i agree with the Cars thing...it's not really overt, but there is a subtle similarity.

Smith's guitar work from this period should be mandatory learning material for anyone who wants to buy a guitar. he's such an underrated genius.

The same with Simon Gallup's bass lines. Any aspiring bassist should learn some songs from '17 Seconds' or 'Faith'. This song in particular has got different changes in tempo. It is really a fun song to play, though difficult!

I agree that Robert Smith is an underrated guitarist. At the same time, his guitar playing is unique. I have not heard anyone actually play the guitar the way he does.
