This movie originated from an all time classic book, which many people just so happen to think highly of. @elementalwiz The entire movie was basically sad. Because during the entire thing all Max was trying to do was to be noticed and to be a kid, but no matter where he goes he is yelled at and said he was out of control when really he was trying to be a kid. Maybe I'm wrong about all of this, but this is how I interpreted the movie. This movie is very much like live art that has many different ways to view it. I interpreted it this way because this reminds me of my childhood... minus the monsters

@elementalwiz It was still sad on the island. Everyone was relying on him to keep out the saddness and makes sure they are always happy. He's only a kid and they are expecting him to have the maturety of a King or adult figure, or they'll eat him. Well that's a lot of pressure for an adult let alone a child that is still trying to HAVE a childhood.

I did something like max had done. My mum and dad were getting angry at each other and i could see it turning my way so i ran to the bottom of my garden and painted a sun rise with my imaginary friends sat with me with sloppy mud. When i returned back to the house, i sat with my parents and all was happy... never saw that picture again

I think the point of the movie was he was overreacting and feeling left out, when really Carl was the same person and it made him realize how much he affected others who were also going through hard times. The biting his mother really was just trying to prove a point, and this movie deserved an oscar.
