ADA SARI (29 June 1886 - 12 July 1968) was a Polish opera singer, actress, and educator. One of the leading coloratura sopranos of her generation, she possessed a large, resonant voice with a clear timbre.
BEAUTIFUL VOICE!!! Thank you for sharing this video.
The voice is beautifully integrated from top to bottom. Her middle range is beautiful. The top notes do not sound as if they were separated from the rest of the voice. I think that she is a wonderful singer. I've never heard of her until I watched this video. Thanks for posting.
What a gorgeous voice which Sari exercises with great finesse, charm, and intelligence. How on earth did I miss hearing this treasure before today! Thank you for this great recording.
during the first years of '900 women were so nice! beautiful and perfect sweet faces with no makeup, long hair to the ground and angelic voice.. what do we have now?
What a splendid recording! What an ineffible example of what a soprano voice can do!
Thank you so much for the historical notes, too, Jurek. Never feel you are giving us too much detail. You give us glimpses of a world of art hidden from us outsiders by walls of commercial noise. You get a bravo for this, brother.
THIS is what coloraturas SHOULD emulate but there is NO one who can do this because they are to taught to bellow rather than sing with spontaneous ease
if , in our days, we had more educators as Ada Sari ,surely we would also have more good trained singers and of course much more interesting productions of opera !!!
Phaidra69, you're right, BUT we also need to throw out those foolish stage directors! They think everything needs to be "modernized" and they destroy beautiful operas with their stupid 'cutting-edge" vision of what THEY want to see, not caring that these librettos DON'T translate well to modern eras AND not caring who they offend-they forget sometimes there are children in the audience, some people ARE sensitive, many don't care to have their senses assaulted by these stupid stagings. Ah well...
If only "ONE" SINGER could match the "spontaneous,"clear singing exemplified by Ada Sari instead of the hooty, throaty bellowing common to coloraturas heard today
My grandmother has been a big fan of her .... I love her too. In this times this kind of sopranos have been able to sing with colors not to go to fast in bigger repertoires! They sung with timbre and elegance (the coloraturas have been correct in attack) and a feminine kindness to regard our ears! BRAAAAAVA! Thanks for posting
Sari's voice exudes lightness, charm, and warmth. She is indeed an ideal interpreter of Johann Strauss songs, comparable to singers such as Selma Kurz, Maria Ivogun, Frieda Hempel, and Rita Streich.
On a par with Tetrazzini's great recording of the song and more charming.
Wonderful! Here is the undeniable proof that Polish women are the most beautiful :) and have the most exquisite voices as is evidenced by this outstanding presentation. Dziekuje.
This posting represents an invaluable contribution to the YouTube treasury of great voices of the past. Sari's rendition of Fruhlingsstimmen is, with a doubt, one of the finest I've EVER heard. There's a real sweetness in her voice. Thank you for this video. FIVE STARS....worth six if I could do it!
A very charming performance. Thank you very much for posting this further example of Sari's voice. How puzzling it is that an artist of her calibre is not more generally heard. Perhaps the social and economic upheavals in Europe had something to do with that circumstance. The fine work that you and your posting colleagues do in bringing Sari and other artists again to general attention via YouTube is most admirable.
"social and economic upheavals in Europe had something to do with that circumstance". Yes, I would add - political, too: 40 years of frozen after-war relations had their impact, too. See the case of our great composer, Karol Szymanowski, generally unknown.

julia59 3 years ago
Na przykład, do nagrań dokonanych systemem akustycznym (tych bez mikrofonu, np. Carusa) dodawano...pogłos-echo.
Tak spaskudzone jest nagranie Sari z 'Lakme'.
Dzisiaj - per analogia - klimatyzację często stosuje się na full i wtedy jak w ogóle nie jest potrzebna...:)
