  • thanks for subtitles)))

  • cool gadget .. nice one .. :)

  • Great informative video.. It would be HELLA better if it DID NOT have all those BOB SAGGETESC "JOKES"... They fall Flat

  • glad to see IBM has some humor

  • omg is that the guy from the colony??!!!

  • @AseroThe3rd Jeah

  • This isn't mad science, this is just an example of how things should work anyway everywhere.

  • 1:40 -- "this intellegence stuff." damn that guy isnt smart

  • Excellent!

  • Lots of akward silences in this video. Hahaha!

  • What's the "my mom's from Cleveland" joke?

  • @mimzyps29 He tried to make a joke about not listening to the other guy... Awful.

  • @mimzyps29

It's not a not listening joke.

It's an I can't hear shit in this noise joke, and I found it funny, actually.

  • I'm pretty interested, but I rated the video 0 stars when they made that "my mom's from cleveland" joke. Absolutely terrible.

  • @neelshiv you are a stupid idiot.

  • So jokes are more important to you?

  • @diclofenako

    Exactly my point, man.

  • @melektawus

    agreed.

    @artifactingreality

    twit.

  • I don't have any "giant air handling units" in my house.

so you can take your smart grid and shove it.

  • what do you have in your house that you don't mind being automatically turned on and off whenever the power company wants/needs.

    .... nothing. correct?

It's all very well the power company being able to schedule your washing machine, but you still have to put clothes in the damn machine, and you still need to know by what time they will be washed.

And the washing machine is perhaps the only device they could control anyway. Do you want them to control your fridge or computer? Don't say yes.

  • stumbled from houston

  • that guy was on that experiment show on the discovery channel

  • Stumbled in from Germany

  • Stumbled in from Chicago... pretty cool stuff!

  • This guy seems like he has good intentions but the government will use smart grid technology to regulate power consumption because we can't build nuclear reactors and electric cars are going to eventually eat up a ton of the existing output, so no thanks.

  • no doubt u are correct

  • i like this! even if its not the big picture its SOMETHiNG

  • where the hell did he get 75% from? If your going to put out numbers don't make them up.

  • This doesn't limit consumer power or say they you can't use power. The electric companies designed their systems to handle more than peak power. If you'd actually watch the video, you'd learn that all that happens is the electric company PAYS corporations to not use as much electricity during peak hours by shutting down non-essential equipment. NOT consumers. That way the electric company can provide cheaper electricity to the masses, reducing their operation costs and also saving on pollution.

  • Lightning with a fork is certainly cool, but I can't help but feel that John should've not held the fork with his left hand. If, for any reason, that nice grounding wire disconnected, the shortest path from the Van de Graff to ground would travel through his heart, which could be dangerous...

  • JOHN C IS A BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that is the John Cohn from The Colony, isn't it? Loved that guy!

  • My city has smart grid. Its pretty awesome.

  • just bring in the TESLA D:

  • This is unnecessary. People pay for a product. If you cannot deliver a reliable product, then find a more efficient or better way to deliver it. You don't start by punishing your customers for your incompetence. The so-called "smart grid" is amazingly stupid.

There is enough technology and resources to do this without punishing people. Give power companies an INCENTIVE to think of a better way, rather than nothing but stupid punishments.

  • Honestly, load shedding is not the way. I mean come on, why do I have to lose my power because some idiot deems it necessary? I am paying for my power and I don't want it cut off. The next thing they are going to say is that in the middle of 110 F temperatures I am suppose to turn off my AC. Screw that. The answer must be to deliver more power(increase efficiency), or upgrade the grid to accommodate more people (increased generation).

  • I would hazard a guess that there is no "the way." Just a lot of little ones.

  • This is like stopping the heart to fix the bleeding out of a gaping wound.

Personally, I'd like to generate my own power, but naturally I'd be punished for that too. The 600 pound gorilla in the room would be nuclear, but that would be too smart. No letting some other jackass decide how much power you get is preferable in these idiot's minds.

  • John C is a brilliant mind!

  • i think that's a common sense decision. don't tell me that the current plants are built this way.

  • I can see how simple measures using the smart grids can really assist the problem of lowering peak usage but I can also see how this can become a very complex problem for future engineering design in the near future better start training more adequate engineers right now ready.
