Personally I think this series is brilliant because it was ahead of its time. The kind of advertisments and useless crap marketed as useless and therefore desirable anticipates the mid nineties up to today by about 2 decades! They also made use of the whole 'anti advert; idea that collette dickinson pearce and saatci and saatchi claimed to be their own by about a decade (although I beleive the former may have been making their famous cigarette ads around the same time as reggie perrin).

Those talking of Irish racism in this sitcom obviously haven't seen it all. The Irishman turns out to be the only one who works out what Perrin is up to, rendering the argument redundant.

very sad that while rising damp was quite correctly praised for its comical yet sensitive handling of issues of racial prejudice against black people in the uk, one can see here callous disregard for the irish, once again accepting the politically motivated stereotyping of the irish as bumbling idiots! it is odd that britain sees itself as 'cleaning up' the world from the dirt of racism and oppression, with our corrupt, capitalist democracy - hadn't we better make sure our own doorstep is clean?

err, i thought the representation of the engish people was also stereotypical and therefore prejudice in your view. correct me if im wrong but the stereotype was there to challenge peoples opinions, all charachters are outrageously stereotypical in order to emphasise the ridiculousness of prejudice.

@moseley74 yes you are right mate - it's just i hate the way the irish are portrayed in television - i think everybody knows how ridiculous the stereotype of the irish is... so do we really need to see it again on the screen, even if tongue in cheek..anyway they stereotype the posh english not all english, they stereotype a sector of the population, not the entire country as they do so often with ireland... but yeah you're right i guess i just have bee in my bonet about this particular issue! ta

@rugbyboy198127 Oh dear. For your information, all English are stereotyped: Northerners for being low-class and impolite. Scousers for being thieves, East Anglians for being country bumpkins, cockneys for being common, people from Brighton portrayed as all being gay. It's comedy, get over it. That's one of the reasons I live in Thailand, no politically correct crap forced down my throat. Take the piss out of everyone - it's healthy!

@puppi3000 no i disagree, there is a line which ought not be crossed...for example would you allow the stereo-types of the african-american during the time of slavery which still persists in it's unfortunate forms today... that they are stupid,cannot control their lust,are closer to monkeys etc etc - is this ok? so they should just laugh it off? i disagree, what if i said the men in thailand are not real men but women - stereotyping the transgenders etc? that you have no chest hair thus not men?

@rugbyboy198127 I see your point. Racism is bad, but there are levels. Did u know that Thais get into tourist attractions cheaper than foreigners (even though some Thais are rich). Did you know this is the only country in the world where foreigners are not allowed to own land or a business. I'm sorry, but telling a few black or Jewish jokes is small beer compared to the real racism you see here. Southeast Asia is the most racist continent in the world and Britain has gone too far the other way.

@rugbyboy198127 One more thing. Some stereotypes are based on a small element of truth. The Thai stereotype of Westerners that live in Thailand is that we are either criminals or whoremongers (partly true). The expat stereotype of Thai men is that they are lazy, violent, drunks who leg it the moment they get a girl pregnant. This is, in some cases true, but not for all Thai men. Thai culture has, in the past, turned a blind eye to cheating on your wife.

What planet are you living on? If Google didn't run ads on Youtube to defray costs, the alternative would be to cut the free access and begin CHARGING viewers a MONTHLY FEE or a fee per viewing. Nothing is free but the air.

I first looked at this clip over a month ago when there was a minute long advert at the start that I couldn't skip actually.
