  • "It shouldn't be a problem at all but then- oh shit, it was all a ruse!"

    That was hilarious!

  • Fu*king classic. Watched all 4.

  • it would be awsome to see a phantasy star 3 review

  • it's underrated in america because most americans are stupid and have dumb ass tastes in pathetic topics like football and bad music..

  • @BWEEBLAST football kicks fucking ass

but i agree with you about the bad music

what i would give to have grown up in the 60s and 70s...

  • may the light shine upon thee aqualung

  • Just sayin... Edrick did have a shield.... and your walkthrough skips it!!!!!

  • @P1ST0NH0NDa erdrick did not have a shield

  • its cool but i cant help notice how bad u rip off AVGN ahh i can just smell the thumbs down on this comment

  • @FlameFoxBoy nah, no thumbs down since you're obviously beggin' for it. But it would be interesting to see you defend your post by explaining how this has anything to do with AVGN. But alas, I'm sure you won't reply since there really is no way you can defend that very baseless comment. ; )

  • @FlameFoxBoy How? James never does walkthroughs of games really, he just shows them off and nitpicks .

  • Thank you for putting this up. This was the first video game I ever beat. Brings back lots of memories. I remember walking back to the castle with the princess in my arms, wondering if I put her down during fights on the way back to the king.

  • The only video game I played with my Dad- my first and his last. I was 4. : }. (he didn't die then or anything, just the last one he ever played) noo, warlocks!!

  • What happens in the game if you beat the Dragonlord without first rescuing the princess?

  • @MacNDocTKO They just skip part where Gwaelin comes out and asks you to be her companion.

  • @AqualungGameReviews hey Ken, that's interesting. Excellent job man on the review/walkthrough. Just beat this game tonight on level 21.....had enough HP's fortunately...maybe should have brought some herbs to the battle but got through it.

  • @AqualungGameReviews

I had always wondered about that myself actually.

  • @MacNDocTKO I always thought it was fun to save the princess on the way home after beating the Dragonlord. The king doesn't even acknowledge her while she's in your arms!

  • Great review. This was the first RPG of its kind that I ever played. I remember I rented it because the title "Dragon Warrior" sounded cool. At first I hated it and wished I had rented something else. (Only because I didn't understand it.) But once I figured out how the game worked, I was addicted and ended up buying it.

When Final Fantasy I came out, I bought it. (I still love that game. I play the updated DoS version on the GBA-SP still to do this day.)

But DW got me hooked on the RPG genre.

  • what about the 'will thou art marry me?' ending don't forget that..... some hero ending :D

  • I remember as a kid when I finally beat this game.....I was level 30, because I for some reason had a very hard time figuring out how to even get to the dragonlord's castle in the first place, and spent months just wandering around killing enemies. The game was still awesome, though.

  • "A Chuck Norris draws near!"

    Game Over :(

  • Wish Aqualung would do dragon warrior 2

  • then let me guess...you move on to dragon warrior 2 right?

*sigh* screw buying the game im just gonna download everything now.

  • you did this game justice mate, well done.

  • awesome game WOOT!

  • Character designer is Akira Toriyama? Hey, isn't that the guy who made Dr. Slump and Dragonball series?

  • I remember wondering what to do with my life after I beat this game. I eventually decided to go outside and swing on a swing and boast to myself about my victory.

  • 240p?

  • Is there no limit to how many levels you can rise up, or is 30 the maximum?

  • @petercharleskrug 30 is maximum

  • man this brought back memories.

  • But thou must!

  • I like the way this guy reviews games, he's not boring at all.. actually makes me laugh..

  • Thanks for the real specific breakdown in all 4 parts. This was a great game. One of my proudest video game days when I beat it finally. This brings me back to just times in general when life was more fun...high school. I still consider this the first true RPG. Ultima Exodus and Final Fantasy were a little bit later down the road.

  • Crazy stock-up bitch!

  • Meh I never was able to get that last sword. But you can beat the game without it.

  • Awesome review, *cry* brings back so many memories. Got a chuckle or two as well.Kudos to you bro. Thanks much for bringing back a piece of my childhood. Take care

  • "You can see the Dragonlord sitting in his throne on the other side of the wall...Fucker."

    XD

  • Got this game for free for renewing a subscription to Nintendo Power.

  • OMFG me too. I still have the poster!

  • "...then she offers her body to you, I mean, her companionship." roflmao! Great walkthrough. Well done!

  • THANK YOU!

  • classic game.. well done. shit cracked me up sometimes

  • I remember playing this game at like age five and getting to the first green dragon and never being able to take him down. Good memories. I may have to find an emulator and play just for old time's sake.

Great review. A couple of those hidden things I probably would not have found out.

  • RED DRAGON!!!

  • You Brought Back So Many Awesome Memories Of Playing This Game, Thank You

  • Ah... my first RPG. I remember the music even though I haven't played this game in twenty years.

This was a great review, by the way.

  • Hey, I hope you review Final Fantasy the same way you did Dragon Warrior!

  • My friend Patrick let me borrow the Gameboy color version with an improved DW 1 and DW 2 all on one cart. In the time I had it I beat both games. Definitely one of my favorite series in the RPG genre.

  • love this game i still wish to play part 2 3 and 4

  • I like this game. It was more of a starting point than anything. It has led to an excellent series and multiple subseries, all of which improve upon Dragon Warrior.

If you haven't played Dragon Warrior Monsters for the GBC, I suggest you do so. It makes a lot of references to Dragon Warrior.

  • I like the grinding. It's a challenge to beat it. unlike the piss they pass off as games today, which have no challenge and play out like fucking lame ass movies.

  • nice job the only bad thing about this game to me is that most of the game is just battles

  • Well thats the case for most RPGs but I agree this game does go overboard with the grindng

  • yeah i definitely spent the longest time playing this game. awesome review!

  • I bought this the other day at a little game/pwn shop

it's pretty good, and compared to most games of the NES era it was extremely good, however i've gotten to level 7 and finding it really just too repetitive..

not putting it down, because it wasn't bad, but I do wish it had just a little more variety. The one thing I really liked was the Middle Ages English that they threw in there.

Good Game, but I guess it's just not for me. Also, good review.

  • go get a life yourself you asshole instead of insulting people with lives

  • It's amazing how much this game owes to the Ultima games which came before it. Swamps that damage, items requiring a search command, a demolished-looking town overrun by enemies, secrets hidden along the edge of a town, etc. The positions of the starting castle and town, along the shore, are ripped right out of Ultima with startling indifference.

  • Id like to see some more early RPG Review/Walkthrough

  • i guess u beat this game like 3 times

    amaizing job here

we need a reamake of this kind of classics

  • there waas on game boy color

  • yes ther was xd i own it and number 3 on gbc and nes versions

  • This game seems so fun, but i played it on an emu once and I simply don't have the patience to play this long text games. But they are fun if uthey only were a bit less same thing all through the game... :)

  • Mga Thanks for The Walkthrough xD

Dragon Warrior 1 FTW and the Final Battle was SO COOL !!! Thanks aging =D

  • Nicely done.I havent played nor seen this game sence I was young.I got this game free with a subscribtion to Nintendo power

  • Dragon quest 8 rocks :P

    Good walkthrough XD

  • yup, truly underrated, dragon warrior and final fantasy are the most epic rpg of all time.

    nice review

  • in the credits it says the characters were designed by akira toriyama, same name as the manga artist XD

  • Actually it IS the Manga artist.

If you look at the Dragon Quest art...well, I'll leave that to your reaction.

  • Thou hast done well.

Thy next game should beeth Tetris

  • Well, I never beaten this game when I was young with my first console, but what do I say? Well, I am still attacking enemies, but how come it takes so long to level up? Maybe the developers messed up? And why name it Dragon Warrior? Can't we name it Dragon Quest? We should all blame on Enix since they created some stupid trademark.

  • Still, great game review, I am still training, I got Edrick's sword when I was level 16.... Still, if I could get to level 17, I should attack the dragonlord, and when it shows "Its true self" then I'll really kick his ass by attack, then healmore and I repeat... Else, when im lv 19, ill go 2 the dragonlord, hurtmore, then same process attacking the dragon.....

  • hey desngs by akira toriyama just noticed that but he made dragon ball z + anyone notice that the main character of the dragon warrior monsters game for ds looks a bit like trunks (from dbz and dbgt) and i think GT just sucked!

  • nice.

  • Well, beating the dragonlord at level 30 is a cakewalk.

  • no, quik, your wrong, when nintendo released this game, the manual had a mini players guide in the back which it said the average lvl you should be to take on DL was 20... so stfu, great review btw.

  • lol you wasted time getting to lvl 30?

all the time you wasted.... could have learned some basic manners for replying to online videos.

and like aqua said, beating the DL @ lvl 30 is easy.

  • The only Dragon Quest/ Warrior game I have us 8 for PS2, I want to try the other ones though, hopefully this one will be released for Virtual Console, Id buy it.

  • Thy game art for the VC.

  • Huh? In the North American VC? I havent seen it, or do you mean its comfirmed to eventually appear in the VC?

  • yay

  • Although the graphics have aged, the game is still fun as hell. Great review and walkthrough!

  • You're one of the best reviewers, keep going man!

  • By the way, Dragon Quest III is my favorite for Nintendo, it also have great songs, I remember the flying dragon on the map screen, that song was really nice.

  • Thanks for the review, you are awesome. Looks like a nice rpg, I'm gonna try it out right away!

  • u r the best ;)

  • The intro sound and ending music is way too loud, I have the volume turned up to hear your voice, but then the video ends and the ending music blasts through. Still better than those other reviewers though.

  • only need 2 be lvl22 to ebat the damn thing!?!.....

  • The first RPG I ever played.

  • Yeah, 26...I practically have one foot in the grave.

  • ahahaha

  • @Xenomovies ya me too .... i'm not lieing i played this game but never get to the dragonlord

  • I consider this to be the first traditional console rpg ever made. Even though they didn't intend to do it, Enix invented a video game genre when they made this game. And yes, to say something cliche, this game invented the genre which Final Fantasy 7 is in. You really discussed this game in a highly respectful manner. But Dragon Warrior = Pitfall. Final Fantasy 1 = Super Mario Bros. DW created the genre, but FF1 wrote the playbook and is the most influential tradional console rpg ever.

  • A long review for apparently a very worthy RPG. Now that's epic. I didn't quite know what to expect this time around, especially as I knew this to be a popular RPG but didn't actually know anything about it, but as always, absolutely NO failure here. Just the right amount of informativeness and humor, methinks. Especially since some of those old guys deserved it. Ha. You definitely get a Gold Star, Aqualung!

  • 01:54-01:55, what word did you just use there? lol that flipped me more than the dragon.

great job on the review. ive alwaysbeen interested in dragon quest since i finished the ps2 rpg. thanks for posting!

  • He said "ruse" but pronounced it "roose" instead of "rooze". I hear that all the time.

  • 01:54-01:55, what word did you just use there? lol that flipped me more than the dragon.
