I am a beginner too... Was this just a lack of commitment on your part? It looked like you coulda made that turn but bailed out and upset your suspension last minute... I don't know...
he could have EASILY made that turn... push the thing into the turn !!! chances are, you'll make the corner even if your brain says you wont.... and why were YOU following that guy off the track ??? I will tell you... target fixation.. look where you wanna go, not where you are currently. 10 yrs of roadracing experience teaches you this stuff. Countless times I have gone in too deep or the thing slid.. always fight to make the turn. A lowside isn't a bad fail.
That was me in front. The bike with the camera was following and videotaping me because I had won a contest for best beginner rider. Thanks for the tips.
10yrs experience would tell you that riding it out if possible is ALWAYS better than a lowside. why risk it, what was he going to do win the track day?
Nice video, we learn from our mistake, and we improve it :) That happen to me before and I crash, and now I hang off my bike more, its feels better and I can go faster on the turn keeping my bike a bit more straight.
But yeah, you we very lucky that you learn and have that feeling without wasting money fixing the bike :) I had to fix mine.
Question...Did you lock the wheels as you were slowing down and downshifting? Forgot to blip? sw00sch12 is def right about target fixation. Sometimes, we get caught up in the moment and it may deter us from our normal path. Re-adjust your line to avoid a wreck in front of you. As they always say, keep the dirty side down!
just a piece of advice.. im sure you heard it plenty since this... but never stop to pay attention to someone in front of you who hit a crash or anything of the sort... best thing to do .. is as soon as you see something happen.. look wellllll ahead of it... you always go where you're looking and this way you don't get caught up in a wreck yourself.... be safe!!.. rubber side down!

@shoeaddik Yeah I got a little scared, but we were also told we couldn't pass on the inside, so I would have been breaking the rules.

not the best idea breaking into the turn... then again better that then risking hitting his tail! LEast u recovered !
korefighter 1 year ago

a couple comments.
1st...I hate cresson's pavement. Its too damned polished. Thats why a lot of people crash out there.
2nd, thats why you dont use your rear brake much when turning.
3rd...nice save!

Bad idea to go this slow or intend to stop
when your mate goes off the track
in front of you, someone still on racing speed might crash into you.
This is something I was told
at a track day riders briefing.

I hope you got some leathers on under that T shirt

Yes, I have a suit on. The shirt was just so the cameraman could more easily identify me.

Yes, I didn't rev-match. A slipper clutch would have helped me.
dontdriveangry06 4 years ago
Do you normally blip? That's one of the first things I learned during my first month of riding! It helps so much!
mvspeed101 4 years ago
I hadn't learned that skill before this trackday, but I practice it all the time now.
dontdriveangry06 4 years ago
Could you explain me what a Blip is? thanks!
nsG0 2 years ago
Giving a quick jerk of throttle as you shift down.
JacktheSmack 2 years ago
You dont need a slipper clutch.I suggest you get a Twist of the wrist by Keith Code.

I was the one almost crashing, not the one with the camera, but good advice nonetheless!
