  • How the hell did you find all these locations? I know that the town is still there, but all the various shots you angled up in the same way. Nicely done.

  • Szacunek.

  • Still one of my favorite videos....to go with one of my all-time favorite films.

  • @Methadone4Life Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • Congratulations.

This is an incredible impossible-finding-location work! Excellent!

Did you finally ate at Casa Alba? haha we did!

  • @naturalspain Thank you. Yes I always eat at the Alba, excellent gazpacho and Manuel has turned it into a nice little museum of Spaghetti Westerns.

  • thank you so much for posting....one of the best movies ever....

  • I want that goddamn rock that Clint pretends to write on prior to the showdown. He tosses it to the ground after killing The Bad in the movie. Do you think it's still there???

  • @myrtlebox Yeah it still exists and I doubt they took it with them after shooting. Probably still there on the ground somewhere. The western set used toward the beginning of the movie with Clint bringing Eli Wallach in as Eli is tied and lying on his stomach across a horse is not in this video probably because that scene was shot in Italy and that would have been a lot of driving!! When the Bad shoot Baker through the pillow, that was shot in Italy too, in Rome in the studio.

  • @myrtlebox LOL..

  • @myrtlebox Well, there's plenty of rocks with no names on them there!

  • one of me favorite movies

  • excellent montage , very impressive , i'm sitting here in awe !

  • @Magnolia296 Absolutely correct

  • haunting

  • This video should win some kind of YouTube award! I mean, It's awesome!!!

  • I am proud to live in Almería, i have visited a lot of this locations :D

  • I still hate how my family never managed to at least go to the Madrid locations while we lived in Spain. This is one of my dad's and my favorite movies, and I even saw it for the first time when we were there

  • Such a strange feeling watching these...sad,wistful just a myriad of feelings as I watch this. I'm sure many who grew up in the 70's feel the same way about these locations and the films in general. Leone and all of the directors of the great Italian films were pure genius. I miss these type of films. I hope that some new director with style and class(rare today)will realise that CGI isnt the only game in town and maybe we can see a great Spaghetti western made today..but never as good as 60's

  • Thanks, from the land of strip malls and sub divisions. Growth and development has transformed our once beautiful country to every place is the same traffic jam to nowhere.

  • only the great Sergio Leone can take out from these harsh wild locations such emotional film shooting.

  • great video thanks alot im glad most of the locations are intact wonder if clint ever goes back there, ive heard they are going to do new spagetti westerns but im not sure if its true.

  • it's a special place, looks so calm and serene, thanx

  • this was amazing! ! ! Loved it, brought tears to my eyes....

I now know, it's not just me who loves those locations. :D

  • great

  • Outstanding master piece and work effort!! Just Amazing

  • Wow amazing!

    thx in advance

  • GBU title

    The sundown

    The chase

    Father Ramirez

    The march

    The military train

    The Fort

    The ectasy of gold

  • big ty

  • AWESOME.I think the dollars & gbu trilogy are the most breathtaking piece of film making ever & it so emotive to watch them & this.Well done swlocations. All your videos are masterpieces, thankyou.

  • That is god damn epic...

  • Do you know if there are organized tours of the area? Or shows etc. about it?

  • @makavelimavi For Almeria try googling Tuco Tours, there may be others too. For Madrid and Burgos locations none that I know of.

  • Very nice

    great job

    Tnx

  • Great and very interesting. One can still see the remains of the graves at "Sad Hill".

  • well done, brings tears

  • Thanks, this was really cool.

  • Now my official favorite youtube video!

Did you have any hints were to find the places not directly in Tabernas? Some of them look like they took some serious searching.

  • Finding the locations is the most fun, sometimes a lot of driving or walking with stills to find the right spot that lines up with the movies. Plus there's been a lot of research in recent years and websites. Many locations are used in several movies so you get a feel for the area.

  • Another interesting thing to see is the original poncho, boots, belt, etc from the movie. I saw them once at the Gene Autry Museum in Los Angeles. It was a traveling Sergio Leone exhibit and I recommend it for any GBU fan.

  • at 1:53 the classic line of "HEY BLONDIE" springs to mind!! lol

  • Great photography, editing, scoring and most of all .... subject.

  • For all of us die-hard GBU fans (and I know there are plenty of us, seeing a lot of the same usernames on different GMU videos) , this is a priceless jewel! Thanks for posting it.

  • Are you kidding me? That town set is still there?! This is awesome!

  • Veramente un gran bel lavoro. Complimenti!

  • thank you so much for this...it's more than amazing to those that love these movies...you people are brilliant

  • Brilliant!!

  • "You people are Awsome... I cant say enough!"

  • Excellent swlocations - thanks for this, a real good job for us spaghetti western 'GtBtU fans! Marcjboy

  • WHAT IS THAT ON :27 SEC?

  • Angel Eyes arriving at Steven's farmhouse past well.

  • Its the well ,the boy was riding the donkey around in circles which turned the water wheel .

  • Apologies to Glynamus. I intended to click "thumbs up" but clicked "thumbs down" by mistake.

    Benny.

  • Wauw!!! Most buildings are still there!

    Goddamn, I'm going!

  • i do not know what to say but bravo! you made a wonderful film and a real dream come true. next time you want to go to sad hill, take me with you. my passport and a cash box of coins are ready!!!!!!!!

  • I recommend you bury the coins in the unmarked grave next to the one marked Angel Eyes, it will be safe there:)

  • In a word, astonishing.

How did you find the location at 1:14?? It's just a rock! It's amazing that you could find it.

I've visited a few film locations (not of spaghetti westerns) and I'm always a little disappointed when I find the actors aren't there as well!

  • That overhanging rock is in an area that was widely used in spag westerns (Badlands of Tabernas), even from a distance its quite distinctive and as its high up pretty easy to spot. I think that it must have been easier to get to 40 years ago i.e. to get the actors, cameras, lights director etc up there. These days its tricky with very loose shale that gives way as you try to scramble up.

  • @dcasey77 Yeah, It's amazing. He found everything!!!!

    That's what I was thinking

  • amazing

  • What a great video. I have to get the soundtrack to this movie, which I believe is the quintessential western film. Thanks for posting.

  • sorry did´t read all spain right

and is there a tour or u have to find everything for your self

  • Its difficult to find organised tours, I prefer to visit the locations by myself that way you have time explore and enjoy the surroundings. If you plan to go and need directions drop me an email which can be found from my website (see my profile info).

  • great vid where is the location country etc thanx

  • brilliant video

its my dream to go to sad hill

pause at 7.35 and you can see the outline perfectly

  • Incredible

  • This is absolutely fantastic. Thanks so much for producing this!

  • amazing video...truly amazing

    I'm in awe......thank you.

  • I have to visit that locations with my father. I saw the film 100 times with him. great vid, 5*

  • We went to Tabernas, looking for some outdoor locations, and Fort Bravo.

  • Great locations, I have to visit these sites again.

  • Oh man thanks for this upload. I was last week in Balanegra, and went to some of the sites. Awsome.

  • Where have you been?

  • Great job i always wonder how it would look today. I hope to one day go and see this in person. I use to watch these movies with my grandfather and grandermother they both passed away over 30 years ago. She always would say the Clint Eastwood was here boyfriend. Great stuff keep up the good job.

  • absolutely fascinating...some locations have hardly changed! Was Sad Hill filmed in northern Spain?

  • Yes, if you click on Statistics & Data, Sad Hill is placemarked on the Google map. Its about 30 km South of Burgos.

  • Fantastic. Thank you for showing this.I went to Sad Hill about 3 years ago - approached it over the hill to the south from San Domingo and there it was as you crest the brow - thanks again.

  • Take a look at this site sigpac(dot)mapa(dot)es(forward slash)fega(forward slash) visor" apologies if it looks cryptic but you can't enter web addresses in comments. If you can find Sad Hill and then zoom in to the photographic image the view is stunning.

  • Moving.

  • I am curious, did sad hil really exist in real life? and if so, where?

  • I asked the question to contact who knows a lot about the civil war, he doesn't believe so. Plus he wasn't aware of any civil war graveyards with the circular design that you see in this movie.

  • do you know how the town movie location of fistful of dollars hoyo de manzaneres dissappeared? was it tore down? johnny

  • Not sure, there's not much left now, just a few bricks here and there. If it had the same fate as Flagstone a lot of the set ended up as building materials.

  • Did you have pictures whit you? to get them so exact?

    Greet work.

  • Yes, it is important to take some movie screen dumps in order to align the terrain to find the correct locations. Alternatively a portable DVD player would be good, but I've only ever taken screen dumps.

  • This is amazing! I admire your effort to search exact locations. I'm so touched. This is a grand pilgrimage!! I'd like to visit these places someday.

  • That is very good Movie. You see my movei that is more photo this place, and a new Italo Western movie 500 Dollars kopfgeld.

Do you look my movie to You Tube.

  • great you should come to america and do the filming of my "Two pistol are faster than one" how do you say that in spanish? I wish I would have been with you when I visited in october, On the renfe down to almeria did I pass any of these sites. johnny kline

  • If you travelled on the Granada - Almeria line then yes you would have passed through Calahorra station where Tuco and Wallace board the train in GBU plus the location of the remains of the Flagstone from Once Upon a Time in the West. Also Guadix station, used in Quien Sabe and Indiana Jones and the last Crusade.

  • The haunting music, the desolated sceneries, the cool characters in the movie. This is arguably the most memorable movie of all times

  • This is cool!

Are you maybe ever going to do this with "My Name Is Nobody" locations?

  • No plans to at present mainly because many USA locations were using in Nobody, but one day who knows.

  • Thankyou so much. This video bring back old memories. I always wonder where SAD HILL cemetary is located? The music is so eerily beautiful and haunting. Very enjoyable video, thankyou for your effort!

  • If you click on the Statistics & Data tab the position of Sad Hill is recorded, its about half way between Santo Domingo De Silos and Contreras, both of which are South of Burgos.

  • are you sure I have a book that says fistfull of dollars was shot at almeria

  • Sure I'm sure. The scenes filmed in Almeria were, Marisol's house which is now the Cortijo de Sotillo hotel in San Jose, some of the riding through rambla scenes and the Adios Amigo scene when Clint rides into San Miguel. The scene then cuts to the film set town in Hoyo de Manzanares which is about 30km North of Madrid. There's a very distintive mountain range behind the set, so no doubt it was there. River Ambush filmed about 20km West of Madrid at Aldea de Fresno.

  • are ther any picture of what the town looks like now hoyo de manzanres?

  • Unfortunately there's nothing left of the town except a few piles of bricks here and there. I'll include some pictures when I get time to put together a Fistful of Dollars location tour.

  • WOW! Great job guys! Thanks! Have you guys tried selling this to the production company for their next anniversary film of the Good, Bad, and the Ugly??? It would be cool just to have your name and work associated with Sergio's. =)

    Just a thought.

  • Its a nice thought although I'm not sure they'd appreciate me using stills and music from the originals. Not that I make any money out of this and hopefully it will encourage people to buy the original movies.

  • fantastic!

  • BRAVO!!!

  • Before the "Spaghetti" westerns came out, Western movies were quite cliche. For one, the good guy always wore white, the bad guy black, and it wasn't as gritty as it really was. Leone though, he changed that. He brought the true Wild West out in his films.

  • Bravoooooooooo, Nice job

  • Good job, in the real leone's spirit.

    Thank you.

  • thanks for that swlocations, I will look into it further, has always been an ambition of mine to visit these historic locations...

  • I have to say this is a truly remarkable piece of film you shot...this is my favourite film of all time so I am always looking out for different angles to this masterpiece, thank you very much..I am hoping to visit some locations, more especially the fistful of dollare set, is this in almera, southern spain???

  • The Fistful of Dollars main town set was at Hoyo De Manzanares which is just North of Madrid. There's nothing left of it now though, just a few bricks here and there. There are many places to visit in Almeria though particularly from Few Dollars More and GBU.

  • Excellent!!!!

  • One of the best clips on this site, it does the film proud...

  • Maravilloso trabajo.

    Gracias

  • How cool was that!!!!

  • Great stuff! My favorite movie and love the music.

  • great job ramone, this is so awesome thanks for your work, your time..

  • Fantastic

    Well Done.

Tuco, Blondie & Angeleyes would be proud!

  • What a beautiful montage. I like how you faded the past away to show the present (esp. at 05:36) - the zoom in, pause and pull back at 7:40 - the glorious mountains to the end. Glad to see it's not all covered with townhouses and McDonaldeses :)

  • My ageing Sony camcorder has the ability to dissolve from a still on its internal memory card to live video, so the trick is to capture stills from the movies on to the camera memory card, then line up the shots and let the video camera do the dissolve between original and live.

  • Muy bueno estoy seguro que nos llena de nostalgia y recuerdos. No se porque este film sigue calando ta profundo

  • fantastic job !

  • Great!

  • What an amazing job!

    Thank you!

  • Great collection of then and now. It must have been a lot of work. Thank you for sharing!

  • I'd like to do a pilgrimage to the holy grail of westerns AND film making. How did you locate these areas? I'd be on a BMW road bike and would probably have the better part of a day. If you were discreet, would it be possible to camp out in the mountains?

Your clip is worthy of a tip of the sombrero and a healthy swig from the jug!

  • you paved your own way to the IMMORTALITY with this short movie.great job.

  • Wonderful video. So is the cemetery actually there? I couldn't tell. I could see a circular pattern in those long shots. But I didn't see actual headstones.

  • The headstones were removed after filming but the grave mounds are still visible particularly from up above. The cemetery area is fairly overgrown and used as grazing ground for cattle. My video was taken in May 2006 when the ground was wet and boggy after raining. I guess the area could look very different in the height of the summer when everything dries out.

  • So it was a filming prop? There is no one buried there, mounds or no mounds?

  • It was just a prop, no one buried there, except Angel Eyes of course :)

  • Wonderful. I'm speechless. I wonder if there is a way to get a copy of this video in DVD format? Or even AVI/DIVX... Please! Regards from Brazil. Cospefogo.

  • I'd like to put a DVD together once I've done a video for all of the Leone Westerns. Also a couple more GBU locations to add in to make it as complete as possible.

  • You are the best ! good video !

  • Muy bien amigo, muy bien. A mi me gusta mucha!

  • MMMMMMMM...

This video bears a strong resemblance to one of mine, the Lawrence locations, don´t you?

  • Great stuff, amigo! Love the "steadicam" as I know how rough the track is, particularly around Cortillo Del Fraile. Strength to your elbow in your labour of love as a lot of it's disappearing. Thank God they can't shift the mountains!

  • Nice one

  • Marvelous! Nice musical montage! It is striking to see up to what point most sites did not change...

  • Amazing your work, man.

  • Encore Bravo Ramon!!!

  • Very interesting.A lot of work and research.

  • Muy bueno.

  • Bravo, Ramon, bravo!
