  • @Keyblade747 No, unrelated incidents. Galifrey is time locked and outside of the influence of the crack even the crack isn't powerful enough to breach a time lock. The Timelords were able to come back briefly in end of time do to manipulating the master. He can't just jump through the crack. We did see something get out of the Crack. Rory. But look what that did to him. The Master will return when he is good and ready along with the Time Lords.

  • @aperson22222 Not as crazy as this theory I saw on tvtropes that The Doctor and The Master are Time Lords. They'll never find any evidence to support that.

  • Here is a possible thing I see in the future.

    The Master using his genius intellect, assist the time lords in defeating the daleks in the time war or something and then breaks the time lock somehow. THe doctor at first is worried but it is revealed that the master has finally turned into a genuine good guy. Maybe he has rassilon take the drum noise out of his mind or something. it would be cool to have The Master as Time Lord President.

  • I'm going to guess some prison matron finds the ring and for no reason anyone can think of goes through some Wiccan ceremony to revive the Master. Then the Master tries to do something really over-the-top and crazy, like, oh I don't know, turn everyone into a copy of himself. But the real villain is Rassilon, who put the drums in the Master's head in the first place as a way of getting through the time lock the Doctor placed at the end of the war! Nah, I'm just kidding, that would be crazy.

  • I hope John Simms plays the master again. I think Moffat could also do a really cool master story. Don't get me wrong, I think RTD did an amazing job on it, I just want to see a Smith vs. Simms story :)

  • @forrestorocks Exactly. Simms was priceless...my favourite Master now (Anthony Ainley being at a slight disadvantage now that he's extremely respiration-challenged.) All Simms stuff was a pure joy to watch -- all the best bits of the older incarnations of the Master coupled with some of what I can only describe is Alan Rickman-like villainy.

  • @bigkon420 Unlikly since he ran away and used a chamleon Arch but anything's possiable in Dr Who. The books are usually accepted as canon by most fans if they don't contradict the show. Of Course since it's a well known fact that the Doctor lies it really blurs the line between what happens in some of the books and what he says happens.

  • ill be disappointed if they ever trueky killed off ther master perminently cos not only was john simm incredible as the master, he and tennant bounced off each other so well, but if they kill off the master, its like killing off the daleks or the cybermen, classic villians, part of the charm and brilliance of them is that they keep gettin revived, theyre such fantastic enemies so to kill any of them off would be tragic to be honest. it'd be like killing the tardis perminently :O

  • The beat is from the intro themes of Doctor Who. They're most likely an easter egg, but for the theme of the show, not specifically to the master.

  • i think the master will be resurected by his diciples with the ring, combined with a potion of life and the isometric signature he left on lucy's lips, he will then implant himself on the entire human race using a vinvotchi ressurection gate which he will then use to make a gateway between present day earth and the time war, but then the doctor will fall through the roof from a spaceship, destroy the gate and then be saved by the master

  • The Master has always been my favorite villain/anti-hero.

    I hope he appears again in the new series. (Though, he has already cheated death twice, so I'm not sure if the writers would even consider it.)

  • kiirometh, I think it's very perceptive how you were able to foretell the return of the master before the episode even came out. You need a critical eye and ear for those kind of things. Kudos!   • @samthepsycicclam Seems like RTD wrote SM into a corner as far as the Master goes. If SM tries to bring him back, and he wants him to be a bad guy, the Master would have to be really screwed up from what happened in TEOT Part 2. He'd half to be like the Joker from The Dark Knight.

    If you listened to what the Doctor said, he had barely any life force left, and his body was on the verge of death. When he attacked the Time Lords at the end, you can tell that's the last of his life force.

    If he went into the Time Lord, he would have been incinerated by a very, very powerful weapon that literally incinerated everything in the war, burned them to nothing.

  • @Dan2nd But the Time Lords are gone, and the story was left unopen. In the original series, they were going to have the Master redeem himself and finally die, but the actor died.

    In the new series, they did his last episode in dedication to that, because they thought it was time to end him, but this time WITH the Time Lords as a kind of goodbye to the old times.

This has been keeping me up for nights, but the dugga-du-du heard in the background of the Doctor Who theme song sounds sort of like the Drums... but maybe I'm just insane. And the Master will knock four times in the succession of the heartbeat. And the return of the Ood... the Doctor is just going out of his mind. It's terrifying and terribly heartbreaking. He's marching to his Death....

  • OK, it seems the ring was something like the pocketwatch that the master used to turn himself into a time lord unknowingly. This could mean he could perserve past of his/a timelords dna and regenerate AFTER dying (he might not acually have died though it might have been more like hiberating, and somehow not breathing while doing so, sort of like the theory of freezing someone and thawing them out a few years later) tell me if anything is wrong about this havent seen the master 1 in a while. :)

    All that is know about it and who will really do it is that the knocking is not good, and even the producers say they can't bare it, and filming 'the four knocks' was unbearable.

    Everything they say is saying this 'four knocks' will be something very terrible, dark, something evil. One refered to it 'as the dreaded prohecy that he will knock four times... but you don't know who."

  • i think the knocking is the time lords on gallifrey (either sending him a message or trying to kill him for disturbing time because if he distubs time he can destroy it) like the water person knocking 3 times and the doctor stops the 4th (that is most probably the time lords trying to kill the doctor because he has gone too far)

    He's returning- sure. But the knocking? The producers assosiated it something else, someone else. Not him. What the knocking really means has yet to be revealed, and who is REALLY knocking.

  • no Davros created the Darleks the doctor didn't forget him after the Time War he transferred his timelord DNA to a pocket watch and went to the end of time to hide from the Darleks as a normal person that why the doctor didn't sense him at first

    at some pint, the master and the doctor knew each other, but the doctore forgot him after the time war, it probably messed up the doctors memory, and maybe the Master created the darleks.

  • I don't know if anyone's noticed this ( maybe it's just me) but right at the begining of any Doctor who theme, i think there is a slightly same beat. You might be able to hear it better with the 9th, 8th or 3rd Doctor's theme. Maybe they heard the begining and made the master do that tap. OR I'm going Crazy.

  • What's the point in re-arranging the title? Everyone know he's coming back, and it seems the title is just a concidence when you look at it from another perspective, such as it was confirmed a coincidence that Mister Saxon = Master No. Six

  • in "the Planet of the Dead", with the metal stingrays and fly-men, at the end, the partially psychic woman said "he will knock 4 times" which is the same as the Master's drum beat.

  • The Rani is a rival Time Lord, essentially a Female Master. She first appeared during Colin Baker's 6th Doctor era Sylvester McCoy's 7th Doctor.

    Her last appearance was in a charity special but that can hardly be considered canon, just a bit of fun.

    She has never regenerated on screen and the had looks a bit old but Kate O'Mara who played her is about 70 now so whether she'd be up to doing it.

    I'm hoping we find out in the christmas special what went on here.

  • John Simm has been confirmed to be returning as the Master in the last two episodes with David Tennant. There is an interview with him regarding it in the radio times etc. Also set reports and photos of him filming.

  • i think i know what happens when the master comes back at christmas. Lucy Saxon picked up the ring. the master is binded into the ring and lucy brings the master back via the ring. Also in the 2 part crimbo special donna, donna's grandad (wilfered mott) and sylvia nobel come back. wilfered mott is the doctors compainion for that special.

  • I don't think the "knock four times" is anything to do with the master. I did at first, but the Knock Knock Knock Knock is in the new Waters of Mars trailer and the Master is not in the waters of mars?
