  • at least the mom is willing to listen and not just jumps to (insulting!) conclusions....

  • The boom mic being seen is intentional. it is the character ELiza's boom mic because she is there making her documentary, as we find out a couple of minutes later. You are meant to think it is a "Family" production error, but then realize that in fact it is part of the story of Eliza being in the room, which is revealed at the end.

    Terisa Greenan

  • I can't believe I noticed this, but about 4:43 the boom mike is just visible for a second.

  • Was a bit "ho-hum" about this epsiode until the speech at the end. I think the father was overplayed a little bit so didn't quite gel as a real (even for sitcom)character. But agree with others - speech at end is great. . .. wesmile at the neighbour but "all we want is to be able to live our lives in peace"

  • I do agree the father is overblown but it's also a great way to introduce some of the more ridiculous fears that non-polyamorous people have.

Kinda reminded me of a ridiculous Seinfeld ;)

  • i heard about polyamory and the basic idea of it n how it works i guess but even though im not polyamorous i like that this show gives a little more insight to what its like 4 them....really interesting

  • wow, that dad is a serious fucktard :(

  • A pre-release party for the Family DVD is being held during Polycamp 2009 on Friday night, August 28. Check out polycampDOTorg under the EVENTS link for details.

  • First of all, whoabama, you've got too much time on your hands and you're just mean.

Second, Ben's speech made me tear up. That was just so sweet. I am loving this show. Just discovered it today and I'm watching all the episodes while I should be working.

  • Thankfully after a few phone calls, Ms. Greenan will no longer be able to find employment with Value Village as a model. I don't think they were aware of her depraved lifestyle! LOL

  • Don't worry. Like "The Guild", I see this series being picked up and getting some nice attention.

  • However anyone may perceive stereotypical protrayals, this presentation is from and to very many hearts. Few families toe The Line in reality. My own story outlines layers of "acceptance" yet also NOT (acceptance).

Thank you for finding (for me) a thoughtful balance between entertainment and intellectual/spiritual provocation.

  • So whe is the next one coming out. :-)

    I can't wait. :-)

  • The great thing is, in my view, to use the sit-com language to talk about a triad. You can discuss a lot about technique, and more or less failed nuages (e.g. the father is frankly exaggerated caricature). But a big, BIG HURRAH for you that do this.

If "queer as folks" has becomed an international success, why not a "pro" version of this one? I can imagine Nip and Tuck's equipe around you, and it will be seen all the world around, for sure.

  • You actually continued a plot, hooray!!!! Awesome, btw. (Then again, the whole show has been awesome.) Keep it up!

  • I'm afraid I don't agree that the father is a Jewish caricature. I am Armenian and the father's over-the-top portrayal could also be a perfect stereotype of an Armenian father. Or a Greek one, from my experience. I think there are lots of people who could find someone in their life like that character. I am thinking archetype rather than stereotype!

I love this show. Thanks for your work.

  • Of course I'll keep watching *smile*. As I wrote, I absolutely LOVE the series (and am Jewish/poly myself). However, sometimes what happens is unintended consequences. I understand that you didn't perceive the character this way, however, you have the benefit (or the "blind side") of being involved in the writing, so you know what you intended, which is not what is always perceived by others.

I look forward to new episodes!

    Jerry

  • This show just gets better and better. Thank you. :-)

  • "do you see anyone running around naked?"

    LOL

Everyone who comes out to a family member who is not open-minded does have a task at hand.

    Thank you for this episode.

    xo

  • That's frickin awesome! I really love this series!

  • Big Applause and thumbs up!

Very nicely well written, love it.

Best so far, please keep it up.

  • I love this show, but I'm pretty disappointed in the performance/writing of Ben's father - he's such a caricature Jew that it borders on antisemitic.

Nevertheless, I'm excited to see where it goes!

  • I could not agree more. I absolutely LOVE this series, it's got so many positive qualities, both content and production. But I have to agree with dlhoration that the way that Ben's father is portrayed here is extremely dissapointing and comes across as nearly an anti-semetic craicature, even if that is not the intended affect.

  • great episode, but I'm kinda bummed that it was implied that Stuart and Ben aren't involved intimately

  • This is my favorite episode by far!

  • This is the best episode ever! Just WOW!

  • YES It is here!!!!

  • I laughed at the mic at 4:44 and the twist at the end was great.

  • Wow just wow.

  • wow, i didn't think ben had it in him! great job!

  • Best episode yet.

  • Thanks for making this great show, everyone. I'm really loving it. It warms my heart to see such a positive image in the middle of dealing with "straight" people that populate my life.
