I'm amazed that so few fans liked this game. It was a creative remake, although nothing like the first game and didn't get the same feeling or symbolism it was still scary and had a well developed story. I would honestly prefer the hate to be directed more toward Homecoming or the new Downpour.

For instance, the mementos and connections to other objects astray from the groggy atmosphere of the original all had their own backstory, making the feel and playstyle feel alien from it's roots. Final Fantasy doesn't suffer as much since one of it's core basics from the beginning has been "creativity" meaning in essence, it's given more leway in terms of sequels.

Well it still has something to do with exploring or discovering your memories. SH1 was more concentrated on finding Cheryl and discovery the mistery of the town, SH3 was more about revenge (Heather's story does touch on remembering her past, but it wasn't what the story was about). SH4 was about trying to get out of a nightmare. The point of making sequels with characters who aren't neciassily related to the original characters is to create different stories.

SH2 portrays the town as a kind of Purgatory the characters go through. The story's main themes, I feel, are redemption and forgiveness.

The Silent Hill in SM is a fantasy world where its creator's dead father is the hero she believes he was. The story's main themes are grief and moving forward.

Also, to be honest, I like the ties made to a character's issues than someone saying "a cult did it."

Certainly, Shattered Memories was good game, but it wasn't very good Silent Hill game.
