let`s see, SSC=basically a small garage company that made a living on building replica kits, developed and built their first proprietary car that meets all safety regulations and qualified for production car status. using proven and reliable hardware in the process, a smaller engine, half the turbos on a rear wheel drive setup, yet it makes more power and outaccelerates the veyron in EVERY category except for 0-60, i say give credit where it is due at least, and here it clearly is!

@mattschmit1 But defenition of faster can be argued too... 300bhp lotus (tuned up from 260 version) or maybe even turbocharged will be faster on the track (ie Silverstone) than SSC... in same way like my tuned 200bhp 182 with me and car weighting just below 900kg, overtakes 300-400bhp powered Evos and Subarus. Of course on the straight thats a totaly different playground

Bugatti sold all their 300 cars and arent going for more records. As for SSC... Well they manage to sell around 10-12 of their homebuilt kit car. It remains to be seen if they will actually build another one. Even if they do.. Its still a single purpose monstrosity. The Veyron isnt fantastic because its ultra fast and got 1000 hp. You can do that in a damn Mustang. So what. The Veyron is our generations Lambo Miura. Ferrari F40, Mclaren F1 or Enzo. A true benchmark for engineering.

Yeah.. As in stuff that exsists only on paper. Which in this case means ONE Aero went fast in 2007. With a full tech crew standing by under perfect conditions. That doesnt mean they can all do that. Infact its HIGHLY likely that only THAT particular SSC was able to do it under THOSE particular conditions.
Whereas ALL Bugattis and Koenigseggs can do what they claim as proven by James May when he took a completly random Veyron and achieved the electronically limited 253 mph effortlessly
Also its worth noting that the Bugatti is LIMITED to its top speed by laws and restrictions. Every part has to be certified for its speed and the manufacturer didnt certify its tyres to go any faster. Even when they had special tyres made for it.
Now compare that to the SSC Aero which is based on a Lamborghini "inspired" replica kit and hasnt had the budget to do any of that. Instead they lifted most of its parts out of other, already exsisting cars. None of it certified for these speeds.

Try taking a closer look at the Malibu and ZR1, it's not the same (so what if it was) steering wheel. Combined with your highly detailed quote of 3-400 sold I can only assume your mostly guessing. A heavy quad turbo 16 cyl engine is pretty much brute force btw. As far as Veyron sales #'s, sure its a great car but look at how many folks buy crap like gold plated iphones.

You have a beef with the Corvette because GM used materials in the unimportant areas to keep the costs below Porsche levels. At least the Porsches that have a chance at keeping up with it. @Janusha Where did I suggest they were the same people? My talk of costs was primarily aimed at the amount of money poured into the Veyron to design/build it. Enough money will send a car into space... America has built plenty of quality cars. What you don't seem to understand is that cost doesn't = quality. A car doesn't have to be trimmed with real wood or completely swathed in leather to be a quality car. But you live in your own little world and will only see what you want.
2.5 miles is an excuse. Ehra Leissen straight is only 3 miles (~5km). Veyron started at 120 mph (200 km) while SSC started at 220 mph (350 km/h). That is 100 mph difference meaning an complete embarrassment on SSC side: it can't go faster even with 12 miles long straight road. With that data, Veryon accelerated much faster than UA despite its limited top speed, weight, comfort, luxury it is not funny. Now, ask yourself what is the braking distance of SSC UA.
Koenigsegg did 250 mph with 806 hp. The Bugatti did it with 1000 hp. The SSC did it with 1250 hp. 50% more hp than the Koenigsegg. The Koenigsegg also did it on a circular track. Not in a straight line.
However... The SSCs record run is bullshit. they only made ONE car go fast. There is no reason to believe all the 10-12 SSCs are able to replicate that run while every Bugatti, Koenigsegg can do their stuff. Its just a glorified single purpose kit-car with a big engine.
Veyron Super Sport set the record at 267.86 mph on 26th 2010, the year before Veyron had it and the year before that.. I'm not knocking the SSC, I think its an awesome car and shows what Americans can do. I just find it funny you see no videos backing up its top speed, infact all you ever see is little clips like this, which makes one wonder is it really capable of doing 273mph ?
273 is a wild claim. Nothing more. Also you gotto remember that they only sold around 10-12 of the SSC cars. Even with a wooorld record to their name. Nobody has ever been able to road test or properly review a single one of these SSC cars. Since they did the record run in 2007 nobody has seen it perform or seen them do anything else. @Janusha Nah, the 273 number comes from wind tunnel testing. That's the maximum speed at which the body can withstand before the wheels go all wobbly or panels start flying off. It's not at all the number involved with it's maximum speed, but that's where folks keep saying that it can go (they are rather confused about this).

There's no official standard for going the track unless it's in a sanctioned race, so anyone can go around the damn thing and post a time, and everyone will take it as fact. Some people claim times during 'tourist days' where racing isn't allowed, and others claim a time when they've rented the track (and no one else is on). It's not, and never has been, an appropriate benchmark for cars.

Jay Leno talks about the lack of criticism in US-cars. In relation to the fact that they have tried and failed 6 years in a row to establish TopGear in USA. He said the big3 advertise in all medias. Magazines and networks. Anyone talking shi... I mean being honest about american cars on live television would be followed by "the talk" and the car show being cancelled for fear of losing millions of advertisement dollars and even lawsuits from that company. So they focus on the positive.
This thing is however not made by the big3. Now.. There is a reason why we all love Top Gear. They approach even the most exotic supercars with a down to earth attitude and feel at home with them. When inexperienced journalists (like this dude) get a hold of a supercar they easily get overwhelmed and are unable to stay professional. In USA they are often lent out on the condition that they do a favourable review. Also... USA is the country where everything and everyone is "BEST IN THE WOOORLD"

Probably one of the most the unimaginative supercars I've ever seen. It looks cartoonish, or like it was thrown together in a couple months. Don't get me wrong, they did break a record, so props, but personally I don't care about a few extra miles an hour at the max speed. As far as price goes, the veyron is a lot more because it's extremely well engineered, while this is just kit car quality with a powerful engine. Rightly so.. Amongst all the hype, any real info is hard to come by Ive discovered that they used to build Lambo Diablo replica kits and amazingly based this SSC Aero on that very same kit. Which is why its got all the proportions of a 90s Diablo except its good looks. In recent TopGear the builder calls it a kit-car and says its built in a shed behind his house. That doesnt prevent them from comparing it to a Bugatti and claiming best in the world. They sold less than 10 cars in USA since 2007.
As for its speed.. Well nobody has ever seen it perform since its record run in 2007 so its very likely only THAT particular one is able to replicate that top speed under those particular circumstances. Also... In the competetive supercar market of today there is no way this thing has had the budget for technology, styling or build quality. Which is the reason its never really been road tested. They prefer it like it is now. Carried by the hype and hopes of the flagwaving masses.

The SSC is a pure driver's car, without wheel assisted nonsense, a jack for your cellphone, a few extra useless knobs or even a lot of power steering. It does have navigation, air conditioning and a nice stereo, though! The Pig-Ron was built for clueless, rich Arabs who fly it to a test track and do laps out in the desert.
@bonbon103 To call the SCC striped down would be an over statement. It has many standard comodities like ac, all your dials, radio and satelite navigation. Both the Bugatti and the SCC only have two seats, and seeing how I haven't driven either I'll go by what I hear and say that they both drive smoothly. But I will say that the SSC has no ABS or ESP and was designed to be a pure driving experience much like the McLaren F1. So I hope the bugatti is atleast a little bit better on the road.
You are mistaken on just a few counts. This car is almost 7 ft wide, there is so much down force on it already it doesn't need the spoiler. It's also lighter than the bugatti so if you're talking corners I'd put my money on the aero. Also, Bugatti doesn't make enough for the whole world. They make on average around 100 a year. Finally, if either of these is a "dumb powercar" it's the veyron, it gets all its power from an overized engine. W16 vs. V8...

Look we have awesome cars out there and the truth is they both kick ass. Let me tell all of you whats going the new Areo is going to more then likely set the new top speed record. The Bugatti will put out another Veryon and it will take the record.and this loop will just keep going until global regs make them stop. I love both cars. If i had the money i would buy both. In my opinion the bigger engineering achievement is the SSC. The Veyron has that massive W16 engine with 4 turbochargers while the SSC is running on a V8 twin turbo and it beat the veyron. The new Veyron SS with its extra 200 horsepower only beat the SSC by 2 mph. The Veyron may be faster, but it will never beat the SSC in my book.

Bugatti sold all their 300 cars and arent going for more records. As for SSC... Well they manage to sell around 10-12 of their homebuilt kit car. It remains to be seen if they will actually build another one. Even if they do.. Its still a single purpose monstrosity. The Veyron isnt fantastic because its ultra fast and got 1000 hp. You can do that in a damn Mustang. So what. The Veyron is our generations Lambo Miura. Ferrari F40, Mclaren F1 or Enzo. A true benchmark for engineering.

Infact its HIGHLY likely that only THAT particular SSC was able to do it under THOSE particular conditions.

Also its worth noting that the Bugatti is LIMITED to its top speed by laws and restrictions. Every part has to be certified for its speed and the manufacturer didnt certify its tyres to go any faster. Even when they had special tyres made for it.
Now compare that to the SSC Aero which is based on a Lamborghini "inspired" replica kit and hasnt had the budget to do any of that. Instead they lifted most of its parts out of other, already exsisting cars. None of it certified for these speeds.

However it is also simply an example of what can be done when you throw enough money at something. The thing costs a ridiculous amount of money and is from a company that has died more times than Dracula. Still Bugatti has pedigree and I'd proudly own one. Try taking a closer look at the Malibu and ZR1, it's not the same (so what if it was) steering wheel. Combined with your highly detailed quote of 3-400 sold I can only assume your mostly guessing. A heavy quad turbo 16 cyl engine is pretty much brute force btw. As far as Veyron sales #'s, sure its a great car but look at how many folks buy crap like gold plated iphones.

2.5 miles is an excuse. Ehra Leissen straight is only 3 miles (~5km). Veyron started at 120 mph (200 km) while SSC started at 220 mph (350 km/h). That is 100 mph difference meaning an complete embarrassment on SSC side: it can't go faster even with 12 miles long straight road. With that data, Veryon accelerated much faster than UA despite its limited top speed, weight, comfort, luxury it is not funny. Now, ask yourself what is the braking distance of SSC UA.

Koenigsegg did 250 mph with 806 hp. The Bugatti did it with 1000 hp. The SSC did it with 1250 hp. 50% more hp than the Koenigsegg. The Koenigsegg also did it on a circular track. Not in a straight line.
However... The SSCs record run is bullshit. they only made ONE car go fast. There is no reason to believe all the 10-12 SSCs are able to replicate that run while every Bugatti, Koenigsegg can do their stuff. Its just a glorified single purpose kit-car with a big engine.

I'm not knocking the SSC, I think its an awesome car and shows what Americans can do. Nobody has ever been able to road test or properly review a single one of these SSC cars. Since they did the record run in 2007 nobody has seen it perform or seen them do anything else. So its very likely only THAT car on THAT particular day was ever able to pull off that speed. Whereas all 300 Veyrons and Koenigseggs can do their stuff any day.

It's not at all the number involved with it's maximum speed, but that's where folks keep saying that it can go (they are rather confused about this).

There's no official standard for going the track unless it's in a sanctioned race, so anyone can go around the damn thing and post a time, and everyone will take it as fact. Some people claim times during 'tourist days' where racing isn't allowed, and others claim a time when they've rented the track (and no one else is on). It's not, and never has been, an appropriate benchmark for cars.

Probably one of the most the unimaginative supercars I've ever seen. It looks cartoonish, or like it was thrown together in a couple months. Don't get me wrong, they did break a record, so props, but personally I don't care about a few extra miles an hour at the max speed. As far as price goes, the veyron is a lot more because it's extremely well engineered, while this is just kit car quality with a powerful engine. Rightly so.. Amongst all the hype, any real info is hard to come by Ive discovered that they used to build Lambo Diablo replica kits and amazingly based this SSC Aero on that very same kit. Which is why its got all the proportions of a 90s Diablo except its good looks. In recent TopGear the builder calls it a kit-car and says its built in a shed behind his house. That doesnt prevent them from comparing it to a Bugatti and claiming best in the world. They sold less than 10 cars in USA since 2007.

@Janusha actually ssc aero is a very ugly car. the style is really out dated. okay fine it has speed and everything but from inside out its very outdated. like when you look at it you might confuse it with some other car. the style doesnt really have any originality and its not to much to look at. in fact it looks very poorly constructed. if im paying 900000 bucks i want sum thing that stands out more in the crowd.

Its ugly because its based on a Lamborghini Diablo replica kit. So its got all the proportions of a 90s Diablo except its good looks. Even the up-swinging doors. They havent hired a designer. Its pretty much homebuilt.

its probably not going to be as good as the bugatti veyron though, cos americans don't know how to make a proper car the has proper handling, sure it looks good and has 3mph more than bugatti v. but ill see what clarkson thinks of it first.

Oh yeah, did you know SSC IS a kit car company that manufactures replicars like the Lamborghini Diablo, Ferrari F355, and so forth? Yeah... that's why there's a C5R engine remodified for the Aero, with a Dodge Viper transmission, and tadaaa, a Diablo replica chassis on it. o.o

This car looks way more worth the money, if im going to spend hundreds of thousands I at least want it to look like a supercar, the Veyron does not, and it's nearly 2 million, the SS model. I would rather have a twin turbo Ford GT than a Veyron. Way easier to find parts AND they're cheaper.

Which would one rather buy. An ssc, very fast car which costs half a mil and looks sleek and amazing, or veyron, a bit faster car that costs a million bucks, looks like a bulky seat cupra. I'd have to pick the ssc.

The SSC is a pure driver's car, without wheel assisted nonsense, a jack for your cellphone, a few extra useless knobs or even a lot of power steering. It does have navigation, air conditioning and a nice stereo, though! The Pig-Ron was built for clueless, rich Arabs who fly it to a test track and do laps out in the desert.

@bonbon103 To call the SCC striped down would be an over statement. It has many standard comodities like ac, all your dials, radio and satelite navigation. Both the Bugatti and the SCC only have two seats, and seeing how I haven't driven either I'll go by what I hear and say that they both drive smoothly. But I will say that the SSC has no ABS or ESP and was designed to be a pure driving experience much like the McLaren F1. So I hope the bugatti is atleast a little bit better on the road.

You are mistaken on just a few counts. This car is almost 7 ft wide, there is so much down force on it already it doesn't need the spoiler. It's also lighter than the bugatti so if you're talking corners I'd put my money on the aero. Also, Bugatti doesn't make enough for the whole world. They make on average around 100 a year. Finally, if either of these is a "dumb powercar" it's the veyron, it gets all its power from an overized engine. W16 vs. V8...

The W16 is definitely going to be smoother because of it's power pulses, but it adds weight, adds complexity and adds cost.

Look we have awesome cars out there and the truth is they both kick ass. Let me tell all of you whats going the new Areo is going to more then likely set the new top speed record. The Bugatti will put out another Veryon and it will take the record.and this loop will just keep going until global regs make them stop. I love both cars. If i had the money i would buy both. Cant we just sit back as car guys and gals and be amazed at what these two companies are doing.

the thing is, this thing is built in america where there are no corners (there for they dind't add a rear spoiler, which will spin the car out of control when you go high speed cornering)
bugatti will always be further then those "in some garage" making car shop.. how much they made anyway? like 50?.. bugatti makes enough for the whole world!

In my opinion the bigger engineering achievement is the SSC. The Veyron has that massive W16 engine with 4 turbochargers while the SSC is running on a V8 twin turbo and it beat the veyron. The new Veyron SS with its extra 200 horsepower only beat the SSC by 2 mph. The Veyron may be faster, but it will never beat the SSC in my book.
-ps. The SSC looks better too ;D
