Putting a few tracking shots one or two frames out of phase is probably not what LucasFilm is looking for. Like the Pulfrich effect, this is not "3D", and doesn't work at all in static scenes -- or where foreground and background elements are moving in opposite directions.

If you've got some clever ideas for auto-modeling, surface mapping, texture generation, scene-tracking, or complex-object recognition algorithms, you might have a future there.

@ianabruce These clips were converted to 3D using Animated Depth Maps that I built in AE, not the Pilfrich method.. I have other movies on my channel that DO use Pilfrich if you'd like to view them.

Granted, these could use more depth, but it was just something I threw together back when the 3D versions were announced by Lucas.

Umm Power DVD and a halfway decent Nvidia card makes any movie 3-D.. I've already made 3-D copies of all 6 and watched them upstairs in my home theater.. is he really getting a team together to do the same thing?

A nice unofficial teaser to the 3D movies which are coming to theatre, since this can be seen with simple red/green glasses which I found home. I enjoyed it, especially the SW title and the underwater scene. You clearly have passion in 3D moviemaking, so I hope you realized your dream to get involved or anyway best wishes to be involved in the future movies.

everyone here is wrong..the clip is 3D but you need a 3D TV or mpnitor...its makes the image 3D by putting together the 2 images on Side by Side view

You don't actually need any 3D device. Just change the 3D settings to "Side-by-side" and "Full-width" and cross your eyes and try to focus on the center image and it will appear in 3D.

Well, I'm still trying to decide whether or not to watch the OT at the very least, since the last time I actually saw them in theater I must've been like 3 or 4 years old. Would love to see these in 3D, much more exciting than just HD, but if it doesn't have realistic depth and everything looks like it on a set rather than properly spread out and huge like it would it real life (and PC games), then i'd have my doubts about it looking good. We'll see....

I am not a fan of star wars, it just isn't my thing, but I am a huge fan of 3D. A 2D to 3D conversion is nowhere near as good as a movie shot in 3D. Even for videos that have lots of visual effects, if the 3D motion tracking takes place on stereo cameras, even the CGI comes out better in 3D in my opinion.

I enjoyed the original special edition but not the changes on the dvd's and I certainly think that Lucas was fine when he changed the original trilogy the first time because it was stuff that he was not able to include in the films that he wanted in the films when they were first produced because the technology did not exist in the 1970's but he did ticked me off when I saw that he changed them again for the dvd release and changed episode 1 and now he is changing them again WTF

I like the idea of movies in 3d when they are shot in 3d with a stereoscopic camera such as Avatar, but not the 2d to 3d conversions. The only acceptable conversions are the animated movies such as Pixar's Toy Story, which can be made 3d by rendering the second viewpoint. For Star Wars the digital effects can be done in 3d okay, but whenever you have live actors 2d to 3d conversions seem to fall short. I have a 3DTV & a few 3d blu-rays including Soccer and the Space station, and they look great.
