But in a way koko is a martyr to science and animal understanding. shes unknowingly sacrificing herself for the betterment of her species from a humans perspective and to give us a greater understanding of primates.

It's a lot harder to cut down a forest or treat a animal wrongly when you see it swaddling a kitten and signing words.

@maidmoira I know where your coming from about animals being free and all, but Gorillas are endangered and if you send them to the jungles they would only be hunt and killed by hunters. Koko was born in captivity and she was ill when she was born. They couldn't just send her off like that. Besides, Koko wouldn't adapt to the wild because she spent all of her life in captivity.

I heard a long time ago that the first kitten was killed by a car...so they replaced the kitten and Koko at first did not want the new kitten, until later he accepted the other kitten. I like this video, but it's sad how they didn't let him out in the wild were he belonged. :(

I love the things she's taught us, and how much we can learn from her and others like her, and I hope one day that we can finally be able to save her "people" from the horrible things we've done to them through the awareness raised through her education.
