these Elton shows ROCKED!! In his day he put on the best concerts, unbelievable piano player!! Unfortunately today's shows lack much of that intensity... I saw him this past March (2011) at Madison Square Garden and it was a far cry from his concerts i saw at MSG in 1976. He looks and sounds old now... not the same anymore!!
these shows were great...i was there when they came to the states...elton was at his peak and he'd rip the roof off the arena...the thing was that over three hours he'd rock he'd sing ballads...pop, rock, country, r&b...he had it all..and he wrote this stuff and had the voice...i marvelled at him and the band...you'd leave the arena shaking your head...thinking how talented he was...nowadays they have katy perry and lil wayne...imposters
@SkunkDroppings Wish I could have see these early shows but I was too young and saw him only on TV. Growing up around classical piano players, he made the piano much more fun.
Bernie Taupin wrote all the lyrics to these songs, Elton the music. Elton said they never worked together in the same room...he'd give Bernie the music and then Bernie would come up w/ lyrics, say, for this song. Think about that. One of the best writing duos ever, I think.
@SkunkDroppings It's the passion. You don't see many bands play their hearts out anymore. Sure, there are acts like Iron Maiden that still play like they're 20, and Pete Townshend can windmill like a motherfucker in his 60s, but there just aren't enough musicians that get up on stage and perform as if their life depended on it. People need to get out there that really care about the music they're playing and play it. More than play it. They need to blow the roof off with it.
@JCE1972 He's like that in a video of Eric Clapton and a bunch of other people playing live on Layla. He was givin' it on the Gong. At least I think it was him
@xKinseh If I'm thinking what you are that other performance was in 87 after his throat surgery. He was obviouisly coked up and his voice was still healing but he sang his ass off!
are you an idiot? were you in honolulu, hawaii on 1/9/10? i was! you know who else was? elton john...and ray cooper. performing live. kinda hard to do a show when youre dead.
appart from the studio recording this is the only version I like, fast, people jumping. It's a spong that requires so much energy to be interpreted. other wise it sounds lousy
Sexual orientation has nothing to do with the ultimate talent Elton John displays!!! he puts on one of the best shows I've ever seen, and I've been to hundreds!! Long live the Queen!!!!!
if you're going to make a dumbass joke like that, you should probably know how lame it sounds when you reference someone so obscure that you have to draw it out to explain who they are.
kinda like if i said "hey, you're as stupid as larry linville, the guy who played frank burns on mash"
awesome stuff
