Dungeon Siege III Gameplay Review (XBOX 360 & PS3)

I see a lot of bad reviews for this game. I admit, the first time I played this I didn't see much Dungeon Siege in it and thought it was a shame to the series. However, after putting some time into it, I feel it resembles DS2 more than people think. I think the main reason people are so cynical about the game is because they just didn't sit down and give it an honest try.

Its a shame it gets bad reviews and the consensus is that "it sux" as I would love to see more DLC.

When I saw Gas Powered Games was no longer producing this franchise I was worried, then I picked up the demo and was so bored that I didn't even want to finish it. Huge letdown for being one of my favorite series.

"You build and customize your character as the game goes on", ya thats right. If a sword has more damage than your current one, go for it. If a piece of armour has more than yours, go for it. This game has NOTHING on dungeon siege 1.

looks horrible after considering all the good games that'll be coming out later this year (ex. Gears of War 3, Halo CE anniversery, Skyrim, Dead Island, hopefully MW3 is good, etc.) or the numerous amount of games that have already been released. (Bullet Storm, Dead space 2, Crysis 2, etc.)

just finished it 7 hours at last save; overall 10.30; [with short coop and many deaths at bosses], good graphic, but very simplified compared to dungeon siege 2 or almost any hack and slash [sacred 2, titan quest, torchlight] , kinda reminds me mage knight apocalypse, I did have fun but they cut out too much stuff...

This game is horrible. It was designed for console gaming since the controls and targeting are clunky and the camera is static with almost no control. The user menus, such as inventory and skills / talents require you to stop everything else and open up a new, full screen menu.

And for multiplayer.. .only the host can save their progress. Anybody else who joins is forced to pick one of the 3 remaining classes and they can't save or keep anything they find.

Save your money.

You all are being way to hard on this game - it is actually fun and the co-op is good with a friend.  Of course it is not perfect - and there are some things they could have done better - but it is fun. Sometimes you need to step back from being incredibly critical - and enjoy games for what they are

I've played 2 hours into and would liek to ask; Does the game allow you to freeroam? I know you get side-quests but I thought the game would be abit like Sacred 2 where you can go off and do whatever but can always come back to the main quest when you want to.

@TheXboxNutjob well...depends. after the final battle, no, your screwed. but just before you leave, you CAN explore and do what you want (not much to do but hey, its something). i just like playing as other characters. lucas, reinhart, and katarina are my faves.

@ohterlay Watch our co-op videos and it shows us doing the setup. I am unsure how to do it on the same screen, since I only did online coop with a friend.

Main problems with this game :

WAY too linear.

Combat feels sluggish, like the animations are slower then they should be and it just lacks fluidity.

The game is way too short. Like 12 -15 hours, far too short for a game of this sort.

Online co-op is pointless. You don't use your character, you use a generic character that gets NO LOOT, or EXP to keep back in your own game. The Host gets EXP and LOOT, no one else does.

Play the demo folks, if you don't like it stay away.

I was going to buy this game until I found out about how dumb the co-op is. Cmon,its freaking 2011 and you can't make a decent co-op mode like in Diablo which was released in 1996. What a let down.

I bought on PS3 and thought it was awful. I'm a rpg fan and played most over the years but this has to be the worst. Oblivion, Dragon Age Demons Souls are superior in every way. Disappointing imo.

Looks pretty good! Really like the skill system here, sounds pretty indepth. I remember spending many fun hours on Champions of Norrath and the Dark Alliance games on the PS2 with a buddy. Co-op dungeon crawling is so much more fun :)

Only thing I have a concern about is that the co op is one the main saling points (for me) with the game, even a lot of the marketing is focused on this, and the concern I have is that the drop in/out player is unable to save their progression. How does this work? If my kids or a mate plays for 3 hours and then we quit, and come back to play the next day will only the host keep the items found or will all players keep their things? I also heard that online hosting is effected the same manner?

@DarkChrisHour Basically, the host has the save file. He loads the save up, the other players rejoin the game and continue where they left off.

Only thing now is if playing online does this mean that when others play they are playing the other characters on my file, so what if I don't like the builds they made, or I want to play them myself in replays from scratch, but still keep my other characters which I already played to end?
