Yeah, they seem to have a LOT of parallels. Listen to the into to Tordah (Kalmah) and compare it to the intro to Demons' Blade (3 Inches of Blood). Kalmah seems to have a lot of similarities with a lot of bands. Nevertheless, a very talented band. Even if they did turn a little more mainstream after their third cd.
you mean a lot of bands take influence from Kalmah. Swampsong was released in 2003 and Fire up the Blades was released in 2007. and I wouldn't call them mainstream yet, still only 3 real videos.
I didn't suggest influence in either. I don't think they are popular enough to be considered a huge influence, and when I talked to Justin and Shane (3IOB's guitarists) they said they had never heard of Kalmah. I think it's more likely that both 3IOB and Kalmah were influenced by earlier bands.
I didn't say they were mainstream, just that their sound is turning towards mainstream. For The Revolution is a looot more mainstream than Swampsong/lord or They Will Return
@hepatitis123 Agreed, they're fantastic. Not many people in North America that I know have heard of Kalmah. We don't get many of their cds either, certainly not anything before FTR.
Not going to lie, I'm amazing (and pleased) that you've heard of 3IOB. I guess a little bit of Canadian pride going on haha. Honestly, I have not heard of Andorra, where abouts is it?
Ah, that's cool. I would love to see 3IOB live, although, sans Jamie they might be a little less awesome. I think the coolest three band line-up would be something like Kalmah, 3IOB and Ensiferum, that would be aweeesome
i agree, it did get less awesome without Jamie. Still awesome though. Cam may not be a founding member, but he's still one of the driving forces behind the band. And hell yeah, that would be awesome. The more i think about it, the more i regret not seeing Ensiferum when they came. And to think, I could have been an arms length away from Petri Lindroos.
Yeah! Ensiferum came to Toronto, and I thought to myself "I should pick up a ticket" and then I went "naw, I need to save my money" but I mean... come on.. what a lame excuse.
What do you mean Cam isn't a founding member? He's been around since Sect of the White Worm. Actually.. he's the only original member left haha. I really like how they seem to replace the whole line-up with every single cd. I think Justin and Shane are there to stay. I hope Ash is too, kickass drummer
Well, in that respect, he would be a founding member. But he came in shortly after the band formed, but before they really got out there or released a demo. They only played a show or two without him, i think . :p And yeah, they actually have a killer line-up, minus Jamie
ahhh, I did not know that haha. Wow, that's interesting, because I really think of Cam as like... the iconic member of 3iob. I guess iconic members seem like they just SHOULD be founding members haha. I kind of miss the A&V line-up... best cd ever, in my opinion
lol, I agree with you entirely. Cam is my favourite part of 3iob. And A&V is their greatest work. Although, I love the demo version of Deadly Sinners so much more. They actually played that version last time I saw them, it was amazing!
lol, thats cuz people really love them in Europe. They're over there all the time. But they love Winnipeg too, so they always visit me when they tour Canada. :)
@LitaniTilSatan666 Yep. I noticed they seemed to try to distance themselves from Children of Bodom though, with the vocal change to more of a death metal feel.
Meh, all in opinion. I really like old CoB, and I find one huge advantage CoB has over old Kalmah (which I prefer a great deal over their new stuff) is that Kalmah's cds are organized really poorly, each song sounds independent, and their is little overall cohesiveness to the record as a whole. Also, I find that Kalmah's songs are very similar on each cd, though they have a unique feel to each cd, each song on a cd has few defining characteristics. All opinion.
I first heard of these guys a few years ago. I unfortunately was not into harsh vocals at the time. I fixed that problem a while back and *rediscovered Kalmah a few weeks ago.
lol post the lyrics, they are funny

Really? 3IOB haven't heard of kalmah? Too bad, they should tour together lol. Either way, both bands kick ass! :)

lol, I love 3IOB. I've seen them 5 times. The show always gets better. I was stoked when I saw them with Evile.
But back to Kalmah, I want them to come back to Canada!
Also, Andorra borders Spain and France. :p
