I remember "Wipeout". This show used to be on WNBC-TV (channel 4) back in around 1988 or 1989 when it was in the wee hours of the morning which was around 2 AM or 3 AM.
That's a good question! Maybe the folks working at Wheel thought the technology wasn't yet available for them on the puzzle board, or they might have thought that it was too expensive. That's just my assumption, but who knows? Hope this helps. ;)
I believe channel 5 in Washington, DC (WTTG-TV, Fox) aired the show around the time I was in the second and third grade. I used to own the version for the Apple IIc computer.
I saw the program on that channel as well. I thought it was okay, in general, but I really liked Press Your Luck. USA also had that show as well. That channel had lots of great game shows in their afternoon lineup. But some of these shows are not seen much anymore.

Is this version like "The Race Game" on The Price Is Right?

Although Maggie found the 6 correct answers, they still played the music as if she ran out of time

Why did Wheel of Fortune wait so long to implement a board like this? This is obviously way before 1997!

Kinda-sorta, except you find everything in a given category, instead of matching the prices to their prizes...
