing a try... maybe once they aren't wet and have heated all the liquids out they will taste ok. i know this is an old video - just wanted to say i commiserate with you!
please give thees noodles another try but with asian flavors. shirataki noodles are not a substitute for italian style pasta dishes, they are disgusting. try a stir fry with chicken breast lots of veggies add soy sauce, ginger and splenda also a little corn starch to thicken. delish, im going to try shirataki pad thai and pad see ew.
what you need to do with these is drain, rinse, and then dry roast them in a pan to get rid of the excess liquid then cook them with your favorite asian sauce/marinade and lots of veggies. if you mix in crunchy textures with the noodles the texture is much less noticeable.
I'm eating shirataki noodles for dinner this moment, and they are delicious. Granted, I do have some culinary skill and don't purchase very many pre-fab pre-packaged foods, so I'm sure that helps. Shirataki is NOT a pasta substitute, it's more like a ramen noodle (think mr. noodle or ichiban) would you put tomato sauce on mr. noodle? Probably not. That would be gross. If you want a pasta substitute for toamto or cream sauces, I suggest roasted spaghetti squash.
I love these things - but they are not good with tomato sauce! They should put a warning on the package! I use them either with an alfredo sauce, or in soups or lo-mein (my favorite application). You may prefer something like Dreamfields pasta.
Thanks for such a cute video! You made me laugh :)
I think these noodles are the same fiber as the glucomannan that Dr. Oz and Dr. Hyman was talking about on TV. I know the Glucomannan pills work for me, as far as losing weight goes. you can find them here...:
youre suppose to dry them after rinsing. its too slimey/slippery kind of texture when you dont dry them after rinsing them. if you do it again try rinsing and drying the noodles a half hour before you do the sauce and then let the sauce moisten the noodles when you join them together.
OMG! I was roflmao around the 6:29 mark. I won't tell other viewers why (its worth watching for yourself) but I really enjoyed your honesty throughout the video but that just sealed it for me. Thanks for video!
a good tip for these noodles is to cook them in a pan with a little bit of garlic and white wine (or other flavorings) to infuse flavor into the noodles before putting in tomato sauce. try adding a dash of flour (a tiny pinch) to allow the sauce to stick to the noodles!!! cook the noodles for longer than you would think, just to make sure you get the flavor you want.
Shirataki is not a good pasta sub (as you know) but it's great (& traditional in Japanese sukiyaki) for Asian stir fries. It seems to me the longer you cook them the less rubberier they get. I get the shirataki without tofu because it's cheaper.
For a pasta substitute, I use fried cabbage. I recommend making lasagne with braised cabbage leaves & thinly fried eggplant. Watch carbs in your pasta sauce, many have a lot of high fructose corn syrup. Use to be a great sugar free sauce.
I personally love these noodles, if you get a good recipe that works with them they can be amazing (I love them in soups and stews than in a spagetti sauce like you did). I love Japanese food so maybe thats why I don't mind the texture so much (it reminds me of thick udon noodles).
You gave a good try and I commend you for it, but if your health is at stake it might be better to stick with these noodles than to give 'em up all together. Just keep trying different recipes.
Hey I'm not sure if you've done more research since this video but I highly recommend not using Shirataki noodles for Italian meals! Asian is the way to go. I use the angel hair shirataki noodles and mix it with veggies and shredded chicken. My favorite sauce is 1 tbsp peanut butter, 1 tbsp rice win vinegar, 1 tbsp Truvia sweetener, 1 tbsp soy sauce. SO good! And letting it sit in the fridge overnight will help the texture of the noodles. Good luck!
haha you are so honest...! i would like to try these noodles because i am addicted to pasta too...generally i am addicted to carbohydrates :( anyway...i will try to find some of these noodles in a local storeand i will tell you my opinion :D hope its not ''yuuukkk'' :P
i know u are already turned off by them but if you pat them dry and somewhat stir fry them in a pan to heat them up, it greatly improves taste and texture. Use only the tofu shirataki and they really only seem to go well with asian stir fry dishes and not real well with Italian. If you dont try them again at least you tried to have an open mind so KUDOS
@PunisherPlaythroughs So it would be just a yam noodle then? I'm guessing I have to go to a specialty store for that? Do you know what they're called?
OMG! One of the best videos i have ever watched! I love this video its sooo funny!! I mean i think its hilarouis. and what topped it off was the cute mickey mouse thing you used to stir the noodles! lol. that sucks you didnt like. good to know. (:
