  • Where do you get a drift punch? also - is it okay to use Russian Steel ammo?

  • This gun has never jammed with the 500 federal rounds ive ran through it but tulammo sucks dont bui it

  • He went a little too fast when taking the rifle apart in this video.

  • Well,i am thinking you should not have to clean it that often anyway LOL!! Phillips Screwdriver on triggerguard works great to take down!!Very similiar to M1A!Have A Great Day!!

  • such a pain in the ass to field strip a shame... cant find a decent alternative to an ar..

  • @slcslobalt Keltec SU-16?

  • All you thinking you'll have trouble. The M1 in WWII and Korea and the M14 used later were taken apart and put back together blindfolded. This rifle is very similar to those. You'll get this one figured out in no time if you try.

  • @AngeredKabar Except the gas block, which is normally removable with a wrench on a Garand or M14.

  • I would like to commend you on making a helpful, logical, straight forward track video. I just starting watching lots of Youtube videos in connection to various weapons I own, so that I can disassemble and clean them. When I watched other folks video, they go on and on and labor a simple point, and take what should be a 3 minute video, into an 8 minute video. After viewing many videos, I had to come back and thank you for understanding how to correctly make an instructional video. Thank you!!!

  • It has half of the moving parts as the m16 I love this gun.

  • Anders B. Breivik liked this video, no joke...

  • Apparently it's a good "idear" to clean and inspect the magazines periodically.

  • My father passed away recently & owned a Ranch Rifle. I'm used to a 1903 A4 Springfield, & quite honestly this looks a bit complex to me. I'm skeptical that this needs to be done after every use (which is what I normally do w/my Springfield). It seems to me that a simple bore/receiver cleaning should be adequate as SOP with a full field strip several times a year. 'Course following the Ruger recommended cleaning protocol is probably a good idea. Hopefully there's a "Re-assembling" video.

  • This guy is so awkward

  • @Pill88Dickle If you want to, be my guest, more power to ya. I don't tell people what they can, can't should or shouldn't do with their firearms.

  • I love my mini. Tried to turn it tactical but it was an epic fail. Check out my video about it if you want

  • @Pill88Dickle There you go again with the "should"... no YOU should. I'll stick with one, maybe two. My bolt actions don't have detachable mags at all, what do you think of THAT?

P.S. I get what you're saying. Ruger mags ARE very expensive, and this argument doesn't matter at all.

  • @Pill88Dickle ar's are aluminum and direct impingement. maybe that's why ppl want a mini 14 because they want a gas piston steel gun.

  • @Pill88Dickle Why do I have to get 6 mags? I don't think I need that many... therefore I wont.

  • One more reason to spend a little bit more cash and buy an AR, these look like a nightmare to fieldstrip and clean.

  • @TonyInTopeka Very simple actually. They will also eat any .223 or 5.56 ammo and never jam. Mine does anyway.

  • @TonyInTopeka What is it with you AR guys always feeling the need to troll Mini-14 videos to tell people to "buy an AR dude." Are you lacking something in your lives? Are you suffering from some complex? As a proud owner of a 580 series Mini-14, I can tell you that they're FAR easier to field strip and clean than an AR. If a person has a problem breaking down a Mini, then they don't need to be dealing with firearms. This gentleman is just going slow so new owners can get a better look.

  • @Mainsail76 They're lacking the 2 grand they dropped on the AR, and need to reassure themselves it was money well spent by talking down to people who own Mini's, AK's, etc. It's pathetic.

  • @Mainsail76

I just watched this vid and the 1st thing I noticed was: "wtf this gun is a sophisticated puzzle in terms of maintanence!" Don`t get me wrong, it loos like a great rifle with tripple a archievements in the fields it got marketed for, but nevertheless I used quite some AR/Carbines which were much easier to strip, clean and maintain then this babe. Which AR are you relating to in your post?

  • @Mainsail76 umm.. your wrong. No other way to say it. You are clearly biased. While it is a fine carbine, This gun is clearly more complicated to take apart than an AR. I do think it would be more reliable than an AR.

FYI: I am not an AR fan. I would not spend money to buy one. Too many jams in the desert.

  • @frankgon4

I just got through torturing my used 181 series Mini 14 over 600 rnds (all brass case ammo) ZERO Malfunctions all I have done is cleaned the fouling out of the barrel every hundred rounds give or take. I'm going to clean it tonight its earned its reliability badge for me and its also became one of my favorite guns to shoot.

  • @prescotian1500 LOL, that is not torture per my definition. That is standard use. It is a great SWAT rifle. It is a great Urban Rifle. No problems in that Philosophy of use. It is an outstanding rifle as long as you are able to care for it. I do not like it for long term combat operations. It absolutely cannot handle Sand environments where you do not have the time or environment to baby this rifle. 100 rounds in combat is merely 4 magazines during a battle.

  • @TonyInTopeka

Just buy an AK, and all these problems go away.

  • what a mess, this is for routine cleaning?? whatever happened to just cleaning out the bore and oiling it up...

  • I love these tech tip videos. Could you please make them into pod cast videos.

  • Got mine for $475 a couple years ago before it became "the" alternative to an AR-15.

  • Thanks to all the AR people for bringing their helpful insights, that is very considerate. Thanks for taking time out of your busy day to do that.

  • Now try to break it down with a scope mounted. lol!! The low mounts shipped with the rifle make it almost impossible to get the bolt out as you can't angle it properly and forget about taking off the handguard. Stick with an AR - user friendly and more accurate for the money.

  • wait... what?

  • @Mhabalzizhari

Really? Was it used, or did you seriously get it ordered from the factory by your local FFL for that price? The MSRP on the website is almost $900 now and everything I've read lately says that's the going price now for a factory new Mini.

  • @HazMatMedia they have them at walmart for like $600 with the wood stock.

  • @DarthMink Really? Wow is this the new generation? I want a .223 it is either this or a Ruger Hawkeye. I recently bought the Ruger GSR (.308) & love it <3

  • The only conceivable gripe I have about the Mini, as I love it, is that it is waaaay to expensive for what it is. $800 is a ridiculous going price.

  • Thanks

  • I will never again complain about the M16 being a pain in the ass to takedown ever again. Now if only the same could be said for reliability.

  • The AR-15 is easier to clean than this, you only have to yank out 4 parts in the AR ;)

  • @TheQuestenberg But you have to clean an AR 10 times as often.

  • Ah, I see said the blind man, seeing this makes the text version in the manual clear. The "nomenclature" of parts needs to be understood to use the text version

  • The more I see of the Mini, the more I like it.

  • I'm going to get an Arsenal SGL21 but since 5.56/.223 ammo is plentiful I will get a mini-14 tactical in case of a bad situation

  • @Wabaanimkii I'm going for a SGL 31. It may be a bit more expensive than the 21, but you can buy surplus 5.45x39 for about eleven cents per round if you know where to look. It's corrosive, but at that price it's worth a little extra TLC.

  • @Composer1777 Ok, thanks for the info! I'll look into it

  • @Composer1777 What about a used one?

  • How much would a mini-14 run up?

  • I think this was a nicely done video, but on a personal level I need it to be fed to me much more slowly. But that's just me.

  • in my experience taking the rifle apart is one thing, reassembling it is the hard part lol

  • A really helpful vid...the best on youtube. Thanks fellas

  • @SPARTAN1T Yes....=]

  • Looks easy!

Shame I can't buy a great Ruger product in Europe...

  • Great takedown video. I anticipate using the pause button frequently.

  • These Tech Tip videos are great, but I wish he'd slow down a bit.

  • I can't believe I've been doing it the hard way for ten years now. I feel dumb. Thanks Ruger! This video helped a lot.

  • How were you doing it? As for myself, I've never done a full field strip like in this video. I was scared that I would never be able to put it back to together again. This video helped me big time.

  • Hey that's Eckhart Tolle, the dude who wrote "The Power of Now" didn't know who worked for Ruger, didn't know he was a gun enthusiast.

  • @HowThaWestWasWon WHAT? no man its most definately not

  • Thank God! I took mine apart and would have a basket of Ruger 14 parts without this video.

  • Awesome demonstration! Thanks!

  • Why not? It's got similar reliability and range to the SKS...I'd say if you have one, it'd make as good a weapon as an AK or SKS would.

That said, if you're starting from scratch, an SKS is probably a better choice simply due to cost.

  • what's the safety doing off indoors in the first place

  • THANKYOU BROTHER

  • i'm 13 and i can disassemble it

  • Mmmmmmm yea I take that a part and its going to be a night full of me saying........ OOOO WTF.

  • It's really not that hard at all. You'll get the hang of it after diving into it. If nothing else, you can always make note cards and them down to your work bench for each step until you have it down by heart.

  • lol I feel the same way. I haven't done a full field strip like that on my Mini 14 yet.

It looks scary, but I will have to give it a go sometime.

  • Awesome video. Very helpful.

  • JEsus lol, i was with you part of the way, but now im scared to take mine afart for fear of messing something up

  • Compared to an AR15 is is FAR easier to disassemble.

  • I'd trust a ruger to get the job done at any time day night rain snow or shine

  • Looks intimidating at first, but after watching a few times you pick it up fast.

    Great job Ruger!

  • Very informative. I will recommend this video to others. Thanks for keeping this video simple.
