I think some people need to read the Shaolin grandmaster texts..... Any "genuine" monk would not compete. Any genuine monk would not make films. These all massage the ego, when it's the ego we need to suppress..

I like how people have heard that shaolin is all wushu acrobatics and they repeat it. Even when viewing a video of a man demonstrating the principle of throwing by blending with an attacking energy, very high level stuff, but still... it's all wushu. Keep watching and maybe what is important might occur to you.

Shi Yan Zi & Yan Lei are all both corrupt monks man LOL. I've been there - they exploit the western students 4 money & teach them San Shou instead of traditional gymnastic Shaolin, flipping, thumbling & animal styles which they keep 4 their own folks. We're not stupid man...
shifu yanzi specialises in sanshou and uses shaolin techniques to teach this to his students, what he teaches is genuine shaolin gong fu and qi gong, the emphasis is on sanshou (which is his chosen skill out of the 72 shaolin styles) and is demonstrated in the video. Him and shifu yanlei are shaolin monks who pass on genuine knowledge. you dont mention the strength training classes, the forms classes, the weapons classes and qi gong classes.
as you say gymnastic shoalin, its basically modern WuShu.....not pure martial arts but more for looks, traditional shaolin does not use flips and other arial arts, those are for show.
