This is boring - sorry. No real sense of real blus shuffle on the bass. It can really be great, but you are just too technical....have you heard Ron Salico and Larry Taylor ever?
@MarloweDK ooh. which effect did u use on the korg? anyways, is it advisable to just have an acoustic bass, and use effect pedals to make it sound like an electric bass? what are the pros and cons?
@singingmudskipper Its an electro acoustic bass - an acoustic bass is normally what you call a double/upright bass. My Korg settings you can find on playbassnowDOTcom under Pages and under Making videos with Korg px4d. I dont try to make it sound like anything i just play it like i normally do. I would use it live in a loud band though due to the feedback
Very very nice, this is again a ver very nice piece of work man, i've seen a lot of you videos and i think you become my favorite teacher. I love the way you make it youre blues. Keep on going !
can you do this again in the key of e so i can play the boogie mama part from led zeps live 73 whole lotta love over it ,,,G's a bit tricky to play this one in,,bu hey whether you do or dont ,,its good stuff dude,
I've reached a point in blues bass playing were i cant seem to get out of the box im in,i think you should do a blues tutorial, some dam fine playing there
hmmm ... never noticed this vid before ... I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you have an acoustic bass as well ... nice lines, a little different than the usual Marlowe stuff!
Really nice. I like the double stopping in the beginning and near the end. You have a very nice touch on your attack and fingering. I have a 5 string fretless acoustic like that, mine's a Michael Kelly, and I am amazed at how good these acoustic basses sound.
man i'm stunted!!! First of all you got the blues!! u don't just play a 12 bar..Awsome!
Second: u have THE sound! i loved the muted tones!i loved the tone of this bass! man u made the acoustic sound like a fender Jazz bazz... what bass is this?
Third: how did u learn to play the blues like that? i try but i can't fo anything.everything i try sounds bad.
thx man, just take parts of basslines and frases and put them together again. You need a library of 1, 2 and 4 bar lines, dive into you record collection. Johnny B gayden from Albert Collins band is a good start
Marlow: Please do a tutorial on this. When do you think you might be putting up a subscribtion web course? How much will you charge and all that? I really like your teaching style. It's not too fast and not too slow. It's just right!
a rather funky approach to blues, I always liked that ! But not every blues musician's cup of tea: I remember once when I was playing with a blues-fond type of guy, he wanted the bass to be nothin else than ultra laid back. Blues can be so boring when tangled in its own limitations and narrow mindedness.
yes, laid back like in 'tin pan alley' by Stevie Ray Vaughan (he's one of the best guitarist, me think) - the bass is soo laid back yet sooo tasty in that song: just open the volume of your amp to 100% and enjoy the masterpiece !
i have blues jams a lot with my band director at school, and i find myself playing the same sort of lines each time. so yes, a blues shuffle tutorial would be very much appreciated.
and i think that guy meant what you do now, as far as occupation goes; what brings the money in.
tutorial tutorial tutorial!!!!! :D... plis make one.. for your fans.. remeber you said that when you reach the subscriber 1000 you were gonna do some video explaining some of your stuffs.. you rock, or maybe you blues!!!
Well i think i AM explaining some of my stuff on this channel . If/when i make a site it will be for payment, so enjoy the free stuff while you can ;-)
it would be nice to get your point of view on walking bass lines. I used to just play around with 1,3,5 and then throw some extra notes in if I had to. But I was never a really good bass player back in the day anyway. so yeah, put up a tutorial, but instead of showing us how to play certain notes, please explain why you are playing certain notes. thanks again! you are incredible.
how'd you know he doesn't already have a girl? :p Christ knows with his bass playing he could probably pull Jessica Simpson - just blast her with some funk and she'd be putty :D
great tone, great chops! nice work buddy
