Good job and informative video. I've never used a drawing tablet but I enjoy drawing as a hobby. Do you have to have an advance knowledge of computers in order to operate the Cintiq?
@mag9671 it's paint but it's digital, you'll need some training to get a little bit used to the pointing interface between classic and digital on a cintiq, but if you can paint it's minimal.. forget it if you only know how to sketch, you can use it for sketching like you would sketch with watercolors. there is no sence to use it like a pencil tool in the 1000 sensitivity levels models, and i guess it's not much of a diffrence in the new 2000 level models.
I wanted to ask your opinion, since you seem very sensible about all this. Can I go wrong with getting the 21ux over the 24HD? And does that screen blurriness(from the protective glass) impede the quality of your work at all? I like the abitility to rotate the 21ux (even if you can rotate the image...rotating the moniter is important to me) but will I loose anything with that product?
Thank you very much for this informitive review, I enjoyed it and learned from it.
what is the best resolution to work at. I have tried 300 dpi and the line edges are not so smooth. 600 is better but the file sizes start to get very large. What's the best balance?
Thats a damn good review.. I have a little problem with my Cintiq 24HD:
I cannot get the Brush Size mod. to work with both the left and right touch weel.. That is really annoying for me, and it is the only feature which does'nt work.. all the other express keys does work.. Im using a macbook pro with Photoshop CS4.. please help.. ( anyone ) ??
I started watching this for the product in review, but then I noticed your fifth element tats, and stopped concentrating on the rest of the review... THAT IS SO DAMN COOL!
Dude great Vid .... what was the name of the smaller one you have there? and is it worth getting?? Also is it better to do 3D on tablets or regular desktop with monitor? TY
I've never used an art tablet b4 I'm not a professional period but I do love to draw. Is the cintiq too much equipment for a noob to handle? Or should I just settle for the XL intruos?
I'm really glad that you covered the range of mobility in the Cintiq's arms, it makes me feel more confident in my decision to purchase it. In many of the reviews I've seen for the Cintiq artists have their hands extended at an awkward position that I can only assume after time, the lack of blood flow would make it impossible to work for long periods of times. This is something I was worried about, but thank you for explaining it more clearly. :)
Just ordered and paid for the Cintiq 24HD. Now waiting for it to come....>3< 2-3 of weeks waiting......urgh.
I know using another monitor is necessary for checking for pixels and all but can you use the cintiq alone for desktop purposes? Sounds stupid yes, but never used cintiq before.
I'm considering getting one of these, but I need to know one thing: How well does the 24HD work with using Adobe Flash? Are there any known problems specifically with using the 24HD and Flash? This is mainly the reason why I want a 24HD because I'm a Flash Designer/Animator. I see the screen as massive room for animating and I personally think that this piece of kit would help me tremendously. Also, how about other Adobe products such as Dreamweaver?
Excellent review mate, I am so interesting in buying one, just the keyboard thing and the size of the muther holds me back, so I guess a 21ux might be another alternative, I just wonder if you have ever used a 21ux and how it compares.
is that glove you wear on your right hand a good item to protect the screen or something? if so does it worth and where to find it? thx for the cool review very funny ;-)
One more question. I'm not sure whether I should buy the Cintiq 21ux or the Intuos4 Large. I've heard that the intuos is better because it's less obstructive and all around better, but I dont like the idea of not looking at what I'm actually drawing. I've so so things about the Cintiq, but I here it's pretty awesome. I'm leaning towards the Intuos4, but I'm still not sure.
@kevin71127 I'm not sure who's telling you that the Intuos4 is "all around better" than a Cintiq. I get the feeling that people saying that are either stubborn or haven't actually used one. I don't care what anyone says, drawing naturally and having it show up WHERE you're drawing is always better than staring at a screen while your hand operates below you.
It all comes down to your workflow and budget. Both are great, but you couldn't pay me to go back to an Intuos.
i tried the cintiq 21 but i was a bit disapponted, cause there is a slightly delay in drawing, but over time you will get used to it. and there is nothing better than seeing what you are drawing, but be sure that the delay is there, you might not noticing it but it is there, or maybe i am too much into perfect things.
i wish i was, i tried it once in Dubai on their big IT event exhibition, i guess its Gitex! there was a slightly delay, then again in 2010 i tried it in Japan, and the same delay there was both with standard new file. it's not a BIG delay for sure, but SLIGHTLY yes, i guess i care too much bout such tiny things. as long as u think its ok, then go for it. but my advice, as long as u r paying that much, add more 500$ and get the latest.
@kevin71127 Price usually isnt even the most difficult aspect of obtaining one. The 21 and 24 go in and out of stock frequently and can have large waiting lists.
Ill be honest, its usually 2500$ plus tax and shipping. my 21 was 2,300 in total so 3000$ is accurate enough. I think its worth it for the 21, I cant say for the 24 I do know that the 24 has seemingly better hotkeys, but has a weight of 65 lbs.
@kevin71127 cintiq 12, 21, or 24 are all good choices for tablets. the 12 is less pressure sensative than the intuos 4, cintiq 21 or 24. the 21s 23 lbs, the 24s 60 lbs. I got the 21 and the 12, I wouldnt part with either.
The intous 4 is a fine choice for a tablet though, if youre new to digital art entirely, than you may want to consider a bamboo because its cheaper overall and is a good beginning tab.
IF you have the dough though, id recommend a cintiq.
@dizimz Oh I should mention that the 12 is perfectly good for painter and photoshop, however I found Zbrush, Adobe Flash, and other apps with cumbersome UI are a bit of a problem. I found flash mostly unusable with the 12wx
So it depends on what you use most. Also the 12 is the least ergonomic, youll probably want a mount for it. The 21 is my favorite, it can free rotate and includes a very ergonomic stand, and it wouldnt shatter my desk under its sheer weight lol
@mikesamillion27 lol sry, my comment fked up. anyways.. id highly recommend you to get the cintiq12 n buy a higher end cintiq once you finish university. develop your skills. work hard. profit.
in amazon yes it is, but in wacom its about 2600$. i guess you can find it cheaper than 3000$ but when buying be aware, its a screen so there might be some red dots (bad pixels). so you have to check it first ( i mean buy it from a reseller not online) or go and get it from a company that assures you a replace whenever there is a bad pixel just to be on a safe side.
@mikesamillion27 hey you sound exactly like me!! im 17 n an aspiring concept artist too!!!
anyways, i own a 12 inch cintiq after having an intuos3 and i must say its great! having the cintiq really sped up my workflow dramatically and id highly recommend it as you'd most likely wanna save up money for cintiq 24 when ure outta uni or when u get pro. dont blow your money so early coz ull find out that you'll want a new model in later years. just develop ur skills with this cintiq n then probs at
@mikesamillion27 if you have the money $2,500 USD plus tax then get the 24HD. Though if you only have 1000 USD then get the 12WX for starters.
only difference between the cintiq's is that one is 12 inches and is a intuos 3 with a screen and the other is 24 inches and a intuos 4 with a screen on.
dont go by what the cheaptards tell you, drawing on a screen is better than always having to look up at the monitor while drawing on a tablet.
I own the 12WX and will get the 24 HD in 3 years or so.
@mechaart so for starting off I should just got the the 12WX and wait a while till I can easily afford the 24HD and when it will be more practical and usefull to me
@mikesamillion27 i'm just saying if you got 2,500 USD saved up and enough desk space to hold a big cintiq such as the 24HD and such then yes get the 24HD plus the 2042 points of pressure.
If you just want a beginner cintiq and can save 1000 USD and next year or the year after that upgrade to a bigger cintiq then by all means do so.
Though factors also include the screen size and resolution which the 24HD has more of than the 12WX.
@mechaart I think i'll just go for the 12WX mainly because i'll be going to university in a matter of months so it would be more practical and it will take me a while to save the money for the 24HD
@mikesamillion27 I would wait for the new 12wx model. For most users, there are inherent problems with the 12wx that make it incomparable to a 24hd or a 21.
@mikesamillion27 Sorry! I did not mean to get your hopes up. I was trying to express how the current generation 12 model simply does not compare to the higher end models. I would wait (maybe an indefinitely long time) before purchasing the smaller model.
@mikesamillion27 Wacom might not come out with a newer 12WX. They are mostly focusing on the bigger model's and also focusing on the intuos brand and bamboo brand's.
If they didn't showcase a commercial on their website or yt for the new 12WX I highly think Wacom will not or did not create a new 12WX.
@mikesamillion27 Don't go believing what others tell you as sometimes they say it will come out and you wait and all of a sudden you dont see a 12WX but a cintiq that is like 27 to 30 inches and has the intuos 5 technology and so forth.
go to the official website and look to see the 3 cintiq models they have.
Also try calling them and asking them if they are going to create a new one.
Try searching for Sentip, I heard they have a cintiq clone for 800 USD
@mikesamillion27 remember, the cintiq 12WX is basically the intuos 3 with a screen on it so you will only get 1024 points of pressure compared to the bigger and better cintiq models such as the 21UX 2nd Gen and 24 HD which both are intuos 4 tablets with screens on em and are much much bigger with more buttons and such.
If I gave you some advice just wait to get the bigger model cintiq.
Excellent job. You really hit the mark in giving the ups and down of moving from the smaller 12WX to the larger 24HD. I draw comic books and have a difficult time inking with the 12WX's goofy pen lag and interference. How do you see the upgrade increasing productivity for pencil and linework?
Hi, going to buy this! Have been using an Intuos 3 for too long now. And i wondered first... Where did you buy that kickass glove.... i can see how that will become better tu use than greasy hairy arms directly on the screen!!
i have one but im not sure about the color accuracy? because on my desktop things look completely different and by that i mean in color saturation so which one is more accurate?
@adsweaty There's no way for me to tell you which one is more accurate, but if you're happier with your main display's colors, just try to match your Cintiq's colors to it.
@DeviantRahll you said that the cintiq has pretty good color accuracy right? i believe the cintiq displays much better colors than my regular desktop, the saturation is just right but on my monitor i have a vaio touchscreen my monitor's saturation seems too low giving my peach colors an orange color but when i go to calibrate my display on my desktop moniter its excactly the same as my cintiq
@adsweaty If you're referring to the settings being the same, it doesn't matter. It's what you can SEE that matters, you'll have to play with them in order to find a nice balance. If you can't get it to work for you, then I suggest investing in a colorimeter.
qqhat an AMAZING tool. it's like a work of art itself. looks like you can do just about anything you'd want to. i do comic book art and would love to get one.
Great video, very informative and I've watched a few videos of this product and your video told me a lot more about this awesome product, think I'm just gona stay with the 21 tho
What is that thing on your hand called? I'd really need one of those as my intous4 quickly got messy, should I decide to get cintiq I'd want one of those for sure
I was going to get the 21ux but after your review im completely lost as to just save up that extra few hundred and get a 24hd, im a laptop user tho will i still get the most out of my 24HD regardless of that? its an expensive laptop with what i think has the requiremnts suitable. As for the 12wx at first for money wise it was my first option but ive had confusion at its compatibility with windows 7, some say ok, others not, have you tried yourself? :) sorry for the questions!!
@AngelAoi All of Wacom's products are compatible with Windows 7, I've never had an issue aside from some minor driver hiccups every so often, so you should be good either way :)
@ChocolateKow They're called SmudgeGuard. You can find them a few places. The SmudgeGuard guys have a site where they sell them. Google SmudgeGuard and you'll get quite a few hits.
I have two questions cause i might be getting one .. so can you make the cintiq a monitor with dual displays?? and what kinds of software do you get from the cintiq?
Hello, I would like your input on my decision. I am going to go into the illustration field and maybe animation later after my illustration school is done. So my question is since I have the money saved up, should I go for the 24HD or should I work my way up wth the 12 then 21 or just start out with the 24HD? Thank you who helps me with this decision.
@Zreyhayabusa09 If you think you're ultimately going to end up with the largest and best model, and you have the money, don't waste it on other models first. Just make sure you weigh the benefits of each first. If you're mostly a laptop user and you travel to and from school a lot, the 12wx might be a good idea to start with, then a 24HD later when you have more of a studio setup.
Otherwise, I'd go straight for the best if your setup and accommodate it and the money is there.
@DeviantRahll Yeah you right. It is hard for me to decide on because I have no idea if I do need to take to and fro from home to school. I usually take my sketch pad everywhere with me. I currently have no laptop, but I am thinking of getting one with help from my parents. I think I will go with the 24HD if the school has a lab that has cintiq devices in it, if not I will go with the 12wx. Thank you so much for your reply. I have been thinking of buying one for 2 years now.
@Zreyhayabusa09 To be honest I would just go with an intuos4 to start off. I don't see a really huge reason at the start of your illustration school to have a cintiq imo. If you're really bent on the Cintiq line, then I'd go with just the 12 atm. :)
@Funkstylesaydee I agree with Funkstylesaydee if price is an issue. I had Intuos tablets for.. I don't know.. Like.. 10 years or so.. Then I bought the 12" cintiq about two years ago, I had no idea at that point how important the hand to eye coordination actually was. I'd gotten so used to not seeing my hand that seeing it and being able to coordinate the pen with what happened on the screen just blew my mind. I would say get the 12" if you can afford it. Or better, the 24"
@CxRax I had the intuos 3 and the 4, and even though I guess the feel of the Intuos 4 (never mind the pens, they were far superiour technically) surface was a dream to draw on, the amount of nibs I wore out on that papery matte surface drove me insane. I literally swapped nibs every 2 hours because they started to feel all grindy and nasty. I really can't afford to swap like 5-10 nibs a week.. I guess if you make money off of art, that's fine, but for a hobbyist like me, hopeless.
@hajar9911 Do not buy the intuos 4 if you're not going to buy replacement nibs. If you draw a couple of hours a day you'll run through all the nibs you get with the pen in about a month if you draw super lightly. The surface of the Intuos 4 has a sandpaper-y texture to it. Not as rough as sandpaper, obviously, but the same type of texture to simulate paper. The forum was PACKED with complaints when they released the intuos 4, may have made wacom change their surface, I don't know.
@hajar9911 Did a little googling, turns out there are replacement surfaces for the intuos 4 tablets now. google Posrus intuos 4 surface. They have them on amazon. People seem happy with them according to user reviews there. If you get an intuos 4, do get that cover. The default surface feels great, but grind nibs to dust in no time. Intuos 4 pens are FAR superior to 3's though, and the touch wheel is very nice.
cool vid, i've had my cintiq 21uk DTK for almost a year to the day and i'm relatively happy with it. The new 24HD does look awesome though. Is it worth selling my "old" 21ux for the new model? i'm also considering getting an ergotron arm for my cintiq as from what i've seen it makes the 21uk alot more manoeuvrable (to the point where you can rest it on your lap). Good to see a new vid dude, keep em coming!
@CoolG777 I think one of the biggest benefits aside from the HD resolution is the ability to lower it into your lap. If you don't feel like selling and still needing to drop another $1k+ to get the new one, I'd say the ergotron arm is an awesome choice. I was going to do that with a 21 inch model myself, then shortly before I was going to purchase it, they announced the 24HD.
If you don't really NEED the extra res, I think the arm is a smart move for now if you want to save money.
Fifth element is one of my top faves. I even completely geeked out one day and made cookies that looked like the stones. Thank you for making this video!!
I also had no idea I could do anything about my hand catching all over the screen. This is prolly due to me being a tard. That glove is brilliant. :3
Hey man! I'm Iain, I'm from Scotland (I've decided that's relevant) and I had a quick question following your video. I'm deciding whether to buy a 24HD or a 21ux and can't really make up my mind - have you tried both of them out? If so, which would you recommend? Cheers
Good stuff, for me the thing is quite out of range at this point but i might get one in the future. it is really a great piece of hardware. Really a amazing thing. and the actual screen on the tablet in itself makes it so much more easy to work with then the cheaper Wacom tablets. I will continue to save up money to buy this thing.
It's a amazing product but I think it is to big and heavy. The best combination for productivity is 21UX with the Ergotron arm and Rii Mini Wireless Keyboard.
@mypix2tv I'm also in dilemma on whether to purchase the 21ux or the 24HD !! The 21ux has a rotating mechanism for extra comfort which is rather cool, it's lighter, thinner, and of course smaller. And yet for some strange reason they both are almost the same price!!!!
You're probably going to hate this but I couldn't get over how much you reminded me of Taylor lautner in the beginning of twilight with the long hair!
Great review though, I wish I had the money for one right now but that'll have to wait for the future
thanks so much for this review! you convinced me to *dream* about Cintiq, because for now it's waaaay to expensive for me ;_; I tested previous Cintiq and I must say that 24 HD fixes almost everything I didn't like about it. Too bad the space between screen and display is still noticable, but meh, everyone says you can get used to it. I envy you so much, hehe :D
Cool review. Question, the glove that your wearing, I take it that's to reduce screen smudging as much as possible. Did the glove come with the Cintiq? If not, where did you get it?
Also, what's the shelf life of a Cintiq before it generally starts to break down and does it suffer from overheating at all? Does it get hot if you work for a couple hours non-stop?
@MrChiprocks1 It's called a smudge guard, you can find the website by googling it, they're roughly 15 bucks, and last forever :)
As for shelf life, I've never had a Wacom product die on me, I've always replaced them with an upgrade before that's happened. The 24HD has fans inside that keep the screen cool, and I haven't noticed any heat issues whatsoever.
That thing is freakin massive and fuckin expensive. I don't think I'd have enough space on my desk… I can barely fit my small mac, lol, and that thing's like a 24" monitor… it's bigger then my TV… Non the less, I freakin want one.
im going to the digital art program in Tucson and im going to get my bachelors degree in illustration to work at Disney, is this tablet the best choice for professionals? or is there something else out there that's better? im not like runza over there i have been drawing since i was 12 and im pretty darn good at it.
Excuse me Could I please ask one very basic question? how to show photo shop presets on the cintiq monitor? I bought 24HD today but it doesn't show anything on the screen...I need to drag photo shop windows from another screen.
can you print your work straight from the unit itself or do you have to hook up to another computer, what I mean is can you hook up the unit straight to a printer... also great review very well done your critiq is one of my saved favorites... if possible please do more
@bozo47p It's basically just a monitor with a tablet mounted behind the screen, it doesn't act as its own computer like a laptop or anything like that.
nice one dude. i've been getting by with an intuos fine, however whereas i've gotten used to drawing with the unnatural hand-eye coordination, it starts to irritate me if i'm having a day where i'm not very inspired. the physical dislocation seems to make it even harder for me to get into the flow. think i might get one of these.
Would you say it helps improving drawing-/painting-skills as you work directly on the screen? I have a Bamboo Fun, which ist great, but it just doesn't feel that realistic, you know...
So, I got the money and I like to draw/paint digitally - would you recommend it?
I thought you were a bit of a bell end at first, but that was actually a really great review. Informative AND entertaining. By the end I'd really warmed to you and laughed out loud at you wearing Gimli's helm and battle axe! :-D ...Don't go changing! ;-)
Haha i watched your video like 3 or 4 years ago when i was deciding weather i should get the 12wx and i did. Now we are full circle with this one which i randomly clicked on. Rad!
@TheSisterPrincess...yes... from my personel and proffesional expierience, learning on the best is the only way to go...but being versatle in the work force it would be wise to familiarize your knowledge with the other models...not all employers work with cintiq models...the colors and picture are just as great if not better than a hp computer of HD quality...for 2700 dollars for the cintiq 24...it better be
Finally a new review of this product. Thanks for the great info and review. I plan on getting one this month. Currently I own a Cintiq 4 and love it but it is time to move up to a tablet monitor.
Glad I waited a year. I almost purchased the 21ux last year. Whew!
how much does it cost?

Thanks for the review! couple of questions if I may:
I use brush size a lot, and of course Pan, zoom and rotate.
Each time to toggle that side button seems slow (I'm using an Intouos),
and placing the keyboard under the tablet seems kinda, well, un reached.
What im saying is that photoshop works really fast with the keyboard for me,
do you find this a concern, or you find the buttons on the Cintiq a good equivalent?
Thanks!

I'm leaning towards the Intuos4, but I'm still not sure.
kevin71127 1 month ago
@kevin71127 I'm not sure who's telling you that the Intuos4 is "all around better" than a Cintiq. I get the feeling that people saying that are either stubborn or haven't actually used one. I don't care what anyone says, drawing naturally and having it show up WHERE you're drawing is always better than staring at a screen while your hand operates below you.
It all comes down to your workflow and budget. Both are great, but you couldn't pay me to go back to an Intuos.
DeviantRahll 1 month ago
@kevin71127
i tried the cintiq 21 but i was a bit disapponted, cause there is a slightly delay in drawing, but over time you will get used to it. and there is nothing better than seeing what you are drawing, but be sure that the delay is there, you might not noticing it but it is there, or maybe i am too much into perfect things.
diamonddonut 6 days ago
@diamonddonut Nah, i tried out a friends, and it worked fine. Maybe you were on a huge canvas or something.
kevin71127 5 days ago
@kevin71127
i wish i was, i tried it once in Dubai on their big IT event exhibition, i guess its Gitex! there was a slightly delay, then again in 2010 i tried it in Japan, and the same delay there was both with standard new file. it's not a BIG delay for sure, but SLIGHTLY yes, i guess i care too much bout such tiny things. as long as u think its ok, then go for it. but my advice, as long as u r paying that much, add more 500$ and get the latest.
diamonddonut 5 days ago
@diamonddonut isn't the HD $3,000?
kevin71127 5 days ago
@kevin71127 Price usually isnt even the most difficult aspect of obtaining one. The 21 and 24 go in and out of stock frequently and can have large waiting lists.
Ill be honest, its usually 2500$ plus tax and shipping. my 21 was 2,300 in total so 3000$ is accurate enough. I think its worth it for the 21, I cant say for the 24 I do know that the 24 has seemingly better hotkeys, but has a weight of 65 lbs.
dizimz 3 days ago
@kevin71127 cintiq 12, 21, or 24 are all good choices for tablets. the 12 is less pressure sensative than the intuos 4, cintiq 21 or 24. the 21s 23 lbs, the 24s 60 lbs. I got the 21 and the 12, I wouldnt part with either.
The intous 4 is a fine choice for a tablet though, if youre new to digital art entirely, than you may want to consider a bamboo because its cheaper overall and is a good beginning tab.
IF you have the dough though, id recommend a cintiq.
dizimz 3 days ago
@dizimz Oh I should mention that the 12 is perfectly good for painter and photoshop, however I found Zbrush, Adobe Flash, and other apps with cumbersome UI are a bit of a problem. I found flash mostly unusable with the 12wx
So it depends on what you use most. Also the 12 is the least ergonomic, youll probably want a mount for it. The 21 is my favorite, it can free rotate and includes a very ergonomic stand, and it wouldnt shatter my desk under its sheer weight lol
dizimz 3 days ago
@mikesamillion27 lol sry, my comment fked up. anyways.. id highly recommend you to get the cintiq12 n buy a higher end cintiq once you finish university. develop your skills. work hard. profit.
SoldinArt 1 month ago
@SoldinArt
in amazon yes it is, but in wacom its about 2600$. i guess you can find it cheaper than 3000$ but when buying be aware, its a screen so there might be some red dots (bad pixels). so you have to check it first ( i mean buy it from a reseller not online) or go and get it from a company that assures you a replace whenever there is a bad pixel just to be on a safe side.
diamonddonut 5 days ago
@mikesamillion27 hey you sound exactly like me!! im 17 n an aspiring concept artist too!!!
anyways, i own a 12 inch cintiq after having an intuos3 and i must say its great! having the cintiq really sped up my workflow dramatically and id highly recommend it as you'd most likely wanna save up money for cintiq 24 when ure outta uni or when u get pro. dont blow your money so early coz ull find out that you'll want a new model in later years. just develop ur skills with this cintiq n then probs at
SoldinArt 1 month ago
ok 17 year old aspiring concept artist... do I start off with the 12wx or just save and work for the 24HD?
mikesamillion27 1 month ago
@mikesamillion27 if you have the money $2,500 USD plus tax then get the 24HD. Though if you only have 1000 USD then get the 12WX for starters.
only difference between the cintiq's is that one is 12 inches and is a intuos 3 with a screen and the other is 24 inches and a intuos 4 with a screen on.
dont go by what the cheaptards tell you, drawing on a screen is better than always having to look up at the monitor while drawing on a tablet.
I own the 12WX and will get the 24 HD in 3 years or so.
mechaart 1 month ago
@mechaart so for starting off I should just got the the 12WX and wait a while till I can easily afford the 24HD and when it will be more practical and usefull to me
mikesamillion27 1 month ago
@mikesamillion27 i'm just saying if you got 2,500 USD saved up and enough desk space to hold a big cintiq such as the 24HD and such then yes get the 24HD plus the 2042 points of pressure.
If you just want a beginner cintiq and can save 1000 USD and next year or the year after that upgrade to a bigger cintiq then by all means do so.
Though factors also include the screen size and resolution which the 24HD has more of than the 12WX.
Also check wacom's site as they are sold out.
mechaart 1 month ago
@mechaart I think i'll just go for the 12WX mainly because i'll be going to university in a matter of months so it would be more practical and it will take me a while to save the money for the 24HD
mikesamillion27 1 month ago
@mikesamillion27 I would wait for the new 12wx model. For most users, there are inherent problems with the 12wx that make it incomparable to a 24hd or a 21.
jimmyjxia 1 month ago
@jimmyjxia there's a new model coming out? :O where can i find details?
mikesamillion27 1 month ago
@mikesamillion27 Sorry! I did not mean to get your hopes up. I was trying to express how the current generation 12 model simply does not compare to the higher end models. I would wait (maybe an indefinitely long time) before purchasing the smaller model.
jimmyjxia 1 month ago
@mikesamillion27 Wacom might not come out with a newer 12WX. They are mostly focusing on the bigger model's and also focusing on the intuos brand and bamboo brand's.
If they didn't showcase a commercial on their website or yt for the new 12WX I highly think Wacom will not or did not create a new 12WX.
mechaart 1 month ago
@mechaart awww snap :/
mikesamillion27 1 month ago
@mikesamillion27 Don't go believing what others tell you as sometimes they say it will come out and you wait and all of a sudden you dont see a 12WX but a cintiq that is like 27 to 30 inches and has the intuos 5 technology and so forth.
go to the official website and look to see the 3 cintiq models they have.
Also try calling them and asking them if they are going to create a new one.
Try searching for Sentip, I heard they have a cintiq clone for 800 USD
mechaart 1 month ago
@mikesamillion27 remember, the cintiq 12WX is basically the intuos 3 with a screen on it so you will only get 1024 points of pressure compared to the bigger and better cintiq models such as the 21UX 2nd Gen and 24 HD which both are intuos 4 tablets with screens on em and are much much bigger with more buttons and such.
If I gave you some advice just wait to get the bigger model cintiq.

adsweaty 1 month ago
@adsweaty There's no way for me to tell you which one is more accurate, but if you're happier with your main display's colors, just try to match your Cintiq's colors to it.
DeviantRahll 1 month ago
@DeviantRahll you said that the cintiq has pretty good color accuracy right? i believe the cintiq displays much better colors than my regular desktop, the saturation is just right but on my monitor i have a vaio touchscreen my monitor's saturation seems too low giving my peach colors an orange color but when i go to calibrate my display on my desktop moniter its excactly the same as my cintiq
adsweaty 1 month ago
@adsweaty If you're referring to the settings being the same, it doesn't matter. It's what you can SEE that matters, you'll have to play with them in order to find a nice balance. If you can't get it to work for you, then I suggest investing in a colorimeter.

Zreyhayabusa09 1 month ago
@Zreyhayabusa09 If you think you're ultimately going to end up with the largest and best model, and you have the money, don't waste it on other models first. Just make sure you weigh the benefits of each first. If you're mostly a laptop user and you travel to and from school a lot, the 12wx might be a good idea to start with, then a 24HD later when you have more of a studio setup.
Otherwise, I'd go straight for the best if your setup and accommodate it and the money is there.
DeviantRahll 1 month ago
@DeviantRahll Yeah you right. It is hard for me to decide on because I have no idea if I do need to take to and fro from home to school. I usually take my sketch pad everywhere with me. I currently have no laptop, but I am thinking of getting one with help from my parents. I think I will go with the 24HD if the school has a lab that has cintiq devices in it, if not I will go with the 12wx. Thank you so much for your reply. I have been thinking of buying one for 2 years now.
Zreyhayabusa09 1 month ago
@Zreyhayabusa09 To be honest I would just go with an intuos4 to start off. I don't see a really huge reason at the start of your illustration school to have a cintiq imo. If you're really bent on the Cintiq line, then I'd go with just the 12 atm. :)
Funkstylesaydee 1 month ago

I guess if you make money off of art, that's fine, but for a hobbyist like me, hopeless.
ronnysoeberg 1 month ago
@ronnysoeberg hey, i want to buy the intuos 4 but you mentioned something about the nibs ? you said they wore out ?
if i buy the intuos 4 i won't be able to buy any new nibs and even if i could i would never do it
so is it a good choice or should buy a bamboo or something
hajar9911 1 month ago
@hajar9911 Do not buy the intuos 4 if you're not going to buy replacement nibs. If you draw a couple of hours a day you'll run through all the nibs you get with the pen in about a month if you draw super lightly. The surface of the Intuos 4 has a sandpaper-y texture to it. Not as rough as sandpaper, obviously, but the same type of texture to simulate paper. The forum was PACKED with complaints when they released the intuos 4, may have made wacom change their surface, I don't know.
ronnysoeberg 1 month ago
@ronnysoeberg so the bamboo won't have the same problem ?
hajar9911 1 month ago
@hajar9911 Did a little googling, turns out there are replacement surfaces for the intuos 4 tablets now. google Posrus intuos 4 surface. They have them on amazon. People seem happy with them according to user reviews there. If you get an intuos 4, do get that cover. The default surface feels great, but grind nibs to dust in no time. Intuos 4 pens are FAR superior to 3's though, and the touch wheel is very nice.

@ronnysoeberg thanks a lot , you really helped :)

cool vid, i've had my cintiq 21uk DTK for almost a year to the day and i'm relatively happy with it.
CoolG777 1 month ago
@CoolG777 I think one of the biggest benefits aside from the HD resolution is the ability to lower it into your lap. If you don't feel like selling and still needing to drop another $1k+ to get the new one, I'd say the ergotron arm is an awesome choice. I was going to do that with a 21 inch model myself, then shortly before I was going to purchase it, they announced the 24HD.
If you don't really NEED the extra res, I think the arm is a smart move for now if you want to save money.

Thanks in advance.
MrChiprocks1 3 months ago
@MrChiprocks1 It's called a smudge guard, you can find the website by googling it, they're roughly 15 bucks, and last forever :)
As for shelf life, I've never had a Wacom product die on me, I've always replaced them with an upgrade before that's happened. The 24HD has fans inside that keep the screen cool, and I haven't noticed any heat issues whatsoever.

Currently I am studying Industrial Design and it is dealing with a lot of drawing.
Do you think it is alright to jump into professional grade tablet like intuos and cintiq straightaway?
I tried my friend's bamboo, it feels great and my only complaint is its size.
Just another question, how is the color of the tablet's monitor?
Is it calibrated correctly? Because at same time photography is my hobby.

Finally a new review of this product. Thanks for the great info and review. I plan on getting one this month. Currently I own a Cintiq 4 and love it but it is time to move up to a tablet monitor.
Glad I waited a year. I almost purchased the 21ux last year. Whew!
