I lived through all of this. In 1957 my interest began when my Uncles were talking about Sputnik. I went outside, in broad daylight, to see this thing. I got all I could find on the space program, signing up for the Nasa mailings. I got samples of space suit material, dehydrated space food and lots of literature. I made and launched model rockets, even launching and recovering mice. (None died). Our teachers brought TV's into the classroom and we watched all the launches. Major flashbacks! thank
