Before you go screwing with a store's merchandise, you might want to check out the laws concerning "concealment" in your area. Concealment only requires that you hide the object from plain sight. Whether you make it out of the store or even have any plans to remove the merchandise from the store makes no difference. If the store wants to press the issue, they can have you arrested for concealment and it carries the same punishment as theft. My guess is that most stores would push the issue.
