  • Clip a short one inch piece of wire coat hanger bend just the two ends and grind them to a point so it looks like a long staple press this make shift staple into the rubber/plastic chuck on the power drill (or use a piece of copper tape) then just lay the wires so the bare wire touches the chuck. Every rotation both wires will touch the coathanger/coppertape creating a complete circuit and add one to the pedometer or preferably just use a calculator instead. Thanks for the great tutorial!!

  • why not using a bike speed counter?

  • do you mean solder?

  • is one turn when winding the pickup a full wrap around or just half way around, so is it a 360 degree or 180 degree turn

  • where did you buy the two pieces of plastic and the magnets for the PU?

  • @San5a You can buy parts and kits from stewmac, mojo music supplies and montreuxguitars.

  • hey it's Steve Vai!

  • You're not Macgyver by chance are you?

  • i made this and it works on a very low speed, but my winder was built to run fast , is there a way to make it work on a faster speed?

  • Upgrade to a power drill. then use a switch, something like a household light dimmer switch (speed control) ie power outlet-switch-drill

  • @MrGrumpyGinger you can't use a light dimmer with a power drill, because of the way the dimmer works. it doesn't reduce voltage, it chops up the power signal into smaller or larger pieces. that works with light bulbs, but would most likely fry the drill's motor windings

  • Damn man your fucking smart that was very informative. I favorited this video because i might use it someday.

    Thanks xD

  • Nice and easy. Good work!

  • Ah, that makes sense. Well, you could always do a test run on the pedometer, and find the RPM, then you could just set a timer for how many rotations you want.

  • You not just attach a piece of thin plastic to the winder so it smacks the pedometer every time it comes around. Would be far easier.

  • I actually tried this. Problem is, it was too hard to read the pedo when it started spinning fast.

  • @0hypnotoad0 you'd probly end up breaking the pedomiter that way

but this method does seem to be a bit unstable, why not just rid the siding off the mootor and expose the motor and place the reed there?

  • ha, damn, awesome idea u got there budday

  • are you indian?

  • Pretty damn cool! Thanks for posting this.

  • do you do this so you dont have to keep scratching the enamel off the wire and testing it? does the scratch test harm it in some way?

  • Basically yes. I don't like scratch testing since you can break the wire if you aren't careful.
