Why would Mcsorley play with an illegal stick...the guy averaged 5 goals a season
@Jeeshgod2 don't have to be a douche. We have a good team this year, maybe not be Stanley Cup contender but we're by far not terrible, we have a Vezina quality goaltender. I'm going to laugh in all the faces of people that hate on the Kings and see how many band wagoners we get when we win that cup we've waited so long for. so on behalf of all the Kings fans SUCK OUR DICKS.
my very first and all time favorite hockey memory within my lifetime (born in 1989) i always wonder what i would have done if i had never witnessed this magic or if patrick roy had played for another team at this point in time... ive been able to recount it since the age of four "and now a twenty-fourth stanley cup banner will hang from the rafters of the famous forum in montreal THE CANADIENS WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!!" have it somewhere still on VHS.
@Vinnie7683 1993 Habs were not great team & never would have won Cup if Pens had not lost Game 7 shocker to Isles in 2nd round. That year 6 of 8 teams with home ice advantage lost in 1st round and 2 that advanced lost in next round. That said, Habs were solid squad on both sides of ice while LA was one of worst defensive teams ever to reach Cup Final. Weak defense always gets exposed at some point in playoffs (well, except 1991 & 1992 Pens but they had 8 future HOFs, 1993 Kings only had 4).
"And now a 24th stanley cup banner will hang from the rafters of the famous forum in montreal, the canadiens win the stanley cup!" One of Bob Cole's Greatest Calls and that's coming from a leafs fan
How ironic that Garry Bettman joined the NHL in 1993. That was the last Stanley Cup won in Canada. If he joined in 1992 Montreal would've never won the cup. Hockey is Canada's game it was proven in 2010 and almost in 2011 for a Canadian team.
i dont care who wins it i am a big habs fan but if they are out im going for any canadin team there is but not toronto well kinda them to because i just want a canadian team to win. I rember 2 years ago when i got to get a picture with the cup and i looked on it and most of the names where montreal so all habs fans make sure that this year our teams name will be on that cup one more time!
@OldCarsAreBest Why not, they were the only team to outplay Boston, the eventual winner of the Cup, pushing them to OT and essentially 1 goal IN Boston, while every other team didnt have a chance against the bruins.
@ThrowingBman Agree even the Canucks really didn't play that well against the Bruins. they were lucky it came down to the seventh and final game because they barely squeaked by in their wins in Vancouver.
I will say I think the Lightning deserve a little more credit. they gave Boston all they could handle and more.
Canucks and Habs are Canada's best teams even though the canucks lost this year they still have a strong team for next season. The Habs will probably go to the Final next year.
@openedup09 despite my loyalty to the habs i must admit you're right, they battled harder for it. The bruins became stronger after beating the habs, it was their toughest opposition this year.
@L00Kingsharp 5 times since 1993,a Canadian team appeared in the Stanley Cup Finals and nobody could have guessed that these 1993 Habs would be the last team to bring Lord Stanley north of the border.
Perhaps the Pittsburgh Penguins were expected by everybody to win their 3rd straight Stanley Cups in 1993,but they got too caught up in believing their own hype and that cockiness cost them the series agsinst the New York Islanders, who had no business even winning their first round series against Washington.
@landrykkb That's why it is so tough to win three straight - in any sport much less going for the Cup. In a sport like hockey you can't for one second begin to believe your own hype.
Note also that most of the Stanley Cup winners don't have the best regular season records. It means something in the Cup playoffs to actually be the underdog.
@VancouverChokers A lot of people have obviously forgotten that Montreal finished in 3rd place with 102 points in a highly competitive Adams Division,so it wasn't as if it was a total shock they won the Stanley Cup like announcers and prognosticators suggested that it was.Obviously,Pittsburgh,Boston,Detroit,Vancouver, and Chicago were all heavily favoured.but only 2 of those teams even got past the first round. Now in 1986,I'd be more inclined to call that one a surprise Cup win.
@landrykkb Agree, the Quebec series really did a lot for Montreal's confidence, just as beating Calgary did for Vancouver the next year and beating Vancouver did for Calgary in 2004 (probably the two best teams from Canada to play for the Cup since Montreal won it all in 93)
@landrykkb But still a very talented, good team who got an early two game lead and pushed the Habs to the brink. Canadiens caught lightning in a bottle starting in game 3 of that series unfortunately for the Nords.
@VancouverChokers of course, that experience along with a first round loss to the NY Rangers proved to be beneficial as they would win the Stanley Cup as the Colorado Avalanche just 3 years later.
can someone help me and tell me the name of that song that starts at :35. as a kid I remember this song always played at the forum and it sounds like the organ is used at the end? what is it? the used to use the song on NHL 94 for sega when playing with Montreal?
Going to elementary school in Southern Ontario as a Habs fan was tough. I'm lucky I didn't get the snot beaten out of me the day after this happened, especially with how much I was rubbing it in all day! I still can't help but think how much better it would have been if Toronto had beaten LA to be in the finals (and lose to Montreal of course)
To everyone posting about the top rated comment, this was the 100th anniversary of the stanley cup: 1893 - 1993 which existed pre-nhl. the habs won an amazing 24 championships in 100 years of its existence. they are the greatest franchise in the history of the NHL and the winning tradition will live on forever.
ima diehard sharks fan here but montreal deserves 2 be being the best team in the league,if the sharks get lose in the playoffs and montreal still standing i'll root 4 them!but if it's sharks vs.montreal..well that's problem -_-'
@Barnakos i was 11 as well, and remember this like it was yesterday...everytime the habs would score a goal my friend who was also a big habs fan would call my house screaming his lungs out!....lol....GO HABS GO forever my fellow hab fan :)
Well said mosmorg4n. I live in Montreal and I am a Canadiens fan -- but I am rational enough to say that there is a difference between what was then and what is now. I love the Canadiens franchise for their history -- they're in my heart. But in the present, I don't like some players and most importantly I REALLY don't like the organization. @leafyutube I fully agree with you. I am a Montreal fan that was living in Toronto in 1993, and that would have been a series for the ages. Wayne cried like a baby after the final game, on national television, and I lost all respect for him.
I remember that Gretzky interview. He looked like a bitter sore loser. I think he sort of lost his way after he was traded to L.A. He wasn't like that in his Edmonton days. He was shy and humble, and no hot dogging after scoring goals..
this shivaguy doesn't know a single thing about hockey....ridiculous...lol...there's no point in trying to understand his ''point''...fans arroguant in mtl??..what about those in toronto that r worst but have no facts to back up their arrogance...if it wasn't from the habs fan their would be 4000 people in long island and so many other arenas...c'mon now stop taking credit from the habs this is sooo ridiculous
1,2,3,4 CANA-DA deserves more MONEYYYY - I'M NOT YOUR BUDDY , FRIEND - HE's not your FRIEND , GUY .... I'm not your GUY , BUDDY - HE's not your BUDDY FRIEND ... I'm not your FRIEND - GUY - don't you see we have to stand together or else we have nothing........ WATCH ABOOT FLYERS / HABS
@ragytagful I don't have anything against The Canadiens in particular although their fans can be arrogant at times. What I do have a problem with is the Eastern Conference, Eastern Conference=JOKE ! Look at East vs. West record. WEST IS BEST ! You're getting a free ride HABS Fans, if you get to the Finals the Sharks will eat you alive or The Hawks will light you up like a Christmas tree.
I dont really understand your post. The Eastern Conference is the home to the winner of the President's trophy for top team in the regular season, the Washington Capitals. It is also home to the defending Stanley Cup champion Penguins, who defeated the Red Wings (a Western conference team). The Habs had to go through both of those teams just to make it to the semis and you call that a "free ride"??? Interesting
@SeanMTL1 Pittsburgh was a shell of their former Stanley Cup selves. They got picked apart like many teams in today's cap era once they won the Cup. Gill, Scuderi, Whitney and Sydor all gone from their once formidable defence corps. Washington is a highly talented, prima dona team, in weak division hence the ability to rack up easy points and President's trophy.Stats back me up, the last 15 years West has 8 cups/East has 5 cups, the East has had to win in Game 7 in all but one of those victories.
@shivakrishnarama I am actually not even sure what the point is of playing the playoffs or the entire season for that matter. May as well just give the Cup to Chicago at this time. Why waste everyone's time
@shivakrishnarama Ah I see. So I guess whichever team makes it out of the East had a free pass, now I get it. So I guess whomever wins the Cup in the West got a free pass as well, especially SJ, who had to face Colorado whose players are not even old enough to legally drink in the US, and the Red Wings, a team that is a shell of their former selves losing the likes of Hossa and Samuelsson. The Hawks had to defeat Nashville, big deal and Nucks who havent gotten to the third round in 16 years.
Looking back at the '93 playoffs, the two things that come to mind are Patrick Roy was awesome and the Islanders really had no business beating the Penguins that year. It made no sense, but that's why they play the games.
Wow nimporte quoi l'embiance pareil. si le canadien remporterais la coupe d'ici les prochaines années si sa arrive sque je crois même pas dans 20 ans sti de club a chier de calis ! siboire sa serait la folie !!
@MTCanucksFan samething thing happened in 1993 from what my dad told me is that they had a hard time to get to the playoffs..no one thought they would have making it...and once in the playoffs they won almost every game to go to the stanley cup final
Guess Who Montreal had to play in 1993 in the first round of the play offs??? The Capitals. New york also did not make it that year to the play offs, and no one thought the Canadians would go all the way to Lord Stanley's Cup.
Players back then played for love, not cash. Players back then and even before then played because they wanted to win the Stanley Cup more than anything else in their lives. Today players are pathetic and play for cash.
coulda had a couple more if Tremblay didn't fuck with Roy

Why do the league owners keep Bettman?!? He's terrible for hockey . He must have some good dope on these guys.
Get Bettman out!

ragytagful 1 year ago
@ragytagful I don't have anything against The Canadiens in particular although their fans can be arrogant at times. What I do have a problem with is the Eastern Conference, Eastern Conference=JOKE ! Look at East vs. West record. WEST IS BEST ! You're getting a free ride HABS Fans, if you get to the Finals the Sharks will eat you alive or The Hawks will light you up like a Christmas tree.
shivakrishnarama 1 year ago
@shivakrishnarama
Interesting
SeanMTL1 1 year ago
@SeanMTL1 Pittsburgh was a shell of their former Stanley Cup selves. They got picked apart like many teams in today's cap era once they won the Cup. Gill, Scuderi, Whitney and Sydor all gone from their once formidable defence corps. Washington is a highly talented, prima dona team, in weak division hence the ability to rack up easy points and President's trophy.Stats back me up, the last 15 years West has 8 cups/East has 5 cups, the East has had to win in Game 7 in all but one of those victories.
shivakrishnarama 1 year ago
@shivakrishnarama I am actually not even sure what the point is of playing the playoffs or the entire season for that matter. May as well just give the Cup to Chicago at this time. Why waste everyone's time
SeanMTL1 1 year ago
@SeanMTL1 One more thing. Team Canada, the best Team in the ENTIRE WORLD was composed of players 90% of whom were from the WEST.
shivakrishnarama 1 year ago

@MTCanucksFan samething thing happened in 1993 from what my dad told me is that they had a hard time to get to the playoffs..no one thought they would have making it...and once in the playoffs they won almost every game to go to the stanley cup final
chixxgirl2 1 year ago
Guess Who Montreal had to play in 1993 in the first round of the play offs??? The Capitals. New york also did not make it that year to the play offs, and no one thought the Canadians would go all the way to Lord Stanley's Cup.
sesostres1 1 year ago
@sesostres1 They played the Nordiques in the first round
habsruleleafsdrule 1 year ago
@sesostres1 Montreal NEVER played the Capitals in the playoffs. Let alone in1993. This year is the first.

Players back then played for love, not cash. Players back then and even before then played because they wanted to win the Stanley Cup more than anything else in their lives. Today players are pathetic and play for cash.
