The actors are really great but I feel like the director just missed the whole plot -_- I dont mind that they aren't 12 :P Surely they can work around the age easily but im really just annoyed that they didn't introduce a few key characters just in case they have a possibility of a sequel. Anyone who didnt read the book would say that this is a great movie. Yeah it is but people who READ the book... well if im disappointed im sure others are too. I hope they can redo the movie...

In my opinion it's a question about target audiences... I don't say that 12 year old kids don't like PJ anymore. But I think to hit the right group, the HAD to make the actors a little older.
If Annabeth was so smart, how come Percy's the one who always figure things out in the movie. Annabeth only says the useful information only when it's not needed anymore.

I dyed my hair blonde one time,and my hair was about the same color as Alexandra's,but I dyed it back to my original color,and in pictures I looked terrible with blonde hair. I checked the "imdb" and they claim that the next installment "has been announced" BUT not that they have started filming and it appears that Brandon T. Jackson won't be in it (no Grover). Thought they do have a "Thalia" character listed.

My only complaint is that ultimately the film did not do as well as hoped and there appears to be no follow up to the "Lightning Thief" in the forseeable future. Plus, if by any chance "the powers that be" at Disney actually go forward with a new film they'll probably have to re-cast a great many of the parts!!
@angelzr They are making the 2nd movie. They said that Alexandra and the other two, (the ones that played Percy and Grover), are coming back. It's suppose to start shooting this summer. The video is on clevvermovies page. it's called 'Percy Jackson Getting A Sequel'.
@CreativeVariety -You would think that by this point the "original" actors would be too old to play the leads. Too much time has past between the 1st one and this possible sequel; though, it would be nice to see Ms. Daddario play Annabeth again!!
@angelzr I agree with you, about Daddario playing Annabeth. As for the actors being to old, it doesn't really matter, since they don't really follow the books. In the 1st movie, they had Percy driving, when in the book, he's only 12. I just hope that in the second movie, they have the scene with Percy, Annabeth and Tyson, (assuming they bother putting him in), in the taxi with the 3 hags with the one eye. That's all i'm asking for in that movie.
@CreativeVariety -I have to agree, that the story line takes a great many liberties and that most film adaptations differ to some degree from their source material. Plus, if done just right that particular scene in the taxi ride would be a barrel of laughes!! So, up next should be "The Sea Of Monsters".
@angelzr I think it will be The Sea of Monsters. it's suppose to be a different director, too. Hopfully they learned from the 1st movie, and follow the book more. I still can't believe they left out Ares and especialy Kronos.
@CreativeVariety -They replaced Chris Columbus? Well, hate to see him go but then again he also left Harry Potter right after the sequel. May who ever takes the reigns from Mr. Columbus, have a lot of fun making it but also include a little more of what is in the book.
@CreativeVariety - Well, I guess that depends on what "take" of Sea of Monters the director and writers of the film choose to shoot. Remember "they" ultimately give the film it's shape and form. They already left out Kronos and Clarisse.
@angelzr Apparently "they" are leaving out Tyson. It's too bad that they never followed the books. If they did, the books could've been as popular as the Harry Potter books, and I never would of had a hard time finding the boxed set.
@CreativeVariety -Well, with only two more movies, and four more books to draw ideas from they will probably will need to restructure the whole storyline to fit "their" idea of how Percy will evolve in this series of films.

@CreativeVariety -I agree, Rick Riordan needed to flex some creative "muscle" in the 1st flix, now I'm hoping he does do some "parental" control on his baby and have them include some elements from the source material to give "The Sea Of Monsters" a real shot at satisfying his core audience as well giving his fledgeling franchise an opportunity at succeeding on film.
@angelzr I hope he does, but i don't think he will. There's an interview on here with him, and he said that he let's them do the movie, and he writes the books. I just hope that they put the taxi scene in there. I'll be really disapointed if they don't. If they wanted to, these movies could be one the best franchises out there.
@CreativeVariety - I would agree with you that this series of films if done right could be very unique and fun "franchise". As for your "taxi" fixation, I would also love to see "them" bring that to "reel" life.
@CreativeVariety - Actually I was hoping to see the various greek gods in the 1st film, but all we got was kind of like small "snapshot" of them. But to be honest I was thrilled to see Annabeth's mom being played by an actual "Greek" Melina Karakeredes (did I just misspelled her name?) from CSI: NY. Plus, Hades was a hoot!! The visual effects in the film were a bit of a let down BUT it was still a lot of fun to watch.
@angelzr its Kanakaredes, but you were close. you're right. hades was awesome. i hope he's in the 2nd movie, (just so i can have a good laugh), even though he's not in the book. Hopefully they have more gods in the second one. (including Ares).

@Mego768 -So, the guy playing Percy only signed 3 movie deal? And there are 5 books. So, that means the "producers" will probably try to squeaze elements from all 5 books into two more sequels? It's expected, though, that the sequel will draw from other Percy Jackson titles as well as "Sea of Monsters." Well, I did like the firt one (but I didn't really love it) so, I'm hoping this possible follow up will do better storytelling.
@angelzr I don't think they will add Kronos cause then in the last one if Kronos comes back to life, it will be hard to squeeze all that in an hour. Then the movie will be TOO differnet. And Kronos can't come back in the third one! It will just mess everything up.

@jordanthewizard I know,but some people don't look very good with a different hair color. I dyed my hair blonde one time,and my hair was about the same color as Alexandra's,but I dyed it back to my original color,and in pictures I looked terrible with blonde hair. That's probably why she didn't. But her acting was amazing,and her eyes were striking,just like Annabeth's.

@jordanthewizard Honestly,I don't think Dakota could've pulled off Annabeth's personality like Alexandra did. Sure she had blonde hair,but I think the personality and the chemistry between the cast mattered more. But they're both opinions.

I checked the "imdb" and they claim that the next installment "has been announced" BUT not that they have started filming and it appears that Brandon T. Jackson won't be in it (no Grover). Thought they do have a "Thalia" character listed.

its really sad what people are saying about her because shes not blonde. yes, in the books she was blonde, and that WAS one of her most mentioned features, blah blah. but, alexanda did an AMAZING job as Annabeth. She tried out for the role, and she got it. if you hate her so much as annabeth, then gosh, dont watch the stinking movie, its not her fault she was born a brunette.

My only complaint is that ultimately the film did not do as well as hoped and there appears to be no follow up to the "Lightning Thief" in the forseeable future. Plus, if by any chance "the powers that be" at Disney actually go forward with a new film they'll probably have to re-cast a great many of the parts!!

@angelzr They are making the 2nd movie. They said that Alexandra and the other two, (the ones that played Percy and Grover), are coming back. It's suppose to start shooting this summer. The video is on clevvermovies page. it's called 'Percy Jackson Getting A Sequel'.

@angelzr I agree with you, about Daddario playing Annabeth. As for the actors being to old, it doesn't really matter, since they don't really follow the books. In the 1st movie, they had Percy driving, when in the book, he's only 12. I just hope that in the second movie, they have the scene with Percy, Annabeth and Tyson, (assuming they bother putting him in), in the taxi with the 3 hags with the one eye. That's all i'm asking for in that movie.

@CreativeVariety -I have to agree, that the story line takes a great many liberties and that most film adaptations differ to some degree from their source material. Plus, if done just right that particular scene in the taxi ride would be a barrel of laughes!! So, up next should be "The Sea Of Monsters".

@CreativeVariety - Well, I guess that depends on what "take" of Sea of Monters the director and writers of the film choose to shoot. Remember "they" ultimately give the film it's shape and form. They already left out Kronos and Clarisse.

@CreativeVariety -I agree, Rick Riordan needed to flex some creative "muscle" in the 1st flix, now I'm hoping he does do some "parental" control on his baby and have them include some elements from the source material to give "The Sea Of Monsters" a real shot at satisfying his core audience as well giving his fledgeling franchise an opportunity at succeeding on film.

@angelzr I hope he does, but i don't think he will. There's an interview on here with him, and he said that he let's them do the movie, and he writes the books. I just hope that they put the taxi scene in there. I'll be really disapointed if they don't. If they wanted to, these movies could be one the best franchises out there.

@CreativeVariety - Actually I was hoping to see the various greek gods in the 1st film, but all we got was kind of like small "snapshot" of them. But to be honest I was thrilled to see Annabeth's mom being played by an actual "Greek" Melina Karakeredes (did I just misspelled her name?) from CSI: NY. Plus, Hades was a hoot!! The visual effects in the film were a bit of a let down BUT it was still a lot of fun to watch.

@CreativeVariety -That is a good point, it's one thing that they say they are going to make a follow-up, it's totally different than they actually start filming the movie itself. The whole cast gets together with some few new additions and the whole things starts rolling. Then I will get excited too.

@Mego768 -So, the guy playing Percy only signed 3 movie deal? And there are 5 books. So, that means the "producers" will probably try to squeaze elements from all 5 books into two more sequels? It's expected, though, that the sequel will draw from other Percy Jackson titles as well as "Sea of Monsters." Well, I did like the firt one (but I didn't really love it) so, I'm hoping this possible follow up will do better storytelling.

@angelzr I don't think they will add Kronos cause then in the last one if Kronos comes back to life, it will be hard to squeeze all that in an hour. Then the movie will be TOO differnet. And Kronos can't come back in the third one! It will just mess everything up.
And yeah, at least that's what I heard. That's too bad though, I really wanted to see The Last Olympian.

@Mego768 No Tyson? He's a big part of the 2nd book. Logan and the others could sign on to the rest of the movies. if they want, they can make the movies over 2hrs. It'll be weird, if they make Luke be the one behind it all in the movies.

For me, the taxie scene was one of the funniest chapters i ever read in a book. it would really suck if they leave that out. As for the titan's curse, i hope Artemis and Zoe are in there too. And don't forget about Atlas, and Nico. Too bad they didn't put Ares in the 1st one.

@Mego768 If nico w is going to be 18, i think they may cut out the mythomagic. The toilet scene would have been great to see in the 1st movie. I would've kept Percy's father a secret until the water helped him, like in the book. even with an older cast, they still could've stuck to the books. I still like the movie though.
