I'm not much of a Cars fan, but every time that song would come on the radio I just absolutely loved that solo - an awesome, blazing little jewel by Easton that comes out of nowhere and just rocks. Tasty stuff.

In otherwords, your saying it's a pretty straight forward hard rock guitar solo, for a dance-pop song? Agreed, The Cars werent actually a pop band fully though, they were just very diverse and usually had pop songwriting mixed with a major hard rock instrumentation and a Art rock layout, only The Beatles could challenge their diversity, which happens to be their influence.
I think it's cool that you acknowledge all these great solos. I've championing them for years as being little songs in their own right. This one is a prime example.
My favorite Car is Greg Hawkes.
