The issue of marijuana use in America should be a 10th Amendment issue, which focuses responsibility and ownership of rights to the people themselves. I have ate jimson seeds before, interesting trip for sure but landed myself in the hospital and almost died because my body couldn't regulate my temperature properly. I think it has to do with knowing that the harder drugs, like crack cocaine, are made with shit like drain cleaner and antifreeze and that just knowing this makes you not want to try them in the first place. I'm very sure others can agree with that statement.

That would still make it illegal to sell and grow it. So there would still be unregulated sales occurring. In other words people would still be killing other people to have greater profits.

@bjapan96 harder drugs. I've been smoking weed for about 3 to 3 and 1/2 years and have yet to move onto drugs that will actually kill a man. Marijuana is clearly a safer option.
I think it has to do with knowing that the harder drugs, like crack cocaine, are made with shit like drain cleaner and antifreeze and that just knowing this makes you not want to try them in the first place. I'm very sure others can agree with that statement.

@bjapan96 The gateway theory was rejected a while ago; maybe you just weren't caught up on it. Scientists performing studies on marijuana smokers confirmed that it did not cause them to go to harder drugs, but that the ones that chose to did so on their own sober, free will. It is no more addicting than caffeine, but it has the potential to become a bad habit if used irresponsibly (without moderation).
It was also said that within the first year or two of smoking marijuana, you would move on
