  • I love how Rossini wrote those octaves leaps and drops for Isabella Colbran, she must have been amazing! The legend says Verdi wrote parts like Abigaille and Lady Macbeth to invite young singers to follow in the steps of Colbran, Pasta and Malibran.

  • And let us consider the fact that Rossini composed several of his best soprano parts for Colbran: Elcia, Anna, Fiorilla, Elena, Desdemona are only some of the most obvious examples :).

  • Desdemona is probably straight soprano in tessitura. Now, Armida is more challenging considering it demands both low and high tessituras.
