in the mod everything seems to be bigger than original like leevel 4

They need to work on optimizing the mod because the last time I tried it (6 Level Demo) it was laggy and slow as hell (and I have a Dual-core and SLI system with 4 GB of RAM).

It doesn't look to clever in this video either, it looks choppy and jittery. All in all though a decent mod, just needs optimizing like I said.

@NitroTab1 This was recorded on an old laptop that I had (Core2Duo) and I was on Vista which a lot of people know is not too great of an operating system. I did another one recording with a Geforce 8500 and a Single Core 3.0 Ghz CPU and it actually was smoother. The Game is not optimized to use such advanced settings seen in later hardware. This has broken some things for mods of this caliber (Out of Hell for UT2k4 comes to mind since). But you can optimize your hardware settings so it will work

Too bad the mod is pretty much dead, I loved Dark Forces and would love a remake on the new engine. It really looks awesome.

Well Lucius is making a reverse engineered engine for DF and I'm currently making a DF mod for Skulltag

Seems like I understimated the modders (it still says 35% but I'm pretty sure the maps have had some progress anyways)

Also, there are recent news on their site, the usual "sorry we've been busy" but still someone is thinking about it.

Hope they don't let it down now.

Interesting, that the version i have has no briefing(the words missing...at the menu buttons too) Nor anything at the loading screen, or when i push tab.

Also the Texture of Kyle masses up after a reload. I don't get it what i did or downloaded wrong, can you give some hint?! I like to play with this, but these makes it a bit tiring. :S

I am a huge fan of Dark Forces and learned FPS editing with it. I could find my old mac from 1993 and see if I still the gobs I've made. Great job btw, I am certainly checking this out.

I've been re-playing Dark Forces this week, and it's still a classic. Way aged now, but I guess you just got to appreciate having grown up with it.

That said, I never really liked the idea of porting it over to JK2/JKA.

The gunplay in these game engines just sucks. They're built for saber combat. It's in the little animations and effects when your blaster shoots, when enemies are hit, even the accuracy cone the weapons use. They just feel way more powerful and satisfying in the original game.

Final release is coming, I'm pretty sure. Looking at the progress and reading the latest info. He said the final release shouldn't be released later than the end of the year. So, don't think it's abandoned.

WTF, There is NO WAY in hell this will ready by the end of the year, not a chance.

Its 35 % complete and thats taken 5 years to do.

He's also looking for work after completing his studies at uni so dont expect this to be out for atleast another 3-3 years.

Don't 4get to try out Movie Duels 2 if you haven't already as its VERY nice indeed.

i am haveing problems geting the mod to work i draged it to the base folder and it just loads the mod when i load up ja and when i go to start the mission it just goes back to the main menue and it doe that with all mods

The readme tells you the path you have to set after you make a shortcut to jasp. If I had it installed again I would've gladly been able to help get it to work properly

In the few short years that the mod scene has been around, I've watched dozens of large projects like this fizzle out and get abandoned. The ones that actually get finished are the rare exception.

I'd love to see this mod finished, I've just been disappointed too many times before to truly get my hopes up.

I think some people need to realize that you can't apply this mod to the original Dark Forces game in order to play this souped up version. You need Jedi Academy, which is obviously a completely different game. Utilizing the graphics engine of Jedi Academy, you can play this improved version of Dark Forces via mod, but only if you have Jedi Academy.

i dont know if you are familiar with playing the original dark forces but after watching this i must ask: did they keep all the secrets in the mod?

if so, where is the switch that opens the giant gate in the courtyard in this level? i know that the door to get in is in a cave that you hop to from the roof top, but i cant remember how to open the door.

Afaik yes the secrets are still there however each level has been redone and its slightly different design of the original DF levels

by actual game if you mean this then if you had Jedi Academy then I'd suggest to download this mod. However if you have a copy of the original Dark Forces there is an engine remake in the works that is available at DF-21

Great game that was. I've a got all the dark forces/jedi knight games (including mysteries of the sith) and they're all superb. I love the fact that they're all set in the expanded universe. Kyle Katurn is completely a construct of the video games but has been accepted into the Star Wars lore.

I think they have done a real great job on remaking every level available in the current demo the only things that bug me is in 4 - 6 where you have insane sized door ._. I mean in the original they were usually the same size as Kyle but when you play the mod holy crap. Still an excellent mod worth playing.
