There are a few players that can jump before the defenders and land after them. This was the think that made Galis a hero. Plus you can't compare European basket and American. The first one is about teamwork and mistakes and the other is about physique. That's why USA can't dominate the Fiba world cup and Olympics. They struggle in European, or fiba style of basket.
Ο Διαμαντίδης ο καλύτερος Έλληνας της σημερινής γενιάς και ένας πολύ καλός παίχτης. Ο Γκάλης ο καλύτερος Έλληνας αθλητής της σύγχρονης Ελλάδας με τεράστια διαφορά από τον δεύτερο. Εκτός το προφανές, ότι ήταν ο καλύτερος μπασκετμπολίστας που έβγαλε η Ελλάδα ήταν και αθλητής με όλη την έννοια της λέξης. Αλητείες ποτέ δεν έκανε, δεν έδινε σε κανέναν δικαιώματα και ο άνθρωπος ενώ θα έπρεπε να έχει περάσει στο πάνθεον ούτε θέση σε υπουργεία πήρε ούτε σε εθνικές ούτε μαιντανός σε εκπομπές..
Οτας εισαι παιχταρας , ολοι οι αλλοι (αντuπαλοι και συμπαιχτες ) ειναι τα πουτανακια σου. ΔΕ λεω καλη και η ομαδιοτητα αλλα ειναι αλλο πραγμα διαολε να εχεισ τα @@ να πηγαινεις μονος vs every1.

you are right in that point. No body cant compare this to warriors of the court with todays players, Drazen and Galis were class apart but i have to include the leading scorer of all times with more than 48,000 poinys in his career including euroleague, that was Oscar Smith from brazil. Oscar have great battle in the court with Drazen and Galis in the euroleague and international competition, they were killers in the court.
Yes he was one of the best ofensive player of all tmie. Do you know what player is the all time leading scorer in europe and all the world with more than 48,000 points in his career? This player score 30 points per game in Italian league in his last season and he was 44 years old? If you can answer that question you will know why was one of the best but not the best.
yes he was an artist shooting the ball all the times. Remember that a player who can score 40 points in a game dosent meen that he is the best player, thas why i shoose Drazen Petrovic over Gallis because Petrovic could score 40 points in a game but al so he could make 9 to 10 asist and steal 2 or 3 balls, grab 6 to 8 rebounds in a game and he always trust he's teammates. Gallis was a strong shooting guard very athletic who can always can score 30 to 40 points a game.

By the way i like Nikos Galis i saw him played in person but i like more Petrovic because he was a more complete in fundamental of the game and court vision.
I know that point. Petrovic was bigger he have that avantege. But there is something that Galis have that much better than Petrovic besides his spectacular ofense and is his athletic hability Galis was 1.85m but he was very strong and he could leap very high. Do you see how high he jumps to make a jump shot? Galis could go up three feets in the air to make a three point shot.. Petrovic was a great ofensive players but he knew better the fundamentals of the game than Galis. Galis more HEART.
Υeah...but like I told u b4...I think Petro was a better 3point shooter...but other than that, I think that Galis was better at going to the basket cuz he was more athletic...he was quicker and could jump higher than Petro...me personally I like Galis better...besides Petro wasn't my favorite Croatian player...it was Kukoc...man the guy was so complete...could play all 5 positions on offense...too bad he wasnt that good on defense...but I think he tried at least...
@flight23magic32 remember that Petrovic was in almost a dream team and he could trust more in his teamates. I think Kukoc was more complete player than anybody in Europe, 6'11" with that control of the game, he was like an european Magic Johnson. He wasnt so good in defense maby because he wasnt to much athletic like Galis. But Kukoc could give a lot of problem to any team because he was to versatile, he can shot a three, he could drive to the basket and he could pass.
Yeah everything u say is true but Galis was not a good defensive player. The guy who guard the other team's best offensive perimeter player was Yannakis on Aris and on the national team. Same thing goes for Fanis Christodoulou on the national team.Christodoulou was also a great player who played at the 3 spot but could do it all.And he played great defense too...

he was only a great scorer and one of the best shooter of european basketball but not the greatest player. If you see his tipe of game is not the tipical european style player. European players like Petrovic, Kukoc, Antonelo Rivas from Italy, Marcelounis they played the game trusting there teamates using the half court game looking for the extra pass to make easy shots, Gallis was a shotgun he always wanted to shoot the ball without passing the ball to his teamates. Only a good shooter, thats it
i know he was a great scorer and player but i ask you this question. Did you realy think that Gallis was more complete than Petrovic? Search and compare stadistics and then answer me. Search history of both legends to and compare. But there is somthing that i am shoore is that todays euro players are nothing like Galis and Petrovic, Sabonis or the great Oscars Smith this guys were HEROS AND MAGICIANS in the court and for there countrys.

But Spain will repeat as world champions they have the tools to do it. Greece is goin to be fighting and USA if they come with there complete team. Damn, that little guy could really get off the ground and hang a bit on many of these plays...shame Boston didn't hold onto this guy the first time around. Would've been interesting how his game would've progressed playing with what was arguably the best frontcourt in the history of the game in Bird-McHale-Parish. One can still dream, eh? Greece should be so blessed to have birthed a player of his stature...

you are right in that point. No body cant compare this to warriors of the court with todays players, Drazen and Galis were class apart but i have to include the leading scorer of all times with more than 48,000 poinys in his career including euroleague, that was Oscar Smith from brazil. Oscar have great battle in the court with Drazen and Galis in the euroleague and international competition, they were killers in the court.

Yes he was one of the best ofensive player of all tmie. Do you know what player is the all time leading scorer in europe and all the world with more than 48,000 points in his career? This player score 30 points per game in Italian league in his last season and he was 44 years old? If you can answer that question you will know why was one of the best but not the best.

yes he was an artist shooting the ball all the times. Remember that a player who can score 40 points in a game dosent meen that he is the best player, thas why i shoose Drazen Petrovic over Gallis because Petrovic could score 40 points in a game but al so he could make 9 to 10 asist and steal 2 or 3 balls, grab 6 to 8 rebounds in a game and he always trust he's teammates. Gallis was a strong shooting guard very athletic who can always can score 30 to 40 points a game.

I know that point. Petrovic was bigger he have that avantege. But there is something that Galis have that much better than Petrovic besides his spectacular ofense and is his athletic hability Galis was 1.85m but he was very strong and he could leap very high. Do you see how high he jumps to make a jump shot? Galis could go up three feets in the air to make a three point shot.. Petrovic was a great ofensive players but he knew better the fundamentals of the game than Galis. Galis more HEART.

Υeah...but like I told u b4...I think Petro was a better 3point shooter...but other than that, I think that Galis was better at going to the basket cuz he was more athletic...he was quicker and could jump higher than Petro...me personally I like Galis better...besides Petro wasn't my favorite Croatian player...it was Kukoc...man the guy was so complete...could play all 5 positions on offense...too bad he wasnt that good on defense...but I think he tried at least...

@flight23magic32 remember that Petrovic was in almost a dream team and he could trust more in his teamates. I think Kukoc was more complete player than anybody in Europe, 6'11" with that control of the game, he was like an european Magic Johnson. He wasnt so good in defense maby because he wasnt to much athletic like Galis. But Kukoc could give a lot of problem to any team because he was to versatile, he can shot a three, he could drive to the basket and he could pass.

Yeah everything u say is true but Galis was not a good defensive player. The guy who guard the other team's best offensive perimeter player was Yannakis on Aris and on the national team. Same thing goes for Fanis Christodoulou on the national team.Christodoulou was also a great player who played at the 3 spot but could do it all.And he played great defense too...

he was only a great scorer and one of the best shooter of european basketball but not the greatest player. If you see his tipe of game is not the tipical european style player. European players like Petrovic, Kukoc, Antonelo Rivas from Italy, Marcelounis they played the game trusting there teamates using the half court game looking for the extra pass to make easy shots, Gallis was a shotgun he always wanted to shoot the ball without passing the ball to his teamates. Search history of both legends to and compare. ο διαμαντιδης εχει προσφερει και προσφερει στον παναθηναικο και στην εθνικη παρα πολλά.ο γκαλης προσφερε στον αρη και στην εθνική παρα πολλά.η διαφορα ομως ειναι οτι ο γκαλης προσεφερε επισης πολλα και στο ελληνικο μπασκετ και στον ελληνικο αθλητισμο γενικοτερα.

To all the guys that insist on comparing Galis and his contemporaries with Nowitzki, Gasol and so on:
Get some perspective guys! The players of the 80's were the ones that changed the course of European basketball and inspired the future generations of European players, including the stars of today.
At least give them the respect they deserve, even if you like the current players better.

κοψιμο. Απ οπου σουταρες η μπαλα κατεληγε στο καλαθι. Τις μισες φορες εβαζες καλαθι, επαιρνες κ φαουλ. Οταν οι αλλοι σηκωνονταν για 2η φορα για να σε κοψουν επειδη την 1η δεν τα καταφεραν, εσυ ησουν ακομα στον αερα...

Πρεπει καποιος να εχει τεραστιο κομπλεξ, ψυχολογικα προβληματα ή να ειναι παντελως αχρηστος απο μπασκετ για να υποτιμησει την αξια του Γκαλη.
Θα εβγαζε ποτε κανεις αχρηστο τον Ζινταν ή τον Καζαντζιδη;; Απιστευτο κομπλεξ.
