  • No it wouldn't change a thing, as sometimes the sack comes off in the womb/birth canel and stays in and we have to get the mum injected so she passes it and then she doesn't have it. We have also taken them away as she musn't eat too many, especially if a large litter and they're fine!

  • What would happen if you took the bag and sac away? Would she get angry? Would it interfere with her mothering or bonding with the pups in any way? Her milk? I`m considering purchasing a show quality Newf pup who may be deemed worthy of breeding at some point, and I`m just trying to gather all of the information and knowledge before making such a big decision. Thanks :)

  • Oh, and yes, I can and would ask my breeder, but it came up now, so I figured I`d ask :)

  • I had a newfy named nelson, he passed away about 10 years ago but I still think about him. I have 2 small dogs now a schnauzer and a shelti/terrier mix but I have enough room in my heart for all 3.

  • Most amazing video I've seen on YouTube. Thanks for sharing such a special moment. Mother is so placid and beautiful.

  • @MikeInCork

Thank you Mike, that's very kind of you to say :)

  • can i just ask, i have a newfy and she is dew to give birth in a week or so, it is her first litter can i ask will she do all her self or will she need a hand, will mother instint happen. i have also noticed you help your dog alot and take the puppys away a little to clean them and cut the cord. i have been told by my vet to leave her unless she becomes distraeed and also she will cut the cord her self. can you assist me as to what ill need. she has her bed and is as they say nesting,

  • @mandimoos

Hi....Vet's always say to leave them but if you do you could lose a few, depends on the bitch, some know what to do and others don't...This bitch has had 3 litters & her first one she didn't have a clue & wouldn't clean up after them after they were born...on her 2nd litter she had a go at chewing the cord but got a carried away & the pup tore, so we help & she is happy..you know your relationship with your dog & you will have to watch the pups 24/7 in case mum lays on them..

  • Let's face it. The "Miracle of Life," is pretty gross...

  • THanks for this video. It's a miracle that never ceases to amaze and delight me.

  • Beautiful! "Congratulations" we wish them all a very happy and healthy life.

  • Just thought i would update you that at 5am the next morning from when i commented on this video, she had her first puppy and by 2 O'Clock she had 9!

  • Oh wow, congratulations, hope it all went smoothly and that mum & babies are doing ok..sending hugs and of course Drool..haha!

  • puppies are one week old. they are quite big. we have 2 lanseers and the rest are fully black. they are all ok and alice is too. thank you for all your advice. x

  • right well, shes doing everything you listed there! has been doing so for a good 6 hours now.Hahaha. Well i do look forward to the next few hours!

  • would you mind telling me what the first signs of her being in labour were? We think our newfie girl is in labour (i am georgiacass' sister).

  • That's a tough one cos we have had a few litters now and even with the same bitch the signs have been different every time. Refusing to come out of one of the huge holes they've dug is a very common one, frantically digging, Temo drop, shaking, acting out of character, like doing something they wouldn't usually, being very clingy and this is to name but a few....georgiacass' sister???

  • my newfie girl called Alice is 4 weeks gone today :). I cant wait.

  • Why do they eat the sack?

  • Cos the naturally want to tidy up and clean up after themselves, it also brings on more contractions and helps with their milk supply, also it is full of nutrients that mum needs cos it's hard work giving birth to lots of pups..X

  • wow really? Amazing how instincts tell them to do certain things eh?

  • WOW, amazing vidoe, the miracle of life begins.

  • You ruined it with the darn music. Listening to the video would be appreciated.

  • The movie is just the high lights of 2 births that took over 3hrs, so had to be to music or you'd have heard lots of half sentences. Why U had to be nasty in your comment is beyond me. Saying I RUINED it with the DAM music is just plain rude, as for what you appreciate.I'd appreciated not having to read your nasty words. I didn't make it for you..I make movies for my Newfie friends on Facebook & they loved it. I only put them on You Tube and link then to FB cos they play better on here...!!!!

  • I see you like my Newfie Xmas one..bet it wouldn't be in your favorites had I left in all the car and crowds of people noise..there is no pleasing some people!!! start making ya own movies, you have NO IDEA!!!!

  • That was lovely to watch. Ignore the 1st comment, they obviously had nothing better to do than to spread some negativity onto something as joyful as your video. When i move to a bigger house we're gonna get a newfie... cant wait.

  • You shouldn't interfere so much. Let nature take it's course. The mom can break the cord. The mom can clean the pup. Stop crowding the mom and the pup. Nature doesn't need self-important humans. Stop holding her legs. Put your scissors and cloth away and give her some space to be a mother. Just back off and let nature be. Trust me, the mother can do this without you.
