I have been trying buy this song of Burl Ives and did not think of YouTube.It is not included in any of his many recordings.

I am so pleased that you have posted it.It is a beautiful song sung by a great man with a great interpretative voice.He was so often heard in our home in the late 40's and onwards.This is a true gem and thanks again.

Well, yes, I'm reaching somewhat, which is why I said "hinted". But it seems to be clearly implied that she "just wasted away" because her parents were keeping her from seeing Burl. Add to that that she's apparently a rich or at least middle-class girl (they get anorexia more often) and anorexia makes sense. What else does?
