ldzp68: You say Wolfie's no Michael Anthony? Q: How good do you think Michael Anthony was @ 16 yrs old & was he playing in front of 20,000+ people @ that age? A: NOPE. :)
dude im sayin hes no michael anthony BUT HES GETTIN THERE nd the main reason im sayin tht is because he doesnt have the voice tht mike had nd i never said wolfie was bad hes infact really good
Yea I totally agree with you about that. I've been a huge Van Halen fan for a long time now and I'm just thankful that i got to see them in concert, even without Michael. I saw them on opening night and if I had the money I would see them again when they come to Raleigh this month, but sadly I am broke.
If you have ever actually watched or heard Michael Anthony play, he is a fantastic bassist who played riffs harder than anything I saw or heard Wolfgang play at this concert. Not to mention Michael's awesome high pitched back up vocals and his great stage presence. Give Wolf 20 years and maybe he will be able to compete with Michael, but he is nowhere close now. This concert was great, but it still wasn't the original Van Halen.
To all the complainers about DLR and how stiff he looks. Well age does take its toll especially for people like Dave that played sports and performed martial arts for years. The joints get stiff and arthritis sets in. Ask any 50+ athlete, the hips and knees go first.
The only reason it sounds bad is because it was filmed with a digital camera. There is too much bass for the little mic on the camera to take. Im sure it sounds great live I mean come on do you think a band thats putting on a production like this is going to let their sound come across as this kind of quality. No.
I have noticed a pattern on YouTube, the only people slamming the tour are the people too cheap to buy a ticket. Everyone who goes feels they got their moneys worth.
Are you serious..... This is the biggest insult to true VH followers everywhere.Simply, when I was younger, the true VH influence was real and the music was about the music, not money. A huge element in the VH creation and success is 1/4 due to MR. Michael Anthony. I'm a playing musician and I will tell you, Wolfie, come on. Bad singer, basic bass player. Not worth $180 bones. No Michael, No Sammy in this, come on...Enjoy your money VH. Good times are about gone. Real VH fans know...
well even if wolf is a basic bass player, why would it matter. its not like there coming up with new songs. hes just playing them as they were played before. and as far as back up singing goes, i saw them at the hp and thought they did one hell of a job
Yes, you are right. The REAL Van Halen fans know...they are at this tour, thanking god they have been blessed with seeing Eddie and Dave together again. Mike can enjoy his bar tour with Sammy in Mexico, the rest of us will rock with this incredible show.
Just got an e-mail from Live Nation and VH has extended their tour...yippeeeeee...check out either Live Nation or Ticketmaster for new dates in '08 in FL, GA, TX, etc...
Are you one of those guys that would let Dave do your wife?Open your eyes and above everything else get your hearing checked! He's terrible! It's okay! It's your money!
Can anyone hear David Lee Roth? The man cannot sing.Eddie and Alex are getting their tour fix(big money)at your expense. Please be advised that Van Halen, regardless of their tour lineup could care less about what people think about the band as long as it churns out a profit! It's a business ladies and gentlemen!Just like the circus.I love live music!I do not want nor expect the performers to play their songs to perfection note for note.David Lee Roth is not even trying.Shit sprinkled with sugar!
Looks like an awesome show. They played with fire at the beginning of the tour. Some of the recent shows haven't been so hot. Awesome seats! I have the same seats for Sac, but on Wolf's side.
It's way cool to see David back in the band , but leaving out Michael was not cool , but hey thats rock n roll for you these guys are on some different ego trip then most of us , why can't this be love ? Rock on Van Halen , you old farts !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Van Halen is still a favorite band but the true test will be hearing new music they make together. Dave did this tour for the money...... period. Not for the love of what VH was. Eddie and Alex had no other choice than to bring him back. Sammy was not coming back, Michael Anthony was not coming back. They had tried with another singer...and we see how that did. For those of us that have been along for the ride from the beginning....its just lacking something.
Yes, the new music may be scary as diamond daves last stuff on his own was not great. Also, he needs to back off on whatever he is taking,, prosac or whatever to kill the stiff, strange in appearance, dave and bring back the wild child we once new. Sammy coming back"? Oh hell no, he should drive well over 55 in the opposite direction. They were cool up to 5150 then sammy stepped in and here came the sappy love songs. Lacking NO,
Ive heard very high quality recordings from the SC show and the Cleveland show; all the negative comments peppering this thread of 2007 VH shows are utter nonsense.
The only gripe I have about this whole thing is that Eddie couldn't see past his differences with Michael Anthony to make this a TRUE reunion
That being said, this is the most VH DNA of any VH band lineup to date, and I have MY ticket to see them in MSG in NYC crossing my fingers that M.A. will be in the lineup.
damn man i was at that show and it was so much better than these videos can ever make it look even with the shitty seats i had it was still amazing.... van halen is the best band
OMG what happened to Diamond Dave and the boys. Look at this song from Toronto. Dave does EXACTLY the same thing with the hat prop. Eddie is awsome as usual but songs so much like the record, on these songs..except for have MA as a back up singer to round out the sound. Anyway for those of us that were lucky enough to see their first tours ( I saw the first 4) this is really kinda sad.
I wondered the same thing about diamond dave!!!? What the f...k is he on? If you ever got to see him in the heyday he moved constantly and was not so stiff,,although, I can stand the lion tamer outfits and unusual if not questionable mannerisms to the old unreliable, big mouth, piss of the band, dave from the past. Back then, he hardly sang any one song the whole way thru, so,,Hey what the f..k as long as he does as great a job as he did here, he may eventually losen up.
quite patetic...what it was will never be again...what are they looking for? money? a job for Eddie´s son?? A truth musician goes on making new things, when someone repeates himself it´s just for the money...it smells death, hahaha
You halfwit!!! The ability to play the songs like they were recorded with Many,Many,Many years away from each other, not even to mention the fact that Eddie is fighting cancer, and m-anthony is not there,,,what are you expecting to hear...Van Hagar,, that peird of their career was embarrassing,, Hard kick ass rock to.. where has love gone,,,yuk
Review continued from below...songs played were strict album versions with no improvization or stretching of songs...Wolfgang seems out of place, with Roth interacting with him on stage just once...Wolfgang is not a very good bass player, his talent and looks more like Valerie Bertinelli than Eddie Van Halen...Wolfgang is imitation playing on many songs to a pre-recorded bass track. This is especially evident on "Jump".
I'm a bit dumbfounded by what people are expecting as far as the stage "show"! ...I thought the concert had a great energy, great sound and it was the VH we know and love...the abscence of MH is hardly felt.
Show if you are heading to the concert to see the VH you saw in their videos 20 yrs ago, stay home...that's not what you're gonna get. Instead you get 3 original band members, more mature, sober and gorwn up...playing the classics and for me it didn't get any better than that!!!!
I could not have said it better myself. Diamond dave may have some unusual stage mannerisms,, but today he sounds better than back then,,, he often didnt sing half the songs all the way thru. just hope he and eddie play nice this time!!
Saw the show at the ACC this past Sunday Oct/7th on the floor 15 rows from the stage. Here is the good news...the sound system and sound mix was excellent despite some negative past reviews. People generally enjoyed the show and hearing the songs. Now the bad news...no energy to the stage performances (especially Roth) just like in this video...average light show (only occasional green laser light)...Eddie and son Wolfie kissed on the stage...review to be continued.
Glad I caught the Friday show in Toronto cause apparently the one you saw must have sucked somehow. This concert ranks right up there with seeing Pink Floyd (minus the amazing "light show" which is apparently so important). I guess if you really want "stage energy", whatever that means to you, stick to Justin Timberlake concerts. I'm sure he runs all over the stage to get your juices flowing.
Hey bk, I was at the show (again) last night too. Had nothing else planned so I picked up a street ticket for some entertainment. I'd give the show a 6.5/10 rating. There was barely any bass in the sound mix, the guitar sound was overwhelming, and there was pre-recorded keyboards on songs like "Jump". Thank goodness Eddie and son Wolfie didn't kiss on stage this time. This is sub-standard Van Halen. Listening to "The Best of Both Worlds" CD in my car this week has been a better turn on.
If Monday's show was so awful, then why did you bother going on Friday? Think there would be some miraculous tranformation to make it more to your liking? You sound like the "frustrated musician" type who finds fault in everything. Insert retard voice here..."Well I thought that Eddie was a bit off tempo during the last part of Little Guitars" Face it, you'd find something wrong with Jesus playing "Eruption". "I though that his sandals really detracted from his stage presence"
This show absolutely ROCKED!! Just saw them in CT and itt was way way way better than I expected. They just ripped through song after song of the REAL VH!!!! Awesome show!!!!
I liked there was no DLR clowning around, no MA soloing in a cape and bottle of jack. Wolfgang changed the dynamic, evident in Eddie's snarling level of focus - in some old concert vids he looks bored on stage. Reunions can suck, and true my expectations were low, but good or bad it added up to a highly electrifying and positive experience. And btw, about DLR - had he jumped over the drumkit he would've snapped off both his legs. He got around fine. Best show I've been to in a long time.
Eddie Van Halen must be in violation of child labour laws by bringing his sixteen year old son Wolfgang on tour. Wolfgang should really be at school in grade 11 receiving his education with all the other kids instead of on the road. The kid is going to grow up unable to spell or do his math. Eddie Van Halen is an IRRESPONSIBLE FATHER!
Edward Van Halen has so much cash, the kid probably has a tutor on the road with them, Looks like Eddie put down the bottle and the cigarettes & it shows..
Dude, your so full of 2 cent opinions! First, it's how adolescent Wolfie's voice sounds when it's not his voice you're hearing to begin with and now you're baggin' on Eddie being an irresponsible father. You should try getting a job with the National Enquirer because you seem to have all of the answers!
Out of curiosity and 1980s nostalgia, I'll go see Van Halen on Oct 7th or 12th at the ACC. I'm very disappointed "Oh Pretty Woman" is not on the set list though, and I love the Sammy Hagar era stuff. After this tour, Eddie Van Halen should finally grow up and patch up his relationships with his former bandmates to create a truly almighty Van Halen....Roth (vocals), Eddie (lead guitar), Hagar (vocals and second guitar), Anthony (bass), Alex (drums). That would a shit kick'n band!
FUCK VAN HAGAR! I just ran into Sammy Hagar the other day and I wanted to be like, you fuckin ruined music for me go drink some more fuckin cabo wabo!
Is that really you Sammy Hagar? You sure sound like him. You seem to have alot of time between your shows. Sit down old man, have a hair cut, and see what the REAL VH are all about. Oh! have you said sorry to Mikey from fuckin up his VH family?
Wolf's mom wouldn't let him go on tour without a tutor. At least thats what I've heard. I think she came along to make sure he wasnt drinking or anything.
I have to laugh....I read some of you commenting about Wolfgang's bad harmony after 2:40 in the song. Hey...if you pay close attention, that is NOT Wolfie's voice. That is that of someone sitting in the audience, near the camera man, singing aloud. The camera mic picked it up, but that is NOT coming from the band's sound system. You all have been fooled!
Not much excitement here folks....old fans will be disappointed to see that Roth is not jumping around the stage like he did in the 1980s. And Wolfgang's background vocals sound so adolescent from 2:40-2:60 in this video. Reviews say the concert sound is distorted and muffled, and Wolfgang doesn't yet have the strength and agility in his hands to be a good bass player. His hands kind of flop around the bass guitar without much co-ordination.
And you expected perfection? Why does everybody have to be so critical? The boys are in their 50's and Wolfie is just 16 yo. Just enjoy the fact that the MIGHTY VAN HALEN is back and have fun with it for pete sake! By the way, the adolescent vocals you hear are either that of the person taking this video or another fan nearby enjoying the concert.
sir optimistic>? Does the crowd sound disappointed? What reviews? Wolfies got plenty of talent, the band is tighter than they ever were with Mike. Mike was always all over the place live. The only thing that Real VH fans will miss is the Bathroom/cigarette break when mike attempted a bass solo
I was skeptical... Now I'm a true believer in this...the TRUE Van Halen, 2007! Cabo Waborita Other Half Bwahahahaha! This band ROCKS! Wolf is only going to get better!
Have no idea, but think it is atrocious that NC is the furthest South they are going...Texans are also missing out!! Trust me I would much rather travel to Tampa than too NJ for another show...but...that being said...we will head to NJ for 11/3 show!!! Dude, beg, borrow or steal but get to one of these shows...
They are adding dates everyday. They Sold out Madison square Garden in under 5 minutes. They originally were only doing 25 shows, now theyre up tp 40.. probably testing the water to see how it goes. This will grow into a complete us tour..
k so 2 different responses here, did somone see him play the frankinstrat at either show? Im going to see them twice here in Toronto on the Oct 7th and 12th and I MUST see him play the frankentstrat!! I need that visual.
I understand what you mean about seeing him play that guitar. The original is a huge piece of guitar history,it priceless. Floyd Rose put the first of his locking, free floating tremelos on it. Not bad for "a warped body" he never knew the actual maker of. Hes got that locked away.. You'll see a Charvel clone
I would imagine that the Frankenstrat is retired for nothing but recording. Ed wasn't using the frankenstrat...in Charlotte. But iregardless...thsi show was crazy...as everyone else is stating if you have the opportunity to catch them, to catch them again...DO IT!!!!! This is well worth the gas, plane fare, hotel, ticket prices and beer money...JUST DO IT!!!!
My husband and I are kickin' oursleves int eh ass taht we did not head from Charlotte to Greensboro to catch them again last night...BIG..mistake! We are still in awe over this show it was beyond words...I hope they add some Atlanta or Florida dates 'cause we will be there...
Thanks for posting this! We saw them in Greensboro last night. It was worth the money! Whoever said hold the camera steady, good luck with that, this place was jumping!
Watch Eddie and Wolfie kiss at the end. That's a proud daddy there. No wonder Eddie's back with a vengeance. This band really is Van Halen now. I love it.
I know your dancing and pinching yourselfs that it's really happening, but can you hold the camera a bit steady, I'm getting sea sick watching this!!It's awesome historic footage!! Not asking for to much, but keep sending more, the whole concert if you can!!
Dave, Eddie, Alex & Wolfie are VAN HALEN! THEY ARE SOOOO BACK!!! Sammy Hagar could never do these songs live with Van Halen... VAN HALEN ARE READY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD ONCE AGAIN! THE REAL VAN HALEN WE'VE COME TO KNOW & LOVE ARE BACK!!!
whats the name of this song? It slipped my mind

Best show I've been to in a long time.

great to see the affection between the greatest rock guitarist ever and his boy toward the end. They sound great!

Eddie Van Halen must be in violation of child labour laws by bringing his sixteen year old son Wolfgang on tour. Wolfgang should really be at school in grade 11 receiving his education with all the other kids instead of on the road. The kid is going to grow up unable to spell or do his math. Eddie Van Halen is an IRRESPONSIBLE FATHER!
siroptimistic 4 years ago

That would a shit kick'n band!

who knows? some years ago sammy and david planned a tour together but it didn't work out.

Are you his father>? NO, worry about your own fuckin kid. Obviously a fan of Van Hagar... this is Van Halen

FUCK VAN HAGAR! I just ran into Sammy Hagar the other day and I wanted to be like, you fuckin ruined music for me go drink some more fuckin cabo wabo!

siroptimistic!!
Is that really you Sammy Hagar? You sure sound like him. You seem to have alot of time between your shows. Sit down old man, have a hair cut, and see what the REAL VH are all about. Oh! have you said sorry to Mikey from fuckin up his VH family?
chrisstatas 4 years ago
Wolf's mom wouldn't let him go on tour without a tutor. At least thats what I've heard. I think she came along to make sure he wasnt drinking or anything.

I have to laugh....I read some of you commenting about Wolfgang's bad harmony after 2:40 in the song. Hey...if you pay close attention, that is NOT Wolfie's voice. That is that of someone sitting in the audience, near the camera man, singing aloud. The camera mic picked it up, but that is NOT coming from the band's sound system. You all have been fooled!
robbylane 4 years ago
Not much excitement here folks....old fans will be disappointed to see that Roth is not jumping around the stage like he did in the 1980s. And Wolfgang's background vocals sound so adolescent from 2:40-2:60 in this video. Reviews say the concert sound is distorted and muffled, and Wolfgang doesn't yet have the strength and agility in his hands to be a good bass player. His hands kind of flop around the bass guitar without much co-ordination.
siroptimistic 4 years ago
And you expected perfection? Why does everybody have to be so critical? The boys are in their 50's and Wolfie is just 16 yo. Just enjoy the fact that the MIGHTY VAN HALEN is back and have fun with it for pete sake! By the way, the adolescent vocals you hear are either that of the person taking this video or another fan nearby enjoying the concert.
mckean 4 years ago
sir optimistic>? Does the crowd sound disappointed? What reviews? Wolfies got plenty of talent, the band is tighter than they ever were with Mike. Mike was always all over the place live. The only thing that Real VH fans will miss is the Bathroom/cigarette break when mike attempted a bass solo

why aren't these assholes coming to tampa???
RBMSVHAlen 4 years ago
Have no idea, but think it is atrocious that NC is the furthest South they are going...Texans are also missing out!! Trust me I would much rather travel to Tampa than too NJ for another show...but...that being said...we will head to NJ for 11/3 show!!! Dude, beg, borrow or steal but get to one of these shows...
tuco111112 4 years ago
They are adding dates everyday. They Sold out Madison square Garden in under 5 minutes. They originally were only doing 25 shows, now theyre up tp 40.. probably testing the water to see how it goes. This will grow into a complete us tour..

See Ed kiss Wolfie at the end of the song. That says everything right there. I can hardly believe my eyes and ears.

k so 2 different responses here, did somone see him play the frankinstrat at either show? Im going to see them twice here in Toronto on the Oct 7th and 12th and I MUST see him play the frankentstrat!! I need that visual.

Saw charlotte, he did pull it out towards the end of the show for a couple of songs and thats it. These guys were on fire..

niiiiiice!!! thanks!
I cant fukkin wait 1 whole week...!!!!
Christodoulos 4 years ago
I understand what you mean about seeing him play that guitar. The original is a huge piece of guitar history,it priceless. Floyd Rose put the first of his locking, free floating tremelos on it. Not bad for "a warped body" he never knew the actual maker of. Hes got that locked away.. You'll see a Charvel clone
tinjo516 4 years ago
I would imagine that the Frankenstrat is retired for nothing but recording. Ed wasn't using the frankenstrat...in Charlotte. But iregardless...thsi show was crazy...as everyone else is stating if you have the opportunity to catch them, to catch them again...DO IT!!!!! This is well worth the gas, plane fare, hotel, ticket prices and beer money...JUST DO IT!!!!
tuco111112 4 years ago
he did on jump in philly. (i didnt go, i just saw vids)

Watch Eddie and Wolfie kiss at the end. That's a proud daddy there. No wonder Eddie's back with a vengeance. This band really is Van Halen now. I love it.
