The guys definitely talented but not all of us bass players are into slapping, I don't care for the tone of a slapped bass at all to be honest. Its the fat jamerson type sound that I get off on.

I'm not saying i don't like the sound, cuz i like a whole lot more than just metallica, I'm just saying that the band allows him little freedom on all of the actual cuts. There's no reason that with that talent he shouldn't rip through the whole thing, but he doesn't. I've only got one cd, so they may have let him doodle around more, but i think it's a shame that he gets his fame popping eighths like so many untalented bassists do.

dude, i've been to a couple shows and i understand how much he does to lead the band. Yet on recordings and such, which everone can listen to, he basically does nothing, i'm not trying to be offensive, i'm just saying that he deserves more respect then he's getting overall, he's one of my heroes and yet most level 42 fans i know don't even know what instrument he plays. I think this solo is the best of Mr.King. Not only fast slapping but making tight harmony...it's different from other well-known solos.
