  • they should of kept these doing services only stopping at Doncaster, Leeds, York, Newcastle, Edingburgh, even Glasgow & Aberdeen.....

  • we should make a petition to get the class 373s back to there rightful home on the ecml.

  • the ECML is the RIGHTFUL home of the north of london 373s. not slaving away on SNCF services. bring them back right now!

  • Are GNER White Rose trains still in service?

  • @macaniza7 No - the contract/lease for GNER to use Eurostars finished December 2005. National Express East Coast subsequently took over from GNER. NEEC then had the franchise taken off them by the Rail Regulator with a temporary company formed called East Coast Trains to run the east coast service. ECT still run trains to Leeds and York of course but am not aware of a 'White Rose' service as such like there used to be in the much missed Eurostar days

  • @NapierNimbus: Wow! I didn't actually know that.. Many thanks for the information.. Appreciate it!=)

  • thank you mate

  • were all these filmed on 3rd april 2004

  • @Cazkumali no they were filmed on different days in April and May of 2004

  • amazing video! I've been looking for footage like this! Wish i was taking videos when these were about on ecml! 5* and fav'd

  • @itfcsam just seen the departure amazing tones! For early footage, thats mint!

  • @itfcsam thanks for the comments mate - there is another clip of the eurostars on my youtube site called 24 to 31 July 04 GNER Eurostars

  • Its a shame that the eurostars in the UK operating on the ECML have gone to France. Why did they go back to France anyway?

  • Class 91's Are Good But The 373's Were Better

  • I used to love these and commute on them... but now theyre gone :(

  • Those 373's in GNER livery must be the best looking trains to run in the UK - if not anywhere in the world.

  • I know this is the same stuff, but GNER handed them back because they didnt work on 'local services'. So what about continuous express running to Edinburgh and Glasgow calling only at York, Newcastle, and Edinburgh? We should NEVER have lost these, but now theyre on the poxy French Lines, despite being OUR north of london sets.

  • @465fan I agree strongly

  • seems like a step backwards getting rid of these when they are still running the class 91s

  • Some nice shots there! 5*s I miss the White Rose 373s alot, used to travel on them regulary to York & Leeds, very popular with GNER and its customers aswell!

  • Thanks mate - I have put some more 373 E* up on my youtube site - see the clip "24 to 31 July 04 GNER Eurostars and more"

  • Where did they go to?????

  • GNER operated the sets on the Kings Cross to Leeds run - I understand they are now back in France on the TGV services

  • did the GNER one's go to france

  • Yes they did.

  • Do these trains still run or not?

  • GNER Eurostar sets finished on the ECML in Dec 05 - a sad day indeed - the sets in question I understand are now operating TGV France. You can of course still see Eurostars on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link

  • Excellent Video, Excellent Places, Excellent Sounds, Excellent Trains

    Well Done

  • Thanks very much

  • I have to say, the 373 shape is unique! The carriages are so box like. I love it! And their pantos can go very high!

  • those gner ones are actually called the white roses

  • what happened to these units when GNER went down the tubes?

  • Believe they are now operating in northern France on TGV workings

  • Nice! 5*

  • Thanks

  • Many Happy memories of Lolham

  • great video, i love these trains.

  • Thanks for the comment. I've put together a dvd of all of my GNER eurostar footage for a mate of mine who used to drive them. If interested in getting a copy then send me a message.

  • Great video! The eurostar looked great in GNER colours. Just a shame that someone decided to put grafitti on that last one.

  • Thanks

  • So did they actually lease them from Eurostar?

  • Yes they did the lease ending December 2005

  • why are the panto's so high up?

  • the wires are raised on approach and over level crossings to give enough safety clearance for high lorries and buses to prevent the high voltages from jumping/arcing on to the vehicles

  • alright thanks

  • why did GNER get rid of their eurostars

  • The lease ended Dec 05 - perhaps finances dictated not renewing it or GNER felt did not need them? Also the 373s were restricted to 110mph as against the 91s and HSTs 125mph. On a quiet evening you could hear them approaching way off.

  • why were the eurostars limited when there supposed to be the fastest out of the lot of them

  • Sorry my comment is mis-leading - there were stretches where they could run at 125 but there were significant stretches where they were restricted to 110 due to issues with the way the pantographs reacted with the overheads. As I understand the 373 pantos were designed to work with catenary designed to handle extremely fast moving trains and the pantos had a higher pressure contact on the wire

  • look at the sparks from the pantograhs on the first eurostar

  • you shut up !"34567*9)-= cheer up you love...l

  • lol you made a mistake!!! that was the eurostar livery not GNER

  • You've lost me - not all of the 373 eurostar sets operated by GNER were painted into the GNER livery

  • my mistake

  • Wow I love the sound they make as they go by at high speed!! It sounds like a series of superbikes rushing by. Shame they're not around here anymore, but at least they can run as they were intended on high-speed 1 now.

  • This was taken during one of my birthdays, 4th April!

  • Fantastic filming - 5 stars

  • that train is bloody fantastic

i mean that sound as it starts up

u can get that from a car =)

  • youre right i love eurostars so much and on the ecml they are perfect

  • thought would let you know have put together dvd of all my eurostar footage for a mate of mine that used to drive them. if interested in getting a copy send me a message.

  • They are hellfire fan sounds coming off that Eurostar!

  • that sound is worthy of emu bashing lol

  • i love the flap that goes in and out the train as you see at petobourgh

  • 5* five star =] =]

  • It's amazing how much changes in four years! I remember seeing the Eurostars at various locations along the southern ECML. I liked them! Now both the Eurostar sets and GNER are gone!!! I have a good mind to march straight to the Transport Minister's office and demand all of the old stuff back on track! (And don't you shake your head at me!!!)

Still, you've done good videos!!! 5/5!

  • You are absolutely right i think these could be the pride of our electric fleet on high speed and it beats the pants of the pendolinos - i think they could run very fast to glasgow and challenge the wcml - but you have the right idea there we need to have them back

  • Excellent vid there. Superb quality.

  • Another great video Mr Nimbus
