this is a great movie! i think Russell is supposed to represent Ellie. He, like Ellie, changed Carl's life through adventure and the phrase "cross your heart" is used by both Russell and Ellie. In the end both promises were fulfilled. There are definitely a lot of "English Class" moments where you start to analyze everything and realize this movie is just a representation of the stages of life.

@applesweeter Well since this song is associated with the movie, and this movie is associated with everything from life, to death, nostalgia, promises..... I imagine balloons (gee wonder why) of all colours, representing every aspect of life: like maybe yellow for joy, red for love, blue for sadness.....and the song, I think anyway, set out to capture all aspects as well. And I think it does it brilliantly. Also, we love flying cos we all want to see the world in a different way.

I love this song... But I hate this movie... I hate the beginning because it shows him finding a childhod friend and someone to grow old with.. Iv never had a childhood friend..
