DP mark 2 created their own genre, not style but an entire genre of which only they played. It could be called; HARD rhythm and symphonidelic jazz ROCK. when the five of them were together it was pure magic. all the songs were group compositions.
The first time this Texas boy heard this album was when my German uncle who lives in Berlin, also mine and my mothers birthplace sent this too me and my two brothers for christmas. Loved being an army brat.
Deep Purple is a true "World Class" band. At one time, they were as big as the Stones in popularity. They paved the way for many metal bands, but never got their just reward, for such great music. They should be in the Hall for their original line-up and the shear record sales that they had. This album is packed with good music. Packed...

This song is revolutionary for heavy metal. That galloping riff and that twin guitar sound is sooooo fucking heavy! Love DP, the best band ever! But i hate them for not making more albums like DP in Rock. Fucking bastards.
It begins simple hint that Ritchie is there and then he fades into the background and lets it build to 3:19 when he decides to remind you of his presence with those thrashing chords, and then the gong forces you to admit that its true, God has arrived...And that's when you realize its The Blackmore's party and he is an angry vengeful god...lol.
This track is TOTALLY FUCKIN' INSANE.....time to give the young upstarts of today a stiff boot up thy fucked up computerised arse, an' told to not never come back NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!!

@sabbath1888 Good way to start a Purple journey... being an obsessed Purpler for over twenty years, I'd have to say that In Rock is probably their best straight forward rock and roll album. Fuck Machine Head 'yawn'.
@sabbath1888 I have been listening to this band my whole life.I first got into them in early 1971 with this album and their other album Fireball. This was over a year before they released the album Machine Head. They were my favorite band during the 1970s. I also had there other albums Made In Japan,Who Do We Think We Are?,Burn and Stormbringer. I stopped buying their records until the early 1980s when they had their hit song "Perfect Strangers". @sabbath1888 i know how you feel...in the case of black night,i heard first time when i went to their show in 2011 October...needless to say it was awesome man =D
This song was recorded on JAN. 1, 1970!!!! What a way to bring in the '70s huh?! You're listening to a song recorded only four months after Woodstock took place. The rock of the '60s and '70s is just IT! No argument. There will never another decade of such sheer progression and inventiveness. Nothing compares....NOTHING!
True, but Album oriented Rock wasn't even around in 1967, so we relied on top 40, basically. Deep Purple was not churning out the hits the way that the Cream or Zep did, so they were flying under the radar for most people back then. "In Rock" was the album that really put them on the map with people who were into this sound.
What I'm saying is that you bought this album based on Hush, but that was really a different sounding Purple with Rod Evans on vocals, and not the heavy rock of this album...so you could have been disappointed...hopefully you weren't.
Before Gillan and Glover Purple were more of an English Vanilla Fudge, and didn't really have a musical identity...have you heard the 3 albums before In Rock?...very good....but totally different.
still moves me now same as it did in 1970 when i first heard it.....deep and heavy, shame they lost their way a bit, compared to this; maybe Ritchie was right- go for the hard rockin' heavy guitar sound instead of funk which eventually killed Mk 111....
simply classic- 40 yrs after it was recorded- luckily i am old enough to have heard it live in 1970 when the screams were 'real' and raw....peace and rock on.....
Wooow, today's music compared to this , is shit like i don't remember the last time i felt like crying over today's music , like it's only beat and guys that sings like girl *cough* Justin * cough* bieber *cough* sorry i have a cold ;D ,

This raw sound, simply recorded at De Lane Lea studios is th epitome of Purple at their best. I got into them around 1982. I loved the destructive, overdriven, on the edge sound. I was also into drug and alcohol fuelled music and it catered for that perfectly. Later on in life I still flash back to lost moments as though they were yesterday and I love it just as much now as I did then.s
DEEP PURPLE played this song LIVE yesterday, at Prague's O2 Arena. Hard Lovin Man became the opener of the Deep Purple's live set!!!! Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssss!!!
I've had this album 35 years now and it still sounds as fresh as ever. A lot of the sixties stuff sounds dated now, but this album ROCKS and still sends shivers up my spine. Great stuff. Thanks for posting as this sounds better than my crackly old LP.
the man on guitar is richtie blackmore, actually one of the best guitarplayer in the world, the year was 1970 the 1 january. a newyears song, a little bit of the early metalstuff what was completly new, because the word metal was just born.
Sexiest song of Deep Purple.

I've had this album 35 years now and it still sounds as fresh as ever. A lot of the sixties stuff sounds dated now, but this album ROCKS and still sends shivers up my spine. Great stuff. Thanks for posting as this sounds better than my crackly old LP.

My favourite ever by these boys. The mother of all monster grooves, and the organ and guitar solos are fantastic
