  • I find this endlessly fascinating. That our last glimpse of Joan is on Video..the modern media.and she makes a fabulous exit via the elevator. x

  • The icons left a few years ago. No more originals anywhere you look.

  • The Icons such as this woman are slowly going away, And what are we left with then. (

  • She is so right. And guess what...they still don't write for ladies and we are still here. There's only been a slight difference but it is still about the young and nubile females that get used up by the time they are 27.

  • This is amazing footage. Thank you for posting this.

  • if u need a liver transplant don't get it from hollywood stars. their livers are so diseased from the constant drinking. and what ever else they can dabble in. not to mention the fatty foods and steaks...i would get a liver from a commoner first.

  • @sweetkittytwine An ignorant and prejudicial comment.

  • @sweetkittytwine Some people may not like your comment, but in all honesty, I am not so sure you are far from the truth.

  • LOL!!! she's SMASHED!!

  • Aw, bless her heart! Joan was still looking towards that marvellous future with all its endless possibilities! This is what kept her going - and endlessly fascinating besides! After all, wasn't she the gal with the gams, guys, and gun? LOL (!) we should all be so lucky.

  • She was Flawed in such a perfect way. shes a battler, nothing was given to her on a plate. thats why I love her.

  • The Ultimate Megastar.... she wrote the book baby

  • kind of eerie how the doors close at the very end..

  • Joan looked stunning !!!

  • she was lying she had no "movie" in europe to do. she was washed up!!

  • what a horrible interviewer!

  • i think she was wearing this same outfit when still photo (shot from unflattering angle shooting upward) got out...roz russell convinced her she really looked that way and she said she'd never go out again.

  • "DONT FUCK WITH ME BOOOYYS!"

  • @MegaGum1 Lmao!

  • there aren't enough words to describe how much I love her! in this video she was almost 70 and she was still full of life and humor talking not about her glamorous past but the future! she was great!!! Rip Joan Crawford

  • thanks for this! R.I.P Miss Joan

  • "Poor Joan"??? The woman was nearly 70 and had the life most of us can only dream of. She was a true survivor!

  • Blanche Deveraux's husband! lol

  • What a lovely lady

  • very interesting to see...and George Grizzard, very cool!

  • @grigsey83 I'm glad I wasn't the only one to notice George Grizzard, another late, great actor.

  • thanks crawfordfan!!! i really enjoy your video posts. joan enthralls me. my favourite is the david frost interview. i love this one too

  • Wow, she really notices the lighting on the cameraman, a true actress always knows where her light is

  • Too bad she doesn't seem happy here at around the same age like Elizabeth taylor!

  • Aw she seems so alert here but a litle sad and tired. I don't think she was alive much long after this. God bless Miss Crawford

  • She seems alert and in very good spirits. I don't know what 'Jacko32' is seeing and hearing. Perhaps he is projecting? And 'SantamonicaIcigargirl4life', it was right around this time that Crawford quit drinking, in fact.

  • What a woman!

  • Wow! This is great! Thanks for posting this! This captures a lot about this remarkable woman! Even the silent section!

  • Seems like Joan is drunk here...my Dad would slur like that too lol. It's all good, I still love Joan!

  • Joan Crawford a true classy woman to the last footage of her life.

  • <3

  • she just seems so worn out here and a sad soul who comes across like it was her last life out of 9 . Typical Joan but a touch lighter than usual and from what u saw in older interviews.

  • Im convinced Joan put miracle grow in her eyebrows. There is just no other explanation XD!!!

  • I love that her voice never changed :P

  • Kathy Bates is another good actress of our time. I agree they are few and far between but we still have a few good ones. Hollywood is just not what is used to be tho. I agree!

  • So it was after seeing this footage that Joan said"If that's the way look on film, then you won't be seeing me anymore", that she really meant it and lived the rest of her life as a recluse?

  • Shes about 70 here- I think she looks great- a little "buzzed" from the party- but still looks great. Godspeed Joan.

  • she was funny. I wish i could have met her.

  • what are you doing with that Sony thing..............and no light?

  • i always found her a facinating creature the way she moved and how her eyes carried...i dont care what anyone says about her..angelina jolie isnt worthy of shinning joan crawfords shoes..jennifer aniston? She plays the same ditzy blubbly dumb chracter in ALL her movies thats not acting, thats riding a type casted wave with out risk and taking a check smiling thanks very much...I want to see power..I want to be moved..its time for a change and if my comments are seen retro so be it.

  • She makes a good point. That was a terrible era in film (1970s) for female leads.

  • @MegaFunMovies Right, except for Liza Minnelli, Jill Clayburgh, Ellen Burstyn, and Diane Keaton, can't really think of many up-and-coming American film actresses who were exceptionally talented in that era. From Europe, of course Vanessa and Lynn Redgrave, and Maggie Smith, some others.

  • @MegaFunMovies Today there are even fewer, Meryl Streep, and Kathleen Turner the best of the bunch, though neither are exactly A-list anymore.

I am not a fan of Angelina Jolie, nor of Julia Roberts, so maybe Lili Taylor and Gwyneth Paltrow would be the better of younger actresses.

  • @gymnastix what about Reese Witherspoon?

  • @tarathetarantula Right, I forgot about her. I actually like Reese Witherspoon, and she has a flair for comedy that makes her more versatile than merely straight dramatic. I guess it could be said Witherspoon is rather like a Carole Lombard, Janet Leigh or Donna Reed of today--pretty, and capable of playing it straight or doing lighter/comedic roles.

For that matter, speaking of Leigh, Jamie Lee Curtis is a good actress too.

  • @tarathetarantula Witherspoon was quite good in "Pleasantville," and stole the show in "Election." I am not a fan of the "Legally Blonde" franchise. But that is no fault of Witherspoon's--a paycheck is a paycheck.

I must still see the Johnny Cash biopic that, I think, won Witherspoon an Oscar, for her portrayal of June Carter Cash. I think better casting than Joacquin/"Leaf" Phoenix could have been done for the lead. But I am a fan of Cash's music, so will see it anyway.

  • @tarathetarantula But none of these actresses of today, not even Meryl Streep or Vanessa Redgrave (who I would place in the "Next to the Best" category, in the very good company of such actresses as Vivien Leigh, Rosalind Russell, and Barbara Stanwyck), may hold a candle to Bette Davis, or Katherine Hepburn, in my opinion. They were, and always will be, the very best of "The Best."

  • Thank you for this wonderful clips. Miss Crawford looked fantastic and her remarks are sharp as ever. What a class, style and talent this lady had! She was a great artist, a beautiful woman and a kind human being. What an extraordinary lady. God Bless Her!!! And thanks again for these clips.

  • we need someone who can lip read to get the lst couple seconds!!

  • @windstorm1000 ..... she said in the 1st couple of seconds.. "TEEEEENNNNAAA where's my DRINK!?!?!??"

  • Thanks for uploading! This was a treat.

  • Always THE movie star! Love you Joan!

  • One of Joan's first silent films was titled,"Tramp Tramp Tramp." It seems odd that she chose to adopt children, but then she did not want to risk losing her looks as so many women do after they give birth. This clip truly is historic film footage because when she saw a pic of herself and Rosalind Russell in the newspaper at this event she vowed to never again be seen in public. R.I.P. Joan and thanks for all the great films that you left for future generations of gays to worship!

  • A big fan of hers. Back in the 20's and 30's and early 40's she was an unrivalled beauty.

"Grand Hotel", "Humoresque", "Mannequin" and "The Unknown" "This Modern Age:...so many wonrdeful works.

    Thanks for posting!

  • Christina is a coward, indeed. At Joan's funeral, Myrna Loy refused to speak to Christina...and that was before the book! A good friend of mine lived with Christina for a while and is still in contact. I actually have her personal email address. She holds some public office in Colorado.

  • Thanks for this. I had a chance to meet Crawford. My older brother's ad agency had the Pepsi account in Houston. When they opened the new bottling plant, Crawford came in for the opening, along with Jeannie C. Riley, fresh from her big hit "Harper Valley PTA". I tagged along with my brother that day..I was about 11 or 12. At the end of the day, my brother told me that Crawford and Riley were about to leave, and there was only time to meet one.. foolishly I chose Riley. Christina....

  • I love J.C., she totally pimped Pepsi every chance she got. I have a mother who was/is "off" like Ms. Crawford....no verbal or physical abuse as a child, just a mother who is very selfish... I don't have to like her, but I love her anyway. I do not blame my parents - been away and an adult longer than I experienced the selfishness as a child. Move on, let-go, forgive your parents & yourselves. Not saying forget or have them in your lives. Live today, yesterday is gone. And I believe Tina!

  • I love JC, she totally pimped Pepsi every chance she got. I have a mother who was/is "off" like Ms. Crawford....no verbal or physical abuse as a child, just a mother who is very selfish... I don't have to like her, but I love her anyway. I do not blame my parents - been away and an adult longer than I experienced the selfishness as a child. • Pepsi Cola owe Joan Crawford the success they have today. I always buy Pepsi thanks to Joan.

  • Funny how Joan's other daughters have nothing but praise for their mother. Christina Crawford is a coward who waited 'till her mother was dead to publish her book. I have no respect for a person like that.

  • And where were those friends when she was wasting away in her Manhattan apartment, eaten by the cancer and alcoholism that she refused to share with her "great friends"? Some friends. And 'll gladly consider the view of that "other daughter" who showed courage in exposing the abuse behind the facade, Truth over nostalgia any day!. The only way to truly honor Joan Crawford is to embrace her entire life, good and bad, happy and sad. To do less robs her of being human. Hell with stardom!

  • It's nice to see George Grizzard. A fine actor. Take Care, Buddy.

  • This is captivating in the extreme...a great lady...you can feel the great charm and the unbelievable personal charisma...shame the sound has gone at the end but what a fascinating glimpse. There is something unearthly about it...like the a sighting of a last unicorn perhaps...and as the elevator doors close...gone forever...but never forgotten x

  • Whatever one thinks about Crawford, you feel looking at this and other 70's talk shows, tht she came to terms with her life near the end of it. I think she's at peace here--yeah, maybe a little tanked up but she deserves a drink.

  • Note the way she brusquely ignores the questioner, interrupting their session with various shout outs to other guests. She was not happy being interviewed, clearly.

A nasty, sad woman. Someone posted that she died a sad death. I'd add that she was born sad, lived sad and died sad, and brought a great deal of sadness to those she knew personally, while a great deal of happiness to those she never knew. A strange life, a strange woman, maybe even a tragic woman.

  • @MrBadguitar I suppose you knew her well to make these exaggerated comments.

  • @MrBadguitar- note that she was the HOSTESS that evening- it was her job to be greeting people. it wasn't like she was going out of her way to be rude. And she brought sadness to everyone she knew? I'm sure that would be news to the many friends who she loved & was loved by through the years (Cesar Romero, Myrna Loy, etc), not to mention her daughters Cindy & Cathy. Sounds like you're basing your whole point on what the OTHER daughter had to say. You know, the one who was cut out of the will...

  • Yea this was the last event she attended because the pictures that she saw the next day in the papers she claimed made her look horrible. "She said if she looks like that then they will never see her again!

  • She's great but you can tell she's buzzed up and this two years before she was getting ready to croak

  • was the movie she was going to make TROG

  • @MyGward No... Trog was made in 1972... This appearance at the Rainbow Room (a gathering in honor of Roz Russell) was 74... the film she speaks of here was never made.

  • "To Christina with love, Mommie Dearest," you will never be the star or actress I am.

  • Yes. She is a bit tipsy. But I think from the early 50s on Joan struggled with alcoholism. Miss Crawford lived a very solitary life. She was entirely self-made and had innate talent and natural beauty. I don't think she left this world very happy. And for that I feel great sadness. She was among Hollywood's early greats.

  • Aw that was wonderful to see/hear! I've never heard/seen Joan so casual. Really great to see her comfortabley chatting to people, joking and greeting guests. She usually looks really tense in interviews.

  • @je1rowe She looks great here and probably a bit tipzy but who cares.

  • i beleive this is when a picture of her and rosalind russel was taken and she saw it and said "If thats the way i looki then they'l never see me again'

  • This was very interesting to see. I saw the photos of Miss Crawford from this event . She wore a simple, red gown but, I felt that her necklace and earrings did not accompany it well. Something less ornate would have made a better impression. Also, her wig was not fitted and styled appropriately. It seemed to be somewhat crooked. The wig she wore in THE SIXTH SENSE was quite becoming on her. If she had worn that one, she would have come across much more favorably in the photos.

  • I WORK AND WORK TILL I'M HALF DEAD AND I HEAR PEOPLE SAYING "SHE'S GETTING OLD"! AND WHAT DO I GET? A DAUGHTER WHO CARES AS MUCH ABOUT ME AS THE DRESSES I GIVE HER! WHAT'S WIRE HANGERS DOING IN THIS CLOSET? ANSWER ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • She was sharp and witty and funny....and she left too soon....

  • wow!!!!

  • is that corey hay sticking that mike in joan's face?

  • This is fantastic!

  • I've never seen footage of her post 1968. Fascinating lady.

  • WOW. the audio vanishes towards the end. She started in the silent era and her last known video footage ends in silence....

  • Comment removed

  • @greatguy1001 Holy cow you're right!!

  • WOW. the audio vanishes towards the end. She started in the silent era and and her last known video footage ends in silence....

  • Thank u! Never seen footage of this. She would be gone only 3 years later. She was so sweet and friendly too!

  • i can't believe you posted this!!!! incredible!

for years all we've had from this night are the photos. I just knew from the media presence there had to be footage. & it proves what has long been reported- she was positively radiant that night. Amazing that this charming, vibrant woman would retreat rfrom the spotlight, never to be seen again.

PS- that is George Grizzard she's greeting! noted stage & TV actor- he played George Devereaux (Blanche's late husband) on the Golden Girls.

  • Thank you!!!! She is amazing!!!!

  • If only that horrible photo hadn't been published! As one can tell in this footage, she still looked great! How sad to think that such a long and glorious career ended with this.

  • WOW! Thank you so much for this, TheCrawfordFan! I never expected to see this and as always, I'm deeply touched by Joanie-what a sweetheart...

  • WOW! What a rare and special treat -thanks for posting.

  • Yes it is sad, though I'm glad she had the choice to not be photographed again, not like today where the paps will haunt you and track you down like a dog. As this clip shows, she looked wonderful yet the photograph from this event that made the newspaper made her look scary. Viva La Crawford!!!

  • It's sad to think that this wonderful lady would never be seen in public again

  • Is she drunk here?

  • whoa "great" vids 11 out uf 10
