  • can SOMEBODY tell me what he is singing in the 2nd half of the chorus(0:56 mark).."early in the morning,,,,,,,,,,,?????????I am covering this tune and the lyrics are no where to be found online!

  • "Tighter than a clenched fist"...

  • how this video can have 6 unlike?

  • Then greatest soul band that ever took the stage - and they're still doing it 43 years later!

  • Most of these guys are playing syncronized 16th. notes.....amazing....

  • TOP is the definition of "RHYTHM"

  • TOP isn't commercial enough for the RR HOF . They are in a class all thier own. Over 40 yrs in the business and they continue to record new material. New album coming out later this year. Simply Amazing !

  • 6 average white band fans dis this???

  • CAN YOU BELIEVE THESE GUYS ARE NOT EVEN CONSIDERED TO BE IN THE ROCK-N-ROLL HALL OF FAME. CAN YOU FIGURE WITH MUSIC LIKE THIS CONSIDERING SOME OF THE GROUPS THAT HAVE BEEN INDUCTED? I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO GET THESE GUYS INDUCTED??? CONSIDERED THEY HAVE HELP MANY THAT HAVE BEEN INDUCTED ON SOME OF THEIR RECOREDS...

  • @SoulSurvivin There is no excuse for overlooking this band any longer! Perhaps it's time to start a petition on the 'Net to get the R&R HOF attention. There are plenty others who share the walls of that building that take a back seat to this group; it's time they got sum R.E.S.P.E.C.T.!

  • All I can say is, "Where's the fire truck"! This ain't smoldering, it's blazing hot! Full alarm chile, yes it is!

  • I love the sound of the drums on this video. I have and play the David Garibaldi signature snare drum. The tuning is so great! This is a particularly upbeat and spirited version of this tune. That cat on guitar reminds me of Dennis Miller with that beret on.

  • Tower, anytime, anyday, we still be diggin on Tower!

  • This the tightest version I have ever heard. They were flying!!!!!

  • Funky Funkyness at its best!

  • what song is this? I've never heard it befoe! Is it new?

  • @anitalenor I didn't either @ 1st...It's been speeded up.!

  • top is badd badd badd badd badd badd badd badd badd badd badd badd badd badd you get the idea and yes in my book there the best ever and ever ever and ever.

  • yeeeeaaaah. Grooooov, groovy.

Larry Braggs ruuules! Funkiest shit ive ever seeeen!

  • very good

  • What a groove! It grooves like a moose. 8) I love those drum-, bass- and guitarlines. But whole band works together so the result is wonderful groove and funky music. Amazing!

  • Stop it, I can't take it. This is one of the best bands from back in the day. There funk/soulful sound was second to none. They rate up there with groups like Brass Construction, ConFunkon, and all the group with a brass section. Boy I miss hearing bands like this today.

  • I just listened to some Brass Construction and they don't come anywhere close to TOP. They get on one riff and play it endlessly. Now TOP has some great arrangements

Now admittedly, this opinion is based solely on listening to 2 Brass Construction tunes on YT, but they're seem like a boring disco band to me....and I hated disco when it came out. Sell-out music.

TOP is Soul, with a capital S!

  • No :-)

    See ... at "Flickr(.)com ... maurice flower:

    "Tower of Power in concert"

  • THIS is what i call MUSIC!!!

  • I agree, Music played by real people is still the best music

  • "Soul with a capital S" - that's the best!!! No band is better live!!!

  • that tune is my absolute favourite of all genres, that and "Just make a move" from `Back in the streets´ from -79 or -80.

If you ever hear that one, listen to the bass and the hammond creating a wonderful beat.

  • i know. put this on the main stream and kids today think its brocoli

  • @p3psim4n these guys are the best i listen too them wayyyy back in the late 65 thur 70s they were the best then and now

  • This video is Good! h

However it needs to be synced!

  • And I'm sooo glad David Garibaldi returned. This is one of the very best rhythm sections ever, in my opinion. Total F-ing Badasses.

  • You´re damn right!!!

  • GOD I love these guys! I have grown up with their music. I remember them on Soul Train years ago. I hope they live on for a very long time.

  • Rocco Prestia is a close friend of mine, as well as Bruce Conte who is currently living in Cebu, Philippines. T.O.P. just celebrated their 40th Anniversary two months ago and had a Concert at the Filmore West in SF with all the past members/Singers that ever played with them in the past 40 years! Rocco's been playing with TOP since he was 14 years old---that's over 40 years! They're still touring the US & Europe today! He's SO cool, humble and mellow! He's one of the "coolest" person I know!

  • Wow!!!

See them in my account on Flickr!!

I am also "maurice flower" there!

  • Rocco is my second cousin. No lie bro.

  • OAKLAND IN THE HOUSE...

  • These cats are the sultans of cool.

They make it look easy don't they.

That's 40 years of playing together

and making very hip music so tight you

can bounce a quarter on them. Snap shit stuff.

  • real funky

  • Good lord this is like 50× funkier than the record. That rhodes player is drivin me crazy!

  • Haha i hear ya!

  • Whoa I didn't know ToP performed any of their songs of the new album live. Both times I saw em they stuck to the classics.

This groove is so funky with the guitar and the rhodes, it sounds a lot like their style in the 70s with Chester Thompson and Bruce Conte.

  • has their new album come out yet?

  • I was talking about Oakland Zone from 2003. Are they working on a new one already?

  • Yeah it's supposed to come out Jan. 2009

  • I love TOP, it's some groovy music!

  • I wonder if I'm related to Doc... we have the same rare last name "kupka." My drum instructor told me about T.o.p. after he heard my last name.

  • lol your drum teacher better have told you about ToP! David Garibaldi is the founding father of funk drumming.

  • They're all great. Rocco is Da Man. Always in the background, almost excusing himself, but puttin' that line down solid.

  • Big ol' bag of tricks!

  • Tighter than a Tokyo train at rush hour!!

If you've got more from this gig, post it goddammit!!

    The sound quality/visual is excellent!!

  • This whole night was videotaped via the people from OrMusic, who Tower was signed with at the time. For whatever reason, TOP fans on their message board were just about beggin' for the rest of the night to be released on DVD or whatever, but it never happened. Damn shame, too...

    "Peace And Luv."...

    Dennis...

  • Yeah....these guys are still great , and I like this keyboard player . All of the guys since Chester were very weak by comparison...but this guy is slammin' !

  • They are still hot.

  • Dear "Uhrfisceiner...

...After reading your post in this thread which is SUPPOSED to be about the Tower Of Power, I can only come to one very simple and academic conclusion and relay that conclusion to you in nothing but the most forthright and possible way. You're a freakin' idiot, you asswipe!!...

    "Peace And Luv."...

  • IM LOOKING FOR

    I COULDVE DONE IT BETTER

  • no one even comes close to the tower of power...this is airtight

  • I was in the audience the night this was shot at The Village Underground in NYC. The vibe was serious! If ya'll don't already know, there's The Tower Of Power, then there's everyone else...

  • Oh Yeah I can feel the grease oozing out of my headphones, the Funky Doctor is the best!

  • Cool Bag Of Rhythm - Right On - WorldwidewelcomE - VIKING

  • luv it

  • Good god! They're funkier than a bow legged monkey!

  • Mercy!!

  • Tighter than a clenched fist

  • tremendous, I just got turned onto this band by a friend who tuned in his ipod to my radio as I drove home last night, I dint know it got this funky!

  • gee how funky^^

oh oh year give ne your love ;-)

  • Garibaldi playing is so great. Best band absolutely!

  • oh dear what are you talking about? cant you see most of the band are white? colour simply makes no difference!

  • YES! I saw Gribaldi in clinic yesterday...what a guy! the whole band is just too tight!!!!

  • Agreed. Funk comes in all colours.

  • doc is the coolest...i so much like power better when they get an african american front man...white guys just cant do justice to funk/soul

  • Rocco Prestia and Dave Garibaldi are the gods of funk!!! Often imitated- but never duplicated!!! So good to see and hear them back together with T.O.P. tight as ever! Every aspect of this performance is of the highest caliber! Congratulations Emilio Castillo for keeping the funk going strong all these years! Please- let's hear more!
