My thoughts about vlogs and the partnership program. This style of vlog, unpolished and basic, is nice. I think a mix of both plain and polished is best anyway. In my view, YouTube should pay you for whatever works, it matters not what effort you applied. I subscribed because I liked your creativity and the way you communicate your thoughts. Some vids were complex and full of wow, others were fun and simple. This vid is a refreshing return to communication, and I'm glad you're still vlogging.
So I uploaded a response video. The usefulness of said video is questionable, but I started it thinking I'd be able to say what I wanted to say more quickly than writing in comments. After 10 takes and incoherent blatherings due to sleep deprivation, it at least says what I think.

EMI would just rerelease music videos (under their account) that were deleted wholesale this year in the rush to eradicate music videos from YouTube via Viacom. I don't believe this would allow you to use EMI music in your videos whatsoever. Damn internet connection is so slow today, it must be because of Paris Hilton mania. Yeah, three stikes...it sucks. So what is Fair Use nowadays? You just use 30 seconds or less of a song and it's OK?
Kinda like the staring law? Look at someone too long and they call the cops? Well, with YouTube, we can stare at you for an entire 8 minutes without a 911 call against us. :)

I had about a dozen videos with copywritten material. And then one day they were just all gone. And I wasn't banned or suspended, and I didn't really have a clue what happened to them. Then a few months later I got emails from YouTube that they had been removed due to copywrite infringment. So just wait a few months for your notice maybe. :) The hair is awesome by the way.

About the partner program I guess it's better you than some others. BUT, you are now a YT corporate servant as this video shows, your creativity is confined within corporte limits. I don't suppose this really worries you too much, because you're not about stretching boundaries, your work is safe. You like mainstream stuff and that's what comes through in your work. Btw did you design that Olympic logo. It looks like one of blob paintings.

I fully agree with you about the record company deals - we need to know what it means for us, the YouTuber - can we use music from those companies, are they "ok" with YTers being creative with their artists content, or is it still big bad and illegal with no question at all. It stunts creativity to not be able to use music. That's a shame. 'sigh' I wish these record companies could just look at it as free promotion for their songs.

Unfortunately it's literally impossible to get copyright for major-label music.

I think I spoke to soon. It's not abundantly clear what, if anything, you can do based on some things I just read. If you're a partner, ask for a legal opinion from YouTube's General Counsel on what you can and cannot do. Oh, the hair looks fine. You could be perfectly tan if you just stayed in America. Don't you know we don't kick foreigners out of our country, Visa or no Visa, and even if their criminals.

I think that the anal rententive protectionism of the recording industry will eventually be proved to be counter-productive. People like us, who use snippets of copyrighted works in our amateur videos should be seen as publicity for the artists, etc., not thieves.

and while you may feel weird vlogging or youtubing or whatever again, we still love your vids. and i think putting your 'crap' (unedited, none of it is really crap) stuff on the xplx channel and the good (lots of work / time put into it) on the paperlilies channel is a great idea!

About the partner program I guess it's better you than some others. BUT, you are now a YT corporate servant as this video shows, your creativity is confined within corporte limits. I don't suppose this really worries you too much, because you're not about stretching boundaries, your work is safe. You like mainstream stuff and that's what comes through in your work. Btw did you design that Olympic logo. It looks like one of blob paintings.

Sorry tho hear you feel you cant make the videos you want, that is sort of the point of Youtube isn't it. I fully agree with you about the record company deals - we need to know what it means for us, the YouTuber - can we use music from those companies, are they "ok" with YTers being creative with their artists content, or is it still big bad and illegal with no question at all. YouTube clearly put the PR announcement out to the media, but not to the users :(

First off, your hair looks great. I think yt should have to give its partners an agreement paper that spells everything out. I can't believe they aren't doing that. I guess we all know yt is pretty slow in responding when it comes to their users. If at all. I can understand the pressure you feel with your reg channel. i hate to tell ya...even dying over the red with super dark colors....you brass out anyway. even when you've used the ashiest of browns. as i understand, a salon can used some sort of green or blue hue oriented chemical to tone down the reds and what have you....*sigh* but i will say that the brown looks beautiful. I sincerely hope you have better luck than I in maintaining it.

Yeah, I think its ridiculous that we have copyrights anyways. Yeah I can see their purpose, but I don't think its right they should go around rubbing it in people's faces that they own the music.

It stunts creativity to not be able to use music. That's a shame. I know that they were implementing a feature where you could add music to your videos right on youtube from a list of songs that they have gotten permission for so maybe this is a part of that. It's an okay idea, but it's not flexible as far as making a music video and trying to synch up the song to your film. 'sigh' I wish these record companies could just look at it as free promotion for their songs.

I think it's fine to have a shiny channel which is concerned with "content" and "community" and basically gives a shit, and another which is more for you and doesn't have to care so much. Each has its place.
