nahh, its because he didn't have the true temperament fret boards when this was filmed. (i think) it was filmed like 2-3 years ago (2 i think), and only recently has he got them. summit like that. (just a theory anyway :D)

Naa,EVO has a new neck with true temperamented frets and has been converted to a studio guitar now. Though we wont see it on tour anymore we havent heard the last of EVO,lol.

I'm sorry -- I LOVE Vai at his best -- but he REPEATS HIMSELF too much.

(That's why I loved his "Flexible" cd best. Lotta variety and surprises!)

And TOO MANY CLICHES in most of his stuff.

(My fave guitarists are still Fred Frith and Steve Howe. Super-creative and diverse!)

If i had to guess, I would say you listened to "For the love of god", if it's not then I think that will be your new favorite. This is Steve Vai as I remember him. I love this song. A lot of his old stuff was almost pure music perfection. It was as though he expressed his soul through his guitar. I don't feel that way at all with a lot of his newer stuff.
