I SAW THEM AT THE WEST PALM BCH AUD.IN THE EARLY 70'S. THE TOUR WITH THE RED PHONE BOOTH ON STAGE.FIVE MEN IN FULL LENGTH OVERCOATS,GLOVES,SCARVES,SHADES AND HATS WALKED TO THE FOOT OF THE STAGE,LOOKED OVER THE ENTIRE CROWD,LOOKED AT EACH OTHER,GAVE EACH OTHER THE NOD AND RIPPED THEIR CLOTHES OFF AND IT WAS THE BAND. THIS WAS SO CONVINCING EVERYONES MIND WAS BLOWN. POST THAT VIDEO IF ANYONE HAS IT. VERY COOL!
I was born in '77 so I missed out on all of this Tull and Ian greatness, I can only see it through other people's eyes, so I am extremely grateful for all of you who post these videos that make me wish I could have been there! Thank you!!!
Saw the Aqualung tour at Music Hall in Boston. Best show. Best sound. Best damn drummer (besides Mitch Mitchell of course). Ian Anderson balled out a noisy fan during a quiet number. Great music!
This is unbelievable footage for a true Tull fan. Thanks. Check the lucky set of rabbits feet hanging like testicles from Ian's belt. Classic. Hmmmm, wonder where Mick Fleetwood got that idea.....
Sorry, I had tix 3 times before, all at Fillmore east. I just got my license, had late show tix and it's snowing, so we punked out, some older guys bought the tix. Who knew? Benefit then was released. Ian gets a sore throat. No Tull. Humble Pie played til sunup, great. 3rd time, still Benefit, get tix, some concert called the Shea Stadium Peace Festival comes together, Bill Graham closes the Fillmore, no Tull. Spring '71, finally see Tull play Aqualung in Philly at the Spectrum.
wow i was there too. we had done some great acid and had the best time. i saw him every time he came to philly until 79 after that one. someone threw a brick at him on the thick as a brick tour. prolly staged...
Fantastic Posting!! Only 469 viewings??!!..What's wrong with the world. Tull were one of the greatest live acts of the 70s. They were up there with The Who, Led Zeppelin, etc. Thanks for a brilliant posting, Ben. It deserves to be seen by millions.
The most enduring of rock/folk rock bands ever

Eagles...fine in their own genre...but not prog rock...apples and oranges

Tanglewood...better than Madison Square Garden....Tull arrived.

This performance belongs in a rock museum of some sort. This is as good as it gets. Wow!

Cline bunker is one of the best drummers. I was fortunate to see him on the aqualung Tour in florida.

One of my favourite Jethro Tull songs. Fantastic.

Love it when he dances and plays air guitar. Must have learned how at the same school as Joe Cocker.

The Eagles ripped this song and turned it into 'Hotel California'. They toured together in the seventies.
bazookabuddha 3 years ago
Sad that "Hotel California" is regarded as the better song.
BenDrnach 3 years ago
That's just a matter of personal taste.
Personally, I'd never put any Eagles song in the same category as stuff Tull did.
But as I said, it's just a matter of taste.
(I do note that you said "sad"...I agree!)

Must be my favorite track from Stand Up, intense flute solo, and the guitar solos also.

Ian Anderson, Martin Barre, Glenn Cornick, Clive Bunker, John Evan - my favourite Jethro Tull.

Brilliant band, yes they were on par with Led Zep,Pink Floyd and alike.

They aren't as popular though. They deserve more.

Absolutely
roac7777 3 years ago
Totally agree with you!

i agree however i think it was Anderson's antics that really was what made them not as popular in the end. maybe i'm wrong

Early on, Tull wasn't as mainstream as were those bands until Aqualung came along. Suddenly they became much more mainstream and less "underground".
BritIronRebel 2 years ago
Yes you could say that, although that is not always a bad thing. My fav. albums were/are Stand Up and Benefit
roac7777 2 years ago
Oh...I agree with you 100% about it not being a bad thing.
In fact, when bands get to be too mainstream, I tend to stop listening.....overplay on the radio, etc..

The world has gone to Hell. Can't you tell? Just listen to today's music versus the music of the 60s and 70s when all was right with the world.
