Scary Monsters is debatable but i think it captures Bowie at his BEST. Insanity, enthusiasm, a sort of self realization and just a maniacal sound to it. I believe Scary Monsters is VERY underatted and may be his best of work.
I don't think it is very underrated as it is generally considered to be one of his best albums. It has been my favourite rock album since I first heard it at 15. It really blew my mind.
This is so true. he connects with people. I have only seen him 5 times over the last four decades, but I can't explain the experiences I had- suffice it to say the times I belly to stage we communicated, he communicated to the fans in a very personal way, he knew what we felt, which was not adoration or worship, but joy in the realization of how sublime and fun this all was, how surreal, how in the moment!
Dang, 3 pounds a night is crazy! I wish so very very very very very badly that I was born in time to have been to all of his performances. I love David he is so cool.
Thanks for posting, very interesting to see any footage of Bowie during this period, although Janet Street Porter's questions have to rank as some of the most stupid and utterly pointless i've ever heard.
i was there 1978 in London Earls Court on that evening at the age of 17....funny to see that interview here now

How tall is David Bowie? I know JSP is quite tall, but I was just wondering. I thought he was like 5'10" but now I'm not so sure.

I was just about to ask about his height....from my knowledge.. 5'10...over the years...you do lose height but...is this woman 6'2"? o_0

This is fab-there is so little in the way of interviews with DB around this time-he seems very relaxed and willing to chat.

One of my greatest regrets was not seeing him in 78-79-- Lodger is my fave album.

I always thought he was so skinny from all the coke, but, yeah, sweating like crazy for two hours every night. And he isn't a big guy to begin with.
