  • I want meet an amish. and live has an amish for some time

  • I'll be calling him when and if I have to rebuild.

  • "Will it come back" ? Uhhh, yes, but not with homes that were built to withstand 100 mph wind. This Amish built home is extremely strong, but any house built within 100 miles of the ocean should be built to standards which can withstand 150 mph wind for a duration of 12 hours. Expensive, but what are the options? Go through this every 25 years?

  • The Amish has a wonderful way of life, much like the way i was brought up. Get up early in the morning, work your ass of in the woods / Sea / Fields, go home for a huge feast, work some more and go to bed feeling like you've actually done something. Todays kids are nothing but spoiled brats and they could all use 6 months in a working camp. And learn what respect for fellow man and a hard days work really is.

  • how the hell they let em film

  • i thought Amish didn't use tech

  • @hgdge they don't use things that are 'english' seeing that they are dutch. it wasn't about tech but keeping the influence of outsiders from corrupting their way of life. Some Amish use electricity as long as it is produced in their shop by burning propane which keeps them off the electrical grid.

  • @stronty i see thanks

  • It was a fun place to go. When I was in Houston, rent a beach house. The long nights on the beach, the fires, moon lit swims. Okay some skinny dipping to, late at night. I hope it comes back. Last summer it was still bad down there. It's a slow process. Like he said, they'll be back. I will be back too

  • one word, use concrete!

  • @budapetermann Concrete has no tensile strength. Bad for hurricanes and wind,

  • NOw that is a cool Amish

  • i bet amish built the ark

  • Amish speak words of wisdom and are the kindest people.

  • In Europe people use concrete . Not even 5tornados could take them down.

  • i have the highest regards and respect for the amish. i myself was raised im many ways that are not diffrent from the amish, plowing with horses, working the manure spreader (ugh) etc. home made bread. can goods head cheese. the only thing that i can see where people on that beach should really think about building a round concrete house, proven to stand up to any hurricane. dome houses rule.

  • Isn't the whole point of being amish to not use anything electric. Posers.

  • @torontosmoker The whole point of being Amish is to be separate from the world, and interdependent on each other. And each Amish community decides to what extent that will be done in their group. Most of the Amish in Lancaster Co, PA have electricity and indoor plumbing. Just because they aren't what you thought they were doesn't make them hypocrites.

  • This kind of work is worth alot.

  • some people are just so kind hearted... the world should idle people like this rather than celebrities

  • Terrific. Just goes to show what you can do with passion and skill.

  • 1:30 very true but the best way to do that is with a monolithic dome

  • wow they are cheating ,the rule is no electricity no car . I don't think they believe jesus any more by using car. using electricity is against the bible lol

  • @davidxuling dif Amish have dif rules. Most Amish in Lancaster Co have electricity and indoor plumbing. Just cause you expected them to be all alike doesnt make them hypocrites.

  • I lived among the strictest, northern central ohio, around the elyria area...in fact they were so populous in that region i have their accent, as well as a portion of us outsiders, and let me tell you, the BEST pie you could ever eat...not the best hospitality tho...but business was dealt well between us

  • They're very good builders

  • Concrete domes seem like a sensible construction choice in hurricane zones.

  • why are all those people getting houses right where an Hurricane destroyed everything? I mean, next hurricane it could all go off again...

I'd rather sell my land and move somewhere more inland <_<

  • I thought they weren't allowed to use electric tools.

  • @magicbuskey either way they have the morals and values of faith.

lets not nit pick but rather be thankful for the good there is left on this eath.

There seems to be very little of that growing any more.

i rather have an amish next door to me than a modern day person.

  • @magicbuskey

    there isn't anything really forbidden.

Just one group chose to be more strict and one not.

  • Keep in mind that when our economy collapses the Amish will not feel the affects of it! Think about it.

  • @patandfritz The Amish that live around me have mortgages and pay property tax. Most of their income comes from construction. They will suffer less that the "english" but they will still feel the hurt.

  • Why do americans build wooden houses? What's wrong with bricks? Stone (bricks) lasts centuries. Wood doesn't if not replaced and that becomes expensive.

  • @kotapaka

And after having termites, you wish it was concrete and steel.

  • @kotapaka In Europe houses that where made of wood are 40-600 years old with the same wood.

  • @dynobreath ...while the ones made from stones are 1000 years old. Take castles for example. Have you seen castles made of wood?

  • @kotapaka I do not know about castles but the Leigh Court barn in Worcestershire, England is timber-framed and is dated around the thirteenth to fourteenth century. I agree that stone is superior but very expensive in the U.S.

  • WTF Amish people cant use power tools.

  • @MrAshrak117

There are many different groups with in the Amish community. Some eschew modern inventions alltogether while others allow them so long as they are plain. The latter type might allow automobiles for instance so long as they were highly functional, black in colour and had no air con or radio.

  • I absolutely agree with 5tonyvvvv

  • @XtremeMB thanx

  • good story I for one enjoyed it and the Amish are good people,,,,,and Americans,,,,we can learn alot from them

  • Amish men are the best carpenters in the world, there techniques are amazing just as good as modern buildings ...so called modern homes are pieces of shit...the amish can build these homes with no modern tools either. all with pegs and joining.just with hand tools..just like in the time of jesus.

  • that is craftmanship that will last, most of what we build here is cheap, balloon framed disposable crap

  • awesome wood working!

  • sounds/looks awesome but if it catches on fire you're screwed. ô.ô

  • I used to be Amish, but we did not build houses like that, but barns are similar to that. Interesting that they are using that style on a house. But the beach houses need that extra something to make sure the wind can't just destroy the place.

  • Saw these folks having dinner at Tiki one night, they seemed like real nice people.

  • about time someone figured out that the Amish way of doing things are not all that backward!

  • Good reference of their craftsmanship!

  • Rich people, building fancy homes on the beach where anyone with a lick of sense wouldn't build. Then when a huricane comes and blows their house away, we're suppose to feel sorry for them and our taxes have to go to "help" these folks out. I don't care if it's an Amish home or not, (though I'm sure that style of construction is preferable to the stick construction used by most in this country.) Have sense enough to not be like the fool in the Bible who built his house on the sand.

  • @oldtimeway1

I would also prefer to leave the beaches undisturbed.

If you want go to the beach, fine, but don't build on it.

Making houses on the beach just seems selfish.

  • I don't get it, if they want a more resistant house, why don't just use bricks?

  • Alot people would think as well. But the way timber framing works is that each piece of the house are pulled together with mortise and tenon conenctions and pegs. They are incredibly strong and resiliant to pulling apart. The pulling apart aspect is where the modern stick built house looses its strength. They are also very fire resiliant due to the thickness of the beams. They will scortch rather than completely burn.

Bricks do not respond well to "pulling apart" forces.

  • The rejection of science by the uneducated in this country is a pathetic reaction to feeling powerless over their fate. It would be wise if they stopped listening to equally uneducated loudmouths on the radio. They are playing on fear to manipulate the masses and take away our freedoms. Look at what has happened to the constitution over the last 8 years. Just because you don't understand something does not make it a conspiracy. Fools.

  • Ad3543? are you for real? and i quote you, " It would be wise if they stopped listening to equally uneducated loudmouths on the radio." Some of these loud moths on the radio happen to be the top scientists in the world who debunk " global warming" Seems as if your a little educated but a little lost., why don't you look up Nasa and their take on global warming, unless of course you consider them uneducated loudmouths too. It never ceases to amaze me the lengths to which eco nuts will go too.

  • No, in fact the few weirdos that your are talking about are not the "top scientists" in anything. Just using that phrase displays ignorance. Try finding the dates of your "scientists" last peer reviewed publication. How old are they?

  • You think your a somebody don't you? Well your not, you arrogant fuck, so shut it.

  • The phrase is "you are" and the contraction is "you're". It would be used in a sentence as follows. You're an uneducated nobody.

  • So what if i am an uneducated nobody? You are an educated nobody. And i'm still smarter than you

  • I Have that prob with kids in school.

  • I wonder how you feel to be walking around with egg on your face? I am talking about the hackers that intercepted the emails. You have the audacity to call people fools LOL

  • This is the worst narrator's voice I have ever heard.

  • i know!

  • Global warming increases the strength of hurricanes. That town is doomed. No building can stop the sea.

  • global warming is a hoax

  • Yes sure it is,even ten thousand of year ago people used to drive and use factories like they are doing today...How can be propoganda when people are using all the resources of the earth."cause effect"

  • millions of years ago the earth was hotter than during the ice age it got cooler and then again it changed to become hotter again. than in the 70s it was cooler and now it warmer today. climate change is natural smart one.

  • Global warming my azz. Check out the temps nation wide then please explain to me why July 2009 was officially the coldest July on record in six US states. Where was this global warming? By the way that's that's just for July, we broke many records this year for the coldest temps.

  • Amish are cool.

  • did i see, power tools?

  • I see a lot of people picking fun at the Amish but i live in the middle of "Amish country" in PA and they are some of the nicest people i have ever came across. So what if they have "weird" beliefs, to them people that use computers are weird.

  • I live in Mohnton right on Bowmansville rd

  • @punk4life38 Out of all those "weird" people, only one has ever been convicted of murder.

  • @punk4life38 amish can use technology and computers, they just have to make them first

  • Mennonite pride!

  • Well duh!! They would be the experts. How long they been doing this for 200+ years.

  • His Beard Look's So Fake =p

  • Being Amish is a bit pointless.

  • agreed

  • amish dont use electricity, and dont pose for photos. if they do anything like that theyre called examish where theyre not amish anymore.

  • since they don't use computers we can provok them hereee muwahahahah...they won't know..anyone amish online???loooooool but what a cool hands they got... :)

  • Muy bello!!!

  • Thats wonderful.

  • I dream of a world where amish people are not living in cages :'(

  • gftyhbgyrr

  • i thought you were either hardcore amish or not at all amish. how come this guy uses modern tools like circular saws?

  • maybe because his employer wants him to save time and money? It doesn't mean they'll adopt the the technology all together and bring it back home. They simply adapted to the needs of their employer. They wouldn't bring them back home, since they don't use electricity for the most part. Being Amish is more than some rules and garb. It's about tradition, family, values and faith. If they don't lose all those, they're still Amish.

  • Like it.....

  • Amish dudes rule !!!

  • everybody can learn something from these people- work ethics, discipline, building strategies- after all, these constructions made from timber are much more durable, and stronger...

  • i mean, those houses may be expensive to build, but they will sure pay back through time

  • We could all learn a thing or two off these people.

  • you can, they do everything the old way its makes them strong independant people...

  • @fitnessfreak21 ~~Straight to the point~ I like that. TY In Gratitude~~

  • 0:42 these foLks

  • Did the narrator just pronounce the "L" in the word "folks"?

  • is amish a jew??just curious here

  • No.

A comprehensive entry is accessible on Wikipedia.

  • No, not at all. If you called a Jew Amish you'd probably get kicked in the head.

  • I think they're mormon.

  • nooooooooo, amish is different, very different!

  • i love amish their amazing craftmen

  • So basically, don't have fun?

  • I really admire their handiwork. That roof looks sturdy.

  • "Will you go to Heaven?"

A QUICK TEST: Have you ever spammed?

  • Awesome - this gives me hope. Guardians of integrity, like the Amish, will rebuild our communities at a grassroots level - rebuild physically and in all other ways. Wow, amazing.

  • i think amish rocks, i mean it would be such an laid back way of life

  • if your amish u can use power tools

  • They're using POWER TOOLS. How are they Amish?

  • Yeah you have a point, I read they´re not even allowed to use buttons because they are too austentacious, a power tool seems a bit fancier than a button.

  • They did say that in their own communities they would not use power tools. However, they use them when working on a job site where it is pat of the work... in other words, when someone else requires it, they use power tools.

  • They use them when working on a job site where it is pat of the work... in other words, when someone else requires it, they use power tools.

  • ~hey if they are not recruiting pple than they are living the way they want too....giving back the way they know how...

  • how many forests did they moe down to build that one house?

  • Why are you guys filled with so much hate. Can we not respect their lifestyle like they respect ours? I think its wonderful that they've preserved traditions like these. Even more so since they're using it to help people who have lost their homes due to hurricanes.

  • lolwut

  • How do they reproduce if they have to stay within their family ?

  • ............................. XD

  • why did he get -2 points for????

    that's a totally pertinent question...

    o_O

  • amish is so fucking cool. amish paradise ftw!

  • You hate the Amish? But why? They're the nicest people in the world.

  • ELECTRICITY IS EVIL!!!!!!

  • oh god.. i think i'd die if i were amish..

  • The song Amish Paradise by Weird Al sums this up.

  • Amish that are using electric tools??? What is this? Amish are known to hate all of things related to modernity....uhmmm!

  • You think 250 years from now they will actually start using the outdated computers we use now days?

  • lol :)

  • !!1

  • Amish get alot of respect from me..foreal!!

  • Wtf is up with the large amounts of power tools used by these ''amish'' people?

  • love the hats xD

  • they are using power tools. WTF

  • I happen to have a great idea for a TV show, Amish death Match... Amish people forced to fight midgets and Jehova's Witnesses

  • i LOVE it!

  • Amish building principles - that´s blessed righteousness. If Amish people would influence the American society and politics - the rest of the world could go to sleep at night without fear.

  • why americans build their houses always with wood and not with bricks like we hear in europe ?

we have not to worry about every single storm.

  • people do build their homes with bricks. you can't make a generalization like that without basis

  • Why don't Americans build houses out of bricks and cement in Hurricane and Tornado States? Honest question. (not attacking anyone) I mean, I would love to have a wooden house like that but I don't have to worry about Hurricanes and Tornadoes...

  • expense maybe? idk.

  • if they are amish why are they using electric saws.... and im pretty sure that one guy's beard has elastic.

  • amish people make me LOL

  • Amish have been building outside their community for a long time. There are ways around the no electric deal, the young are even allowed to drive a car etc. All we see are the ones that are in the post cards. You have a choice to follow the strict rules placed down, these homes will be solid for a long time, not so sure about the beach that its built on.

  • I guess I'm confused to what Amish really is, i thought they just closed off themselves to the world and used simple tools, and no electricity. But I guess I am quite wrong

  • 0:47 Wow... how ridiculously patriotic can you get?

  • The Amish make the best products! They always have sheds/cabins for sale around here. They are very nice and high quality.

  • THE AMISH RULE!

  • This is sweet an all, but the reality is that the Amish have never built houses to deal with hurricanes. We generally do not use this method as timber is too expensive these days and there isn't enough to go around to build all these houses in this manner.

Despite that, a hurricane can, and for the most part, still will blow a house like that to pieces . The Amish simply have not designed their engineering with hurricanes in mind as they are "farmers," not sea front fishermen.

  • thanks for these info! :p

  • Fake beard.

  • What's the big invention here ? This method is known and has been applied for centuries in Europe. Some homes still bear these structures until nowadays. Of course now Europeans mostly build their homes with brick and concrete. Perhaps that would be more withstanding to severe weather conditions and last even longer (regardless how strong this house is, the window is still the good old weak US standard and the "tar paper" called roof, not to mention that everything can go up in smokes in fire)

  • Aren't the amish supposed to NOT use electricity?

  • i think its jst tvs and cars now

  • Thats kinda stupid...they're changing their history.

  • 'n "building heirlooms" ????

  • w w w. beam . to/ gutercop
