Personally, I like China and their style but Russia competed extremely well. Because of them, this was probably the greatest gold medal match in history. That's what the Olympics is about. I just think Russia's lack of variety cost them the match. They set #14 to mix things up in the first two sets but in the last three sets she got less than five attacking chances.

canwestfan, i think brazil suffer even more when they took the first 2 sets and leading the 3rd set by 24-19...but russia save all the match points at 24-24 and finally got their 4th set by 26-24 into the final

its very tough for the russian players to keep themselves together and altogether saved six match points...thats an extremely tight match

Liberos can't block right? I clearly remember in the first set Tyurina going up for a block on an overbump. I'm glad China won. Some Russian players (Tebenikhina, Tyurina, and Tcitchenko) displayed poor taste with trash talking, intimidating looks, and complaining. Plus, they went to Gamova a little too much. Plotnikova, one of the few I liked from the Russians, hardly got set. Chinese had a little more variety with combination plays.

To fall at the final hurdle, especially after having taken a 2-set lead, is the most painful feeling. But that's what you have to put up with at that level. Sad but true.
