You know they were trying to provoke some sort of conflict between the US, China, North Korea and South Korea. Lots of poor young men would have died so Euna and Laura could get their fame.
There capture is really for the best. These two had empty meaningless lives. Now they will get some exercise, maybe learn a productive trade. Good hard labor will be good for Laura Lings ulcer.
My deepest sympathy goes out to these two women and I do hope that they will be returned safely back to the U.S.A...
But in other words, it's true that these 2 women have no business in N Korea. They knew the dangers and should have considered the consequences before they cross the border.
They should respect the fact N Korea has their own rules & laws and they should not be trespassing illegally.
I'm not optimistic about the positive outcome of this.
Why did N. Korea do this, because they know that the worst thing that will happen is more "tough talk" and finger wagging from Obama an'nem. The reporters were probably trying to bring home a big story, in N. Korea of all places! Still, this is all about testing the Obama administration. Oh yeah, they will still be working on the nuclear bomb. They know that with Obama in office, there is really nothing to fear from America. Some other nation will have to handle the nuke situation (cont.)
As far as the reporter, we are going to cave into N. Korea and give them whatever they want to get them back. I can see it now, this will be just the beginning of Americans being snatched in order to get something from this administration.
We tell them we will impose no sanctions for their nuclear or missile tests, and that we will not do ship searches (so we let them develop and sell their long range nuclear missiles to whatever radical group they want) IF they release the girls.
Then when they ask to buy food from us, we say:
"How about you, your parents, and your children starve to death instead?"
Then we strike their nuclear facilities, and have our missile defenses set up in South Korea and Japan just in case.

back in 1996 some guy swam the Yula river into North Korea. They accused him of spying and wanted $100K.
the guy was naked, and drunk.
