The name of this Martyn Bennett track is Liberation. It is a spiritual piece from the Grit album and should not be confused by association with the Sean Connery movie Zardos.
Martyn's work was totally incredible. One of the best Scottish artists of all time. I really wish they would release his work on vinyl sometime, especially Grit and Hardland. I always drop one of his tunes into a mix anytime I DJ, I think he'd like that. Your missed matey.
Martyn Bennett's story has really left a mark. I only heard about him after his death. How tragic. I love all things Scottish and when I am in the company of a true Scottish piper I always bring his name up some know of him some don't. Hopefully his legacy will flourish! God rest his soul!!
@Hemingrubbish I bought the albums because I do not believe stealing of the dead when they gave their life for the music. Much respect to Martyn Bennett a genius taken from us far too early.
Top moments: seeing him in Edinburgh Liquid Rooms on and watching enormous American festival tourists moshing about with folky crusty types and monged out clubbers. Martyn Bennett reached all sorts and introduced them to tunes, beats or traditions as applicable. From beery indie Maximo Park loving Geordies to fiddle freaks, he got everyone in on the massive joy of good music. Martyn has been gone for a while but I still miss what he gave us. Still sadly missed, but fondly remembered.
Before Hardland, Martyn Bennett publicated a song with other musician who plays the saxo (i don´t know his name). The song mixed the pipe and the saxofon. I think this song it isn`t in any album... Someone knows what im talk about? The name of this song? Excuse me for my english, I am Galician!!!
Martyn Bennett, a wee daub of sheer polished genius, and "Grit" proved the old adage of masterpieces being created during the worst moments of an artist's life.
Hope you're happy on the other side Martyn, and that whatever lies beyond makes up for what was so bloody unfair in this one.
I miss Him a lot. I discover Martyn Bennett during the Interceltic festival in 1997. he will stay as one of my best memory ever. Thank you mister bennett.
